Is this just me.. or is this constant interupption of RP with the thousands of Tal/Greetings going on bugging you.

Day after day I am involved in RP with a group of people.. discussing the beheading of a warrior, plotting the overthrow of another city, discussing raising taxes or whatever... its detailed, its intriguiing, its often funny.. AND THEN

Tal tal tal tal tal tal tal tal tal.. or greetings greetings greetings greetings greetings greetings greetings greetings

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

in real life do you people barge into the middle of another group of people and just start saying hello hello hello..or do they stand back and listen, observe and wait for an appropriate moment to enter the conversation or announce their presence

First thing i was told when i came into gor.. was to announce your avatars presence with a simple emote for example "Walks up slowly to the crowd and stands listening for a moment"...........this goes for slaves especially

Am I being an old pain in the arse or am i right about trying to show some consideration to others and let the RP discussion evolve and try to pick up on the issue being discussed ?

No I totally agree. It does get annoying sometimes with the arriving and departing of people (revolving door syndrome); be it free or slaves. I admit at times, I actually use that period to go to the bathroom or make a cup of coffee and hey! it actually is well timed.

What I usually do upon approaching a gathering that is already immersed in some discussion is to emote inclining my head in silent greeting as I try to catch up with what's being discussed. Even when a few individuals greet me, I simply ignore it as I've already greeted (in silence).

With slaves, they should do the same. I've seen some slaves who on errands totally divert their path in order to avoid the scenario this OP addresses. If not on errands, then again they can emote their humble and silent greeting of respect and servitude using the word "Free" oppose to "Masters" and "Mistresses"and speak when spoken to.

Many times, I will not even sat Tal. I'll emote smiling to the new Master(s)/Mistress(es) in greeting and go from there. slaves are not supposed to interrupt the Free.

You are NOT being a grumpy old man about this Carter..it is annoying beyond words. It is my understanding that a slave should not speak unless spoken to..When my Master approaches a group, I keep my mouth shut until or unless I am spoken to directly. Sadly there are a few who have actually chided me, either via roleplay in open chat or privately in IM for not greeting. Many of my greetings or acknowledgements of being greeted are silent nods, smiles or wink as Wanita said. The interruptive greetings is just plain rude.

i'd be lying if i said it didn't annoy me, but i'd be alot more of a liar if i said i didn't do it.. and once more, i don't blame it on others.. i enter a room, or the city and my first line is approaching them, saying "Tal" (have never really said greetings) and then asking questions off of the next line of RP to find the theme.. it is quite annoying, but i have really never said anything, just continue with the RP.

Oh yes I agree, its a pet hate of mine, totally right in rl you wouldnt just barge in to a conversation or situation..you would wait and observe, but its easy enough to emote acknowledging whats going on and smiling in an emote, canting a head, etc, just a bit of imagination and more fun I think...and I say this with regards to the Free and slaves, the same with goodbyes, I used to get dragged off and didnt have time to say all the goodbyes, its just how it would be sometimes..maybe just enough time to give a smile before moving swiftly on.

Xaz: /me walks up to the group and nods

group:  Tal Killer, tal, tal, Tal, Greetings master ( repeated by ever slave within chat range)

I sometimes advoid groups of slaves and free's now just to advoid the 15 Tals.

*agrees with what sophiaa said*  When I owned Mira she was not allowed to speak unless I gave her permission.

I totally agree, I once said that SL Gor can write an entire new Gor novel just filled with Tals and greetings. However I blame the lack of knowledge in rp. Isn't it wise to educate those new and include the greetings? Just my two coppers....

it can be very annoying, we even have had that during tribe meetings, people came to late and started tal-ing all in the middle of a discussion. I f someone does that in a RL meeting which I leads, she gets the verabal whip.

However in some sims the excessive greeting is encourage even, look at the rules I resently found in a lifestyler sim. I must admit that 2 years ago we had such like rules at Kataii too.

Quote from: some picked up slave greeting rules
ARRIVAL and GREETINGS – When you arrive to where Masters or/and Mistresses are, do “obey” or "karta" until released from that position (than the slavewill take one of the applicable "tower" or "naduw" position). Slaves always greet on arrival and first, period. They do not ask permition to greet or wait till are talked to. They greet by education. Slaves always farewell on someone’s departure. Period. Greetings or farewells are sign of good manners.
- The rules for greeting are simple: if the slave know the Free and their positions in the city they greet by decrescendo order of importance. If the slave do not know the Free, greet by “groups”, first the “Master” or “Masters” then “Mistress” or “Mistresses” and for last kajirae. Do that in separated lines.
- *You greet always by order of importance of the Free in the city - the Ubar/Pasha before all the others. If the Admin is present he/she is to be greeted next. Do greet with a small pause between and one greet by line. Do not mix.
Ex: ((l Your Master/Mistress, 2: Pasha /Ubar /Admin; 3: other Masters, 4: Mistress/Free, and 5: sister/s and kajirae))
a. Greetings My Master/My Mistress
b. Greetings Pasha /Ubar /Admin/
c. Greetings Master/s
d. Greetings Mistress/es (here also by rank)
e. Greetings sister/s and kajirae by last
