Can somebody explain to me the reason the purpose the role play theme of renaming people when they become Slaves

Day after day I interact with slaves with names that 90% of the time i cant spell.. where the hell are these names coming from.. is it  a competition or a cunning plan to confuse the hell out of me...

I start the day calling the girl Jane.. next time I see her she is vulcarnia  or poppittia...or something bloody ridiculous

The next week I see poppittia and now she is called hypothermia or some such nonsense

Then hypothermia IM's me.. and says "hi its jane"..  Huh Jane who I ask.. i dont know a Jane

Are you just trying to confuse me, drive me nuts or test my spelling

Can somebody explain what this renaming has to and what benefit this has...

and if there is a reason.

What the hell happened to names like Jane, Susan, Sally.. names I can spell goddammit  Wink

Well, I'll agree with you about your mind...

but as well, I will agree with you about the names.  I know that it's an owner's perogative to rename their property.  However I kind of like the name to be the name of the avi so I don't have to search thru NCs to figure out who I'm talking to.  Though I never call a slave by a name anyway... it's a evil plot, and those who were in on it are snickering in dark corners and giving each other high fives..that's what those strange sounds are in that village of minus and city of treve

Haha now do not go blaming me i feel I have helped those of us old and infirm and just a little senile the names I give the city girls are easy and simple so simple I can remember them for example loosie - Lucy. Persephone - rya. Ashley - asha. Shanice- Sara. Dina I'm leaving dina Dana I would have left as Dana but Lina works too. Segulah was not my doing I call her apple and my own girl farah you can call cake that's no to mention catalya is milk

Grin  And once again strengthens my resolve to just forget calling them by any name and just yelling out something like... "hey you... yeh you... the nappy headed one... come here."   Wink

But I have to admit I'm pretty equal opportunity.  I don't call many free by their names either unless we're very close, and I've been known to give names that may not be my own.   Cheesy

Be well,
Lilith

I totally agree..why cant the owner or slaver simply rename the girl..the same? sophiaa is sophi...etc..and its not only slaves..why doesnt everyone simply keep the name they logged in with..the Free changing their names is just as silly and just as bothersome!! It's NOT too late!! Why dont you call for a "recall" of felonious names..roll back to the name over their head? You'd have my vote! Wink

sincerely,

I have to say I really enjoy naming the girls, or did when I was Kennel Mistress, and personally don't think they were too confusing, but perhaps thats cos i have a youthful nubile mind with all its facets still going *feels so glad shes away on holiday and not logging in world to hear all the retort abuse to this post - grins impishly*

I also used to do it on the basis that a slave earn't their name, therefore I would chose something I thought fitting for that girl/boy of which they would know the meaning, this would be taken away however for something different and less 'enchanting' should they not deserve that name, having said that slut or beast works well for me too  Grin

Red I feel the same.  I know that segulah IC and OOC quite likes the fact that her name means 'treasure', and the IC around it has been fun for us both.  But I'm assuming this is about naming or not naming vs their original avi.  I think it's a nice touch to be able to allow a slave a name which means something special (esp city ones who are often without even clothes of their own), and to be able to give it and take it away at any given time enriches the RP.

When I owned Chelseyanne I changed her name to Mira meaning Mine in Gorean so I did not have to type out her av name. I am with you carter on this. One day a girls name might be Fruit, then the next day when I see her she tells me her new names is SlavewithLotsofnames.  I could see picking a new name for a slave if her name was DewyMistSlaveGirl007  Dagger, to like Amy. But some of the names I have seen are totally ridicules. Lately I just call them all 'Girl'.

*laughs* Segulah is actually Mackenzie McKenna (SL name). I hope I spelt her sl name correctly. She used to be JamesP's kajira but is now in transit awaiting to be fully recorded back as a city slave.
