I see the Ludus in a completely different light after viewing this slideshow and the third slide gives me new respect for what a Gladius can do IRL

yw , and right absoutely horrific,

However i have a book at home about the  Gladiatorial contests , and as some know , some Gladiators had superstar status , and because they were worth so much money to the promoters fights were1nt always to the death and even those that were billed as such often were`nt, (they were fixed ) , yes WWF was preceded by a few hundred years, the two men would agree who was going to win in advance and the loser expected lenience from the crowd or sponsor, well one fight in this book, they fought and when he loser was on the floor he asked for mercy but the crowd suspected it was fake and demanded death , as his opponent readied himself to kill the loser , he jumped up took up his weapons again and killed the other gladiator , i understand there was quite a stink about that .
