A Rich and Fertile Field (by Galahad Huet)

We are here to role play.  So I thought I would describe the opportunities out there for role play for everyone.

THere are several political happenings going on.  First there is a movement, some refer to as the "Free Gor" Movement.  It is led by Torvaldlanders.  They seek to rid Gor of the Priest Kings.  Their belief is that Gods are immortal and they know the Priest Kings die.  The Kurii battle them.  They know that the Kurii are not Gods.  So they know the Priest Kings are not either.  Their Gods are Thor and Odin.  True immortal dieities worthy of praying to.

The movement appears to be centered in Axe Fjord.  They have gone about Southern Gor burning the Temples of the Priest Kings. This was done in Olni, Vonda, Treve and Tyros.

This may lead to a religious war of sorts.

Tyros does not stand firmly with the south.  The Islands are remote and have more in common with Hulneth than places like Turia and Ar.  Tyros and Cos seek only the profits of trade.  Their navies are to protect and forge new trade routes.  Must trade goes North and comes South.  A war with the North is not good for Tyros economically.
But its lands have been attacked.  And it remains unavenged.

Meanwhile, the other great power and long time enemy of Tyros is Treve.

Back a few years ago now, Treve deposed its Ubar, Theodoric Delphis while he was out campaigning.  Having nowhere to go, his forces, tired and depleted, subdued the small garrison of Tentium and declared it occupied.  Only a small group of original Tyrosans escaped.  They were found only recently living among the ruins of the City of Telnus in Cos.

Trevens prospered here.  The lands are fair and lush, game is plentiful and the fishing is legendary.  They prospered and became powerful but never would answer to Treve.  Slowly, over the years, however, all vestiges of Treve have all but disappeared.

Galahad in his turn, as Regent deposed the Ubar and took his woman and his lands.  Lands he built for his glory.  Since then Tyros has continued to prosper but has fallen victim to its aid to Cos and to Port Cos.  These two strategic locations, full of history with Tyros, going back to Marlenus of Ar and beyond were weak.  THe restoration of Cos was expensive but it has paid off.  And the restoration of Port Cos, on the Vosk, first settled by the Cosian Navy, hence its name, for the war on Ar had provided a gateway to the very throat of Treve.

North of Treve, High in the Voltai Mountains, sits the beautiful City of Thentis.  As we wll sit and drink our black wine, we have to realize that it was a rare and well controlled commodity of great value.  It and the silver mine was responsible for its wealth.  Thentis fell into ruin after Olni and Vonda destroyed the Black Wine crops.  At the time, Tyros was at war with Thentis.  That war was bitter and costly to Tyros and its alliances.  An uneasy peace had descended on the two but Thentis was pulled down from within, descending into lawlessness.  Now a virtual shell, it rebuilds.  THe power behind Thentis remains with the Ubar who is missing.   His Ubara speaks for him, surrounded by men of the Caste of Assassins.  They have asked Tyros for aid.  Once more, Tyros extends its resources and joins with Thentis in a full military alliance.  These same assassins once lived in the fields of Minus.  Near the hidden city of Treve, it is said.

Treve is attacking many of Tyros' allies in force.  They have moved against Tarnburg, Tancred's Island, Piedmont, and even Vonda and Olni.  As well the Axe have raided in Thentis as well as Treve.

Meanwhile trade has never been better.   The Tyrosan Navy guards the south Islands and the Cos Navy the North.  Together they stand against Port Kar and its proximity.

With this in mind, each of us can go and play in the rich and fertile fields of role play.  A lot of work has gone into this.  The only hope of authentic Gor is to be AUTHENTIC.  Role play has to be the centre purpose of our time here.  Most who get involved in great role play will never forget the rush of adrenalin, the chance to write and star in a play, and to affect history even.

This applies to all castes.  Everyone. Now its up to you all to bring good rp to your Home Stone and raise the bar for roleplay.

Takes Marauders of Gor by John Norman and tosses it into the trash...
The part I cannot handle at all, is the concept of Kur and Torvaldsland working together...
Since the whole book of Marauders of Gor, Torvaldsland hates the Kur with a passion.

The storyline roleplay is great up to that point, until Kur become allies with the north.
The only hope of authentic Gor is to be AUTHENTIC.  ...
er..no. not kur allied with the northern men

I was hoping the night before when some Northerner entered the town of Minus that he would be interested in purchasing some "information" concerning Treve. To Treve's credit they are suspicious of the BC that are operating in their city (with LEGAL contracts to kill. I don't have the mark on my forehead just to gain access.).

Now i just hope this rp takes off. I really am interested in this "Holy War "

Hmmm...no? A lot of them are actually gathered and rpying this. Maybe for once, after they failed misserably on SL Gor to have one High Jarl of Torvaldsland, they now at least try to join in a war with a motive. Very by the book, very belieavable and fun.

I have yet to see more content on SL and threads with a reason, as this one. Well thought, Galahad.

Be careful though because the south does crusades against the heathens, and torvaldsland does have a habit of raiding notoriously rich temples...

So this scenario is excellent in concept, (get rid of the Kur fighting with northerners and it's a dream roleplay for great authentic gorean roleplay)

I applaud it-  it's an excellent roleplay purpose to get warriors and other roleplayers to have fun. Something that lacks most of the time.

the kur will join in ' loose ' alliances with whomever they wish, so long as they are getting what they wish out of it. it's not beyond belief that a torvie who's low on warriors or maybe just didn't have alot to begin with, but yet has a loose ' peace ' agreement with some kurs for the purpose of trading....wouldn't then enlist the aid of such powerful, intelligent beasts.  after all he'll think he's directing them, and saving his precious warriors by using the kur as shock troops.  The Kur, meanwhile will be thinking their using him, to gain access to places not earlier afforded them, and the riches contained there.  Last point.  this is SL, not the book, we may try and hold to the values, story lines all we want.  In the end you have what you'd have if those books could become real.  A fully intereactive environment, with people, places and things  that would not hold to anything specific as their lives change so to do opinions, strategies, conduct, etc. etc. the list goes on.  " throwing a book away, and saying well this is all very good, but because in book 9 this attitude was expressed means it's all bunk. " to me is very short sighted, what about in the last book ?  ( and i may have this part wrong but i'll forge ahead anyway ) where an in depth attitude and social measurement of the Kur was revealed ?  storylines change, happens in every long running book series, no reason to think Gor is any different.

In Kur of Gor, certain Kurii commanders try to recruit humans, among them Tarl. For gold or power. From the Kur side its very plausible to use humans, even Torvies, for their wars.
I think they can find ruthess epople in any region to work for them. But only individuals. I see no Kurii fighting side by side in an army with Torvies. But secretly there can be alliances between leaders of which the majority of the Torvies have no knowledge.
