"A woman , I had learned, must choose between freedom and love." Slave Girl of Gor, page 412

"A man can truly love only that woman who is truly his, who belongs to him. Otherwise he is only a party to a contract." Slave Girl of Gor, page 444

"…no free woman, because she is free, can truly compete for the attention and affection of a man as can a slave girl." Fighting Slave of Gor, page 217

"Bondage is a soil in which it is natural for love to blossom." Blood Brothers of Gor, page 113

Are quotes like these one reason why we have more kajirae then Free Women in Gor? Is this role a sort of unattractive to play for the most of you?
How free is a free woman, when she needs to sacrifice love as the price for being free? Is this the truth or the way some of you out there think?*grins about the impression of the every time bored and by the non-love-live shrivelled free women
...hm…I can’t support this cuz it isn’t the experience I made.
And the Free women I met didn’t seem to live that way either. So I am pretty sure that we have so many different characters and the women I met were by all means capable of intense passion and love.

One more thought: As I wrote in the post about Free woman “If you have a look into the books you find it noted, that the majority of women in the gorean society are Free Women and only about 2-3% are slaves. If you walk around in the gorean places in SL you may find it the other way around and more women who chose to role play as slaves. Furthermore a lot of women who started playing the role of a Free Women become enslaved, which as well reduces the number of Free Women in sl-gor.”
If due to the books we have a majority of free woman in Gor how can this be? I can’t imagine that most of the gorean males would live without love if they can find it only with a slave.
And..well…it seems to be a lil reduced if this would be the only reason to deny to be free. Personally I really love that role and I don’t want to exchange. Wink
So what are your thoughts about this? Why do we have so many slaves in Gor (sl) and less FW?

Greetings Mistress,

pia has thought a lot about the question of why there are so many more slaves in SLGor than Free Women, and her suspicion is that it is because a lot of the weight of the role play (of the non-battle kind) is carried by slaves.  Slaves typically attend classes where they learn elaborate serves, where they memorize details of flora, fauna and customs from various locales and societies in the books, and where they learn the etiquette required to fulfill their roles.  Free people are for the most part Free to interact however they see fit and with little training or guidance, this usually means standing around the docks chatting about the newest SL download and how it borked their computers (when not battling and complaining about meters).  If you are a woman who wants to RP, slave is the role with the most avenues of RP open to you, as panther ends up being for the most part mostly more of that meter battling stuff which IMO isn't really RP and the Free Ladies girl has met have been very limited in their role play.

This girl does not in any way mean to be disrespectful to the Free who do read the books and have backstory and who do role play, nor does she mean any disrespect to the lifestylers.  Girl thinks its less a problem of individuals and more a problem of institutional framework.  Free people, even Free people who read the books, perhaps don't need guidelines and stuff, but need an rp story frame to interact in in a meaningful way.

I would agree largly with what Pia stated (Welcome by the way girl - if your not familiar with her blog, I highly recommend it).  But would like to expand on this a little if I may.

I also think that many woman come to Gor looking for an escape from the RL.  They are busy with kids, jobs, family and have to be the "boss" in so many ways.

Suddenly they are enslaved.  Forced to release the "inner woman" and are told what to do, how to act.  For many these are feelings that have been buried inside them and now are free to act upon.

It is a very simple philosophy but I think holds a grain of truth.

hm..it is really an interessting point of view Adam and I am pretty sure this might be it for a lot of woman, that they have the intention to give up their boss-role. But aren't many women more a sort of boss in the background? They rule the family issues, the men officially decide which way to go and the main work is done by the women. And well those women are used to lead their men, without staying in the first line.
It seems to me to be pretty the same with slaves or in the gorean world with free women. Both are part of the society which is dominated by men and they fill up the life with color and content, while the men have the impression to lead. Wink So maybe it is just that those women feel familar to that attitude.

I know that we can find exceptions stated in the books f.e. Talena - where women have truly a position of power such as leading a council, a City or whatever but:
In general, Gorean do not prefer to place women in positions of power. "Women, …, seldom release the following instinct in men. Men, accordingly, do not on the whole, care to follow them. In doing so they generally feel uncomfortable. It makes them uneasy. They sense the absurdity, the unnaturalness, of the relationship. It is thus that normal men commonly follow women only unwillingly, and only with reservations, usually also only within an artificial context or within the confines of a misguided, choiceless or naïve institution, where their discipline may be relied upon. Their compliance with orders in such a situation cannot help but be more critical, more skeptical. Their activities tend then to be performed with less confidence, and more hesitantly. This often produces serious consequences to the efficiency of their actions. It is interesting to note that even women seldom care to follow women, particularly in critical situations. The male, biologically, for better or for worse, appears to be the natural leader. In the perversion of nature, of course, anything may occur." (Players of Gor, p.288) But, this is a generality for which there are a number of exceptions. A free woman of superior ability can achieve much, including ruling a city. That is fully supported by the philosophies of Gor.

Just a thought of mine in addition (hope I was able to express it understandable in english)

Hm,

Lajas Post is one view, but I found on the same page, where her qute came from (geocities.com) the following one, which I, as free woman, like much more:

Quote
Free women on Gor fulfill a number of different roles, roles that essentially cannot be filled by kajirae. These are important roles, ones that contribute significantly to the effective functioning of Gorean society. These roles include positions of power, Caste membership, Free Companions and mothers. These roles are far more important than the role of a slave. Slaves, in general, contribute little to the operation of Gorean society. Though there are work slaves, the primary purpose of the majority of slaves is for the pleasure of men, a type of luxury. A city could exist without slaves but not without free women.

well wishes,
Kaya
