I am curious to know what others think.  Earlier today there was a kajira that was sick in real life (a bad cold) and she brought her symptoms into her SL RP.

Now being a physician I treated her with the various herbs I had at my disposal, told her Master to wrap the girl in furs and let her kennel for sleep.  Which to his credit he did.

Then reminded me that on Gor, most diseases have been wiped out.  Which in the books it does state, even aging poses little problem to those of the Green caste.

Which lead to an OOC discussion about the reality of Gor.  I would rather have some diseases (like colds) then have nothing to do all day than slave exams and removing arrows from warriors when they shot them selves in the foot.

I have treated dehydration, mental illness and delivered babies.  All of which is within the realm of "reality".

When I am on Gor, it is very real to me.  I try to think how I would act in such a society.  What would I be capable of and what would be my limits.

For example, we have two people that are rather mad.  They are playing insane characters, which I find more annoying than anything.  Why?  Because in the reality test of Gor, I think they would have been either locked away or, more likely, killed.

The insane free woman would have no suitor and no income.  If she was collared her Master would most likely use her for sleen feed due to the insanity.  And would her caste support her for long?  We don't know.

The insane man, well I have a feeling he would simply have been run through by some young punk warrior.

Gor is harsh.

I think its a nice variety in Rp to play a cold - maybe i should come with my mistress to you and see what you can do about my Problems with my sciata and spinal disk i have in RL at the moment  Wink

Maybe it is not realistic for gorean life to have such diseases, but well - Sl-Gor isnt very realistic anyway and as long as it isnt an absurd disease, why not?!

playing a mentally ill character is sort of marginal and i can imagine its very hard to interact with those persons...

In some ancient and medieval societies, the mentally ill were regarded as something special - ie. "touched by the gods" .

Norman, however, doesn't seem to deal with the subject.... except, I think, in Priest Kings of Gor. Did anyone else get the impression that Vika's father, Parp, was mentally ill?
