A Thousand Different Women and Always Just Myself

« 08. January 2012, 08:33:23 »
I have heard that there are some Gorean SIMS that are converting from The World of Gor to Age of Conan, replacing the literature of John Norman with Robert E. Howard. Upon further scrutiny both Gor and Age of Conan have their similarities but are also vastly different.

From my understanding Conan promotes the concepts of warrior woman who fight alongside men. Women are recognised fighters and carry weapons.
Conan promotes magic, sorcery, wizards and mages etc. Conan has slaves and promotes submissive woman and dominant men.

Are these additional elements that don’t exist in Gor enticing to role-players and is there a market developing for this type of game experience on Second Life? What are your thoughts about an Age of Conan RP experience and are there any people who are interested in this change?

Well, they're both pulp fiction, but Conan apparently is more popular.  The Howard books are still in print with conventional publishers, and there are games and new authors writing Conan stories, whereas Norman's books are currently only available via a POD publisher.  Gor, though, probably has a greater cult following.  I've never heard of Hyborian lifestylers.

I think that any sims going to age of conan and using that label instead of Gor  is a wonderful answer to what some folks want out of their online roleplay enjoyment.  Roleplayers who enjoy magic, women fighting etc.etc. would gravitate to it. The market goods for avatar appearences, buildings, weapons, magical items, dragons, demons etc. etc. is already there and very well established for second life.

I had for 9 months a Conan based roleplay sim, Cimmeria, theme name "Conan Evolved", very similar to Gor in technologies and rules.
I miss it until today really, had far more roleplay potential, was far more open, but died because I could not do it alone and most others lacked dedication, including other sim owners I "recruited" that wanted me to do all events and recruiting for them...

It actually would seem to be the answer to for the people that want to play the fighting and titties game.

It allows for the zena style characters for the women. Good luck to them.

I would like to see all GE sims switching to Age of Conan.... Im even sure that they would get new rpers, even Gorean BTB ones, as after all, BTB RPers have nothing against female warriors in a world where they exist...

There are less limits in Conan than in Gor...

Finally, why GE bother with Gor? Age of Conan could give them, even, more fun!

One of the main reasons my Conan theme failed was because people dont know Conan, with AoC at max yet. It is really strange for me, Gor has 30 books least players in the world really read, Conan has massively more, and a ton of comics and now 3 movies, cartoons, anything. But people always told me "Gor is easier as I know it. I know nothing about Conan, what am I supposed to play here?"

I could not get lore NCs written fast enough really. And in my theme I did not even want a BTB movement, did not ask for anything to be Conan like except to keep in your birth country's style (e.g. a Cimmerian Barbarian looking like one, a desert person looking like one), which I had detailed descriptions for for each country.

Seems like an AoC sim would be a no brainer.  It would be very much like Gor but with female fighters, wizards and such.  Sounds cool as hell.  If Capua and Game of Thrones can make it, I dont see why AoC wouldnt.
