last night I decided to slip down to Minus without escorts (everybody was busy) and in order for no one to know it was Snapper she was covered from head to toe the only way one could have known it was her is if they remembered her eyes , she didnt Speak when spoken to , she made the gestures of laying her finger to her lips the common sign of dont reveal , but yet everyone knew who she was ,, how ? the only way one could have known who she was ,,, was to read her name tag ,, I didnt go all haywire and start pitching a fit in IM'S I just roleplayed it ,, it was fun , but this does prove even though we dont want to and try our best not to ,, its so easy to read a name tag floating over ones head , maybe someone should get L.L. to see if they cant device a code that would let one turn off name tag so no one would see it. she even went so far as asking how did one know it was here ,,one answer she got was because of the quality of her cloths along with the size of her tits ,, ok now that one was a cackler cause Im pretty sure others have the same sized boobies and same quality cloths ,  Cheesy

well you can remove the tags in preferences, but the problem is to get All to use it and again really its just poor rp to read tags, if you rp like making your voice deeper or maybe wearing a wig, people should be adult enough and wise enough to see that as a sign as your being someone else then normal.... God hope that made sense...

Sometimes it helps, though not fool proof is to change your GM Titler to read "UNDER DISGUISE as a Mute".

I've seen people do this with a little more sucession then those who dont. As I said, not fool proof but it does make a difference with some folks because of the CAPS.

Bit like lottery so good luck.

I'm one of those people I guess :p

If I had seen an "under disguise" GM-tag I would've played along - it just didn't occur to me, since my attention was mostly distracted by another 'mission' I was on.

I usually always play along with such "disguise"-things, but this time it just didn't occur to me at all.

Haha oops... that must've been coincidence then. I didn't realize she was RPing disguised. I wondered why she was so quiet tho. Wink

Guilty as charged.

I don't know if I ran into you particularly last night, Snapper, but I have to admit that I wouldn't be able to tell you from Carter if I didn't read your tag.  I have no idea what people really look like, because I don't see their faces up close, pretty much never.  I try to remember who I've met in rp, who I haven't, so that I don't call someone by name I'm not supposed to, but looks, I have no clue.

Maybe I shouldn't call anyone by name, lol.  That would save me from messing up, I guess.

I actually get what Pax is trying to say and unless your tag specifically said 'in disguise' I would not have paid much attention to what you were wearing.

I rarely zoom in on people's faces unless I'm being particularly nosey; normally I just get an overall impression - ie by hair colour, clothing etc.
It's maybe just laziness as I'm not really bothered by what the AV looks like - I focus more on the things they say and how they act.

I will make a mental note to try and notice things like hair veils though in future Snaps as you are quite right.

Yeah, pretty much what Isabella said. Sometimes a person is too involved in a scene, writing furiously to take the time to cam around. Other times, there are heaps of textures/notecards floating along that cover the whole scene. And maybe they're just too busy in various IMs.

Or naturally it could be they read tags...

The fact is, I think we do need to sometimes focus on the visual effects of Roleplay, due to the fact that SL is a visually appealing simulation. But naturally, as others have said, the tags just are a convenient way of reminding people who you are.

After all, I can't tell you how many times people have called my character Trenzos instead of Cor.

I actually almost always have my cam pulled way back, so I can see who's around me.  In real life, were I a warrior always on alert, lol, I would be constantly looking around for threats.  The only way I can do that in SL is to keep my camera with a wide viewing area.  This doesn't lend itself to seeing details at all on other people's avatars.

I admit to reading name tags, if only to see if I actually know someone.  Sometimes, for people I don't see that often, I have a hard time recognizing their avatars, so I'll look at their name to see if I remember them.  If I don't, then they are a stranger.  The 'In Disguise' is also a good sign and I will go with that when I see it.  Full body cover may work, if you typically aren't wrapped up in the Robes and veiled within an inch of your life.  But if you run around normally run around wrapped up, I may not recognize that you are in disguise unless you whisper it quietly in my ear.

Did that make ANY sense?

Hehe, I myself have had enough deviant roles to learn the ways of disguises if anyone tries to act suspcious or anything, I can have real rp reasons. It is easier and harder in both ways for free women due to all the cloths and veils we already wear, so people get used to not seeing much. On multiple occasions as of late I have had issue of people yelling out 'Spacer!' in town when she changed to a different alias, or they dont even ask at all. Hah. Yes, you can put 'in disguise' in the tag.. but that kinda kills the point of Rping it out, and just tends to clutter the screen when everyone tries to discribe things in a tag. I guess just play along, if it gets to stupid just do a friendly ooc inform. I did a few weeks without tags once, was a interesting experience. Going first person without tags for a bit changes things a good bit.
