As you all probably know, I'm shopping for a new home again. Sadly the amount of time that I can spend on Second Life has been greatly reduced due to my First Life.

However, there is a sim that I've heard a lot of good things about. I decided to give it a try and see if I fit in. I've been there three times so far and have left disappointed each time.

The first time a man roleplayed asking who I was and what I was doing in their city. The roleplay was nice but it was short and he quickly passed me off to a slave to show me where the Inn was.

The second time I had a very short roleplay with a slave who seemed distracted and not interested. I had to log shortly after and so I made my excuses and ended the roleplay.

The third time I tried to roleplay with several people. Some were AFK, another group was in an ooc conversation, and yet another never responded.

I put in an application days ago and haven't heard back from them.

I admit that I'm a little stubborn when it comes to my stories. It makes sense that I would be in that city and I'd really like to get my foot in the door. I just don't know how to do that. Surely what I've seen can't be a good representation of this sim that comes so highly recommended.

Each time I'm there I see people roleplaying and having fun. I hear the praises. I see the pride in people that say they live in this sim. I'm beginning to wonder if it's my approach that's failing me.

I thought about contacting an Admin and asking for help but that makes me feel so silly. What Admin would like to hear from someone they don't know that their city is failing them as a visitor?

When I joined Cyprianus, I had been observing for weeks. One of the warriors there finally teased me about being a permanent observer and urged me to jump in and start roleplaying. He offered to be my guardian and helped me get set up. When I joined my last home, it was because my RP father was living there. He brought me in and helped me get set up there too. I don't have that this time. I'm feeling very lost on how to break into the roleplay of this new sim.

Input please? How do you do it?

Mmmmh... So, this man was able to see, in a city of several thousands citizens, that a veiled FW was a stranger... Interesting....

Oh Sasi, I thought of you when he was talking to me!  Wink

There will be silly roleplay like this in every sim. I try to look past the little things to get the big picture.

It's just so frustrating. I'm starting to believe that I just don't have the right connections to get my foot in anywhere.

I have always used a pretty simple formula for entering a new city all done ICly.

First I arrange employment usually starting with an interview with the person or persons in charge.  Don't limit yourself to the First in caste but ask for one of their underlings to get a lay of the land, argue about taxes, customers and business in general for your caste.  You can even ask for caste sanctuary (caste charity)

Arrange for housing & food.  Initially this would be temporary so find out where the inn is located and negotiate a price for lodging rather than accepting the posted rate.  Ask their opinion of the city and if they have some ideas about your future customers and long term housing options such as who might be interested in taking in a boarder.

Consider finding long lost family or hiring on with a House which will provide familial or house RP with a set group that will open the door to others.

For the guy at the gate who hinted at you not being local which he could have ICly been based on your clothing, your accent or any number of factors all BTB, use the opening to ask him if he is for hire for private service or know anyone who might be interested since you might be looking to augment your staff of guards. (not sure your caste)

As far as the application I'm not a fan of them but if you have submitted one OOCly then I don't believe it would be a bother to ask OOC of the admins what the status might be.

Is it highly populated and busy? If so, the admin is probably backed up on apps. Do you know anyone i nthat city? If so, ask them to talk on your behalf. But really, if you've been disapopointed so many times, why keep trying? Already your roleplay has been disappointing, do you want to keep doing that?

I was going to ask that question too but hopefully there were positive experiences as well.

Forget them. Find another sim. I loath sims that are not newcomer friendly and so much into there own stuff they can not welcome a new person with some good role-play.  Personally I would not want to be involved in a sim like that.

I'm a little shocked at the type of roleplay I've gotten compared to the roleplay of others in the same sim. I don't believe that they can be this closed off to visitors when I see more and more people with this sim listed as their homestone. Certainly they don't all have connections, right?

Kaitlin: I wouldn't have thought of some of that. I don't know if I'll be able to do any of them since I haven't even been able to roleplay out getting a room at the Inn, a bath after my travels and some food to eat.

Delaynie: I don't know if they are busy or not. There's been no more than a dozen people there each time I visited.

Xaz: You're right. Maybe I just am not a good fit for this sim. I could easily FTB my time there and move on to another city.

I know you from your post here, your a good person and you sound like someone who would be fun to role-play so its not you, its them. Sometimes sims are just so cliquish and into there own selves that they don't let someone new in.  Move on. Find yourself a new sim you have fun in.

Your IC father will be opening a new sim soon. I will give you the tour of the build so far next time I am online. We are almost done and it has a healthy bakery. I would of course expect my daughter to be there in order to protect her from all the fiends out there.

Lady Yay as the daughter of the man who runs the place. This should be interesting!

"You'll taste my buns and you'll like them or I'll tell my Father that you tried to poison me!"

I may want to apologize in advance to whoever joins this sim. LOL

Just remember which buns you're tasting! LOL

Don't let him NEAR the oven or stove!!!!!!!! Shocked

He can't possibly do any more damage than I already do to the ovens of Gor.
