It is sci-fi. 

And fantasy!

And poorly written and often self-contradictory at that.  And yet we spend countless hours debating whether things are "by the books" or not. 

So what does that say about us?        

I have actually found few if any contradictions in the books once you look at context rather than simply a single quote but that's another topic.
