I was wondering what people would think about agreed travel routes for getting from one sim to another in SL.

There could potentially be an agreed map showing how long it takes IC'ly to get from one sim to another, and what sims could be visited  along the way. What means of travel is needed to get places etc. Obviously you wouldn't take a "real" amount of time to travel~ but an SL appropriate conversion or something.

Seems fun to me, any thoughts?

I have Seen people who make the effort, when taking part in a War or extended Role Play, who will travel to Multiple Sims on the path to get to their destination.  It DOES make for fun RP.  However there are two major obstacles to over come.

1) the Convenience of just TPing from one place to another will always overcome the dedication of making the effort of following the path.  People will be Happier to just disapparate in Ar and arrive in Treve, rather than go through the trouble of Visiting three or 4 sims along the path...

2) The magic Word Agreed.  The Minute you have to get more that 2 sims accept anything, you are asking for trouble.  Who's Map is the "official Map"?  what Cities are on the route from one sim to another?  How Many stops do we HAVE to make..

I would Encourage it on a personal level, but you would never see it on a large scale, Sorry.

hm, I commute 2 hours a day or more. I am glad SL has TP, no need to role play traveling, I already do that enough in RL.

I do so wish that would happen but I  am afraid, I have to say that it is SO unlikely to ever happen.
As was said above, getting everyone to agree on doing this is about as likely as seeing a KUR on Earth in RL!

I would love it if the SIMs were Visited en route.....Maybe, Just maybe it would be possible once a month, to have a "Realistic Journey". That would then get people to see other SIMs, Get New RP going...and who kows......You may never get to your intended destination lol.

you could do one for BTB and one for GE

Please do let me know if you try and plan this, I would Happily Advertise it in the GRC for you and do anything I could to help..Hell, I may even join in!!!!

I was recently hired as a guard for the Regent of Teletus who going by caravan to Ar. We will travel over a few sims and the trip is suppose to take 2 rl days of role-play.  We have wagons and all. We may could use the map at the hub as a diagram for the routes as for what sims we have in game. Traveling over the sims. Someone would need to contact the sims and see who is game. I always wanted to make use of each regions comidities such as Thentis-black beans.  Tyros cherries. Cos grapes.  Ect, ect... have all these produts made up with the rose scripts (give a object a shelf life) and instand of us always pulling these things out of air we have to forum trades with cities to get these things. Sometimes too a crop shortage could accur.  Imagine a bad wheat crop and flour was in shortage... or one of the grains used to make paga and was a gorean wide paga shortage. Paga would rise in price as much as black wine...

I think this sounds like a fun idea.  As a slave player who makes meals and serves on occasion, it is interesting to say, there is no more cherries in the whole city, or there is a Black Wine shortage.  The stress of a Free going with out their Black Wine or tea or whatever there is a shortage of.  The sims where the product is grown or made can maybe dictate... or not.  Outlaws could have raided a shipment of produce and there is a shortage just for that region.  Sounds great!

As far as traveling, I think it works great if a person or people want to take on a journey and they role play it.  There is the Impress I believe and I know that many cities welcome visitors and this is done quite easily.  It just all comes out in the role play where you visit.  I have known a few to do this when traveling and it seems to work out very well.

I totally get point #2, but to point #1 I would just think that if my purpose is role-play, than the travelling from one sim to another is actually fun, and just adds more to it.  It's not like you actually have to walk a great distance from one sim to another~ ultimately TP is your only choice  Tongue.  What would one be impatient about in that case?  Rp can't slow you down from Rp'ing-but I understand if you're going to Raid somewhere and you only have 30 mins to play or you're meeting someone for a scene or any other million number of reasons.

Also to Xaz' point about the trading stuff~ I love that kind of idea.  It would be cool if travelling from one place to another was more risky because of distances etc.  Higher fee's could be sought for delivering more valuable items at greater distances.  Obviously this can all be RP'ed without the courtesy visit to sims along the path, but...still I think it would be fun.

OK, lets say I was in Tarnburg, and wanted to go to Tyros to by Olives... I am going to use this Map http://jozie.net/Gor/MapofGor/ as it is a Favourite of mine.  The First thing I need to do is travel from Tarnburg to Talmut, then take a river to Turmus, then Travel the vosk Delta to Port Kar, and hire a boat Tyros.  That's 4 Cities to stop and RP in.  That is Not a bad thing by a long shot.  However i had a plan to go to Tyros, and i can Directly Tp there.. bypassing all the Travel, the attempts to get into gates, the passing over my Bow at least a three times, being asked my name and homestone, and other repetitive RP. I think fewer people will make the effort to Take that route, and go through the Monotony, than would just go to Tryos.  People Like the instant Gratification.

Julliette, why not contact some sims owners that are close on the Gor Map and start setting up a beta test for this. I am willing to help out in any way I can. Perhaps too we can contact Tyros... Cos, Thentis..  cities that are known for certain items and see if they would agree to a Trade Test.

@ Juli, I have an understanding in the old days of SL Gor, the Vosk regions were actually connected, and that you could sail port to port. It would be fun to have something similiar like that, and I think your idea is a decent one, if sims are open to travel roleplay. Xaz's ship roleplay seems to indicate they will be. Best with this idea.

@ Lax - But if you were in Harfax, would you play walking the road of Clearchus to Ko-Ro-Ba, then to Chiron (since there is no Rovere), and then sailing up to Atria? Or would you go by wagon accros the Satarna feilds and sail from Rive-De-Bois?

It would always be fun if sims were connected. However, they are not. Doing the traveling from sim to sim is a lot of fun! As for what transportation if preferred over certain areas... well... you could do some research in the books. The easiest way to keep people from fighting over what is better.

Recently I had a need to travel to Tarnwald, and joined Xaz and others on the Impress.

I'd say it was actually Impress-ive.  The only complaint I have .. we didn't spend enough time on the ship and as a result, we couldn't engage in any really detailed or drawn out roleplay, and so I didn't want to get off the boat!
