I've been thinking about my backstory a great deal the last two days and I realize it's been 5 years since I've read the books at lest, since most of them are still packed awa from my last move.  My tomorrow goal is to find them and start rereading.

I know I'm mixing up Gor fanstories with the books due to time, but there was something that I read somewhere, about a girl who was captured in her apartment. She was branded while asleep and woke the next night to a collar, then tried to run from the people 'stalking' her, ending up at the spaceship which then crashed.  And I remember that most of the books referred to girls from earth as if they were lower class than gorean born slave girls, considering them to be somewhat barbaric.  And I vaguely remember that one of these girls from the books was turned over to a sort of slave academy to be taught the basics.  How common were these agents on earth and why were they there exactly?

The basics of my backstory right now are that my character was captured by a man at her University, drugged, but not branded or collared. She awakens in the mountains having been kept drugged for a time period to find that there is chaos.  She thinks that  she is in Europe, or on a movie set in her confusion.  The vessel they were on has crashed. Now I don't know if it's feasible for it to have been a space ship or a smaller type of flying vessel, but she is told to run and hide. I was thinking she could then be found by raiders or scavengers from the city of Treve and then we could roleplay out the capture, etc.

How true to lore is this and can someone prod me in the right direction before I start to write this story that is brewing in the back of my head? I can already hear some of the earlier dialogue for it, which is why I am asking now and not in a week when I've reread at least 2 of the books. I know it sounds a little odd, but this is how I write.   Even specific books that deal with the captures would be helpful. I think I have the first 10 and then some scattered after that I picked up here and there as the books were out of print a decade ago when I was first reading them.

Thanks! /hug.

You are thinking of "Slavegirls of Gor" its a while since ive read it but she is taken from her apartment and brought to Gor , and i think in one of the books a girl is placed in a slavers house to be trained as a Kajira, in some of the books a barbarian girl is pjust taught by other girls of the chain, from what i can remember barbarian girls from Earth,we regarded as uncivilised but also exotic , and after training superb slaves, of course the slavers who took the girls from Earth always picked intellingent independant minded girls who would make excellent slaves once broken and trained, i think in one of the boks it says it requires a quick intelligent mind to withstand the rigours of being trained, also Earth girls names were used often in the books to demean gorean girls or were liked because they were exotic and out of the ordinary , the only problem with your story my be that the ontly time i recall an untrained earth girl running about Gor , in Earth clothes was in "tribesmen" i think, and she was used as a messenger to get Tarl murdered as he was the only one who understod her speaking English, apart from that i think its a great idea and I am sure you will be captured and taken by a hansom warrior as soon as you set foot in Treve, have fun

I've played a 'barbarian' and added some spice to my RP in doing so. Like, people automatically assume if you are of Earth, you're stupid. DON'T let them get away with it! But, anyway...I send a notecard for you to look at. I made it up months ago and those I give it to, seem to love it. It's like EVERYTHING you'd ever need to know about Gor...enjoy! =)

A Barbarian can be an interesting RP.  I depends on where you want to pick up the RP.  They were not so common as that they were running around everywhere but they were common enough that everyone knew about them.  To the Free there is only one rank of slave.  There iwas a pecking order to slaves.  SOme of the slave girls help train the new ones and in some cases the slave even called these other girls Mistress. But again to the free no slave is of higher rank then another but if you are playing a girl that just arrived you obviously will not speak the language.  Communication will be an issue just as even the basic understood facts that a Gorean would know.  You would not know the names of food, drink, slave postions, Castes, men carrying swords, et al.....The list goes on and on...What is a Initiate?  Why are there only 5 of the High Caste.  I have seen a lot of people attempt this rp but few carry it off well.  If you find some skillful people around you it will help.  You can also start her off having her been on gor for a few months already and that will give you at least basic language skills.
Good Luck.

I agree that a barbarian new to Gor wouldn't know most food/drink, she would not know positions. Some food and drink do share names with those of Earth. So, you would know milk, tea, ale, etc.... you wouldn't know paga, black wine, ka la na, etc. It can be fun playing this role. And you can still incorporate some current earth things too. Like, once...omg lol I was RP ing a girl who forgot where she was and mentioned leer jets... it got a few brow raises and was comical to say the least.

Language wise - were therer sleep tapes like in some scifi books, or was the language enough like some Earth languages?  I know a lot of Gor is based off of Rome/Greek so if my character was good with languages and well studied in that regard, would she understand the similiarities? I don't want to start a few months in, I want to start as she is waking up from being captured. It will be a learning experience for both of us /grin

Off to take a nap. Thank you all for responding and I'll start putting my backstory together  in the next few days.

well usually the first thing a barbarian girl learns is the language with a whip if needed also the first Gorean word she learns is "La Kajira"

It is fun actually rp'ing with a barbarian. Makes me laugh for real. Have met three at least in the past who unfortunately found themselves enroute to Minus and I must say, kudos to them. I hope they had as much fun as I did though they fell foul to my mood swings.

Can be tiring but these girls obviously attempted very hard to stay as authentic as possible.

Actually, I'm pretty sure the first word Valleri learned was "vulo."  Sorry to burst your bubble. Tongue  Furthermore, I've always been the whipper, never the whippee!

Was it not in the book Captives of gor, I think that's the one your speaking of when el in or Brinton of park ave. was watched at a young age, and they knew they would one day come for her , she was branded with a lazer of sorts. then crashed on gor. But. I agree, find a good story and have fun with it I was new to gor and came in as a fw, wish i had done it as a slave from earth. learning would of come much faster ,

best wishes for fun and good rp.
