As i had to go last night after our succesfull takeover of the village, can anybody fill me in on what we did wrong to get it invalidated , and are we going to carry on with any rp about the religious wars, as there was so much background work put into this by loads of people it seems a shame to let it all go to waste.

Well... in summary

a) we had a little disconnect at the start... suddenley finding our brave, valiant and unrezzed band of brothers suddenly attacked as we arrived... discovering as Spike had scouted and comfirmed.. over 20 waiting for us, and somehow and I can only put it down to great teamwork and all those hours in the arena paying off... we took over the village and I have never seen so many tied up Torvies in my time in SL  Grin

b) We made a mistake regarding the use of the Treve swords some used, and I cut and a paste a comment from Victor.

1. We always need to check the weapons list. The sword that Jewwell made is Primal Weapons. If that name is not on their approved list, we cannpot use it. The Treve Gladius is made by Lotus Mistwallow of Wyvern Designs.

This became a huge source of contention and also comments about the Treve Shield..which despite using the standard GM shielding script, was referred to by some as a cheat and somehow was protecting us from damage.

In my 5 hours in Tyrs Fist.. I think I managed to post about 10 lines of RP, the rest of the time in IM's debating the use of the sword and the shield, where had all the inhabitants of Tyrs Fist gone too, why where we being IM'd about our script utlisation, the huds etc.

On the second attack, which was basically rent a gang of people from Kenzaz, Berzerkers, Ironhall etc who outnumbered us again and  despite my concerns we where not getting any RP time and this was descending into a raid, capture, release scenario.. the second attack occurred ..  Unfortunately again one of our warriors hadn't switched from the Treve sword and after we had taken them all down, it all started again... a number of comments and also now more directed accusory comments of cheating being levelled at a number of warriors.

I must admit, I was absolutley knackered by this point... couldnt handle any more drama and was certainly not going to waste my time having the men of Treve accused of using cheat weapons or any such non sense over a simple mistake of not switching from a sword made for us by a recognised weapons manufacturer, so I said lets leave.

We had gone to Tyrs Fist for a planned  and previously agreed 2-3 day occupation and RP, based on as you say Grondar, many many hours of RP leading up to this with the objective of creating a camp in the northern lands as part of our campaign and perhaps that was too ambitious..

What we must do.. is watch the weapons list... even if our Treve Sword and its weapon manufacturer is on the list. which it is in Tyrs Fist.. it could lead to misinterpretation and accusations of using illegal and cheat weapons from those who dont see the hours of arena sparring we do with melee weapons and as I suspect.... certainly using melee against people who are not use to it and not appreciating a skilled swordsman, can take somebody down without incurring any significant reduction in their own health.. which is what i suspect was the basis of the accusations of cheating, when some of our men had taken down 2-3 Torvies and still remained at 90% health.

This hasnt stopped the overall theme of the Holy War in my opinion, just that particular aspect of it, which was a shame given the effort and support of so many to get us to that point.

We didnt build a temple as planned in Tyrs Fist
We didnt get to steal any bond maidens.. they had somehow IC known we were coming and left the village  Sad
I hope we brought the smaller communities of the North closer together

So next on the agenda....

Melisande is organising a ball to draw the great good across the southern cities to discuss the problem with the North
Victor has proposed a meeting perhaps in Teletus to work out in detail who is with us and who is against us
We have identified the ring leaders in Iron Hall and Axe Fjord

so I hope it continues... and what else can I say.. the warriors of Treve were excellent in all aspects of IC and OOC behaviour and it was great teamwork from all.. including the slaves that where finally allowed to join us.. even trying to set up a camp and a BBQ before the last attack happened.

Yes I was very disappointed there were no pretty bonds waiting for us, only those nasty hairy northmen who didnt appeal to me at all ! Shocked

I do like the sound of the BBQ thats really living , look forward to carrying on and seeing the big get together still a pity it didnt work out and i dont think it was too ambitious for 2 days rp, i think some of the complainers could have cut some slack and maybe they didnt appreciate the scale of the rp

It is common that during a lag fest (with so many weapons drawn), the damage report may not show up instantenously.

What often happens with people who don't know how to use a shield is that they see the comment, "X has managed to shield the attack" and assume it was a cheat, expecially because the health does not go down. Defense goes down first when you use a shield, but if you don't know squat about shields, you won't understand what is going on.

For the record, I am one of the strictest weapons testers in SL Gor. Jewell had to revise her sword several times to get it within legal standards. The Treve Gladius is also legal. The Treve Shield uses the standard GM script everyone uses. Primus and H & S swords are actually a little better, so use of these weapons did not have any affect on the outcome other than give whiners one more excuse to complain because they lost.

Yes Wanita it was mentioned during the planning of the raid not to trust your meter as it probably wouldnt show true, on a lighter note, i was using the Imprudence viewer and I had a couple of freezes but in general it was much less laggy than i had on emerald or even snowglobe

It was a good battle indeed, though i feel we should train on grouptactics even more. Designating our warriors to a squad before the battle will ensure even a stricter dicipline, without having the men spread out too much.. we can give squads specific orders ie "Squad A, secure the dock, squad B, scout around  etc"

Also, i dont think many got the rules before we went in and the ones that were teleported in after the first battle, where the Treve sword was called invalid, probably did not know of that fact.

As far as the cheating goes; with all the training we do, especially a mere day after the First Sword tournament where everyone was at their prime in melee combat, i did not have any doubt that we would cut them down easily... even though the odds seemed against us. There was no OOC drama on our side as far as i could tell, but they sure as hell didnt make it easy for us.... i even saw a bubbled guy flying at some point.

All in all it was time well spent, my slave got to play up her northern heritage again, i got to bubble some torvies.. but i wouldve liked it if the complaints had been kept to a minimum. No-one likes a sore loser.. especially one that is allowed to walk free after the battle to regroup and try again.

Even Snowglobe ? Could you post a link to the viewer? I would like to try it out.

It is a shame the raid didn't go as planned or at least the outcome descended into  a OOC double bracket fest. I for one totally HATE the idea of folks giving the heads up before an attack that a raid is coming but then again I think that has been done in sl since Gor fans started making sims.

I know Ais who owns the sims wants to get alot of rp going and Carter is the same way with his sim. So i am a little dismayed to hear the results of the raid.

As far as the weapons list well that's always a mystery to me how some get decided as "legal" and some don't. I never saw a problem with Primus and the shield option is always nice to have. What would be cool and I don't know how it could be done is if they could leave the shield "on" so you don't have to always hit the "c" button or at least in some way use the middle mouse button for block (I'm stil getting used to using the w,a,s,d,buttons to move around in a fight.

I really like some of the features Imprudence has, but like all of them, it is buggy. I had an issue with a cap recently because I wasnot receiving her IM's. KirstenLee still seems to be the fastests, but S20 is a pain in the ass to use and does't always transfer inventory. S19 works well most of the time, but still crashes. Snowglobe crashed on me several times. Emerald has lots of great featurees, but is slower than the others.

I agree with Mord. It was our first melee only battle. Breaking people up into units will help with coordination. Still, we kicked ass!

A few notes on the Tyr's Fist raid:

I agree that we need to pre define tactical units ahead of time.

There was a lot of great fighting, but about no RP involved.  They were a bit too ready, and all the potential captives were simply not at home.  Maybe this kind of event needs to be seen in a different light.  It is simlpy a combat event, and isn't going  to generate a lot of other RP.

The lag was really low, by comparison to other battles of this size.  The elimination of bows was a great idea.  Bows simply crash sims.

PS.  The FS tournament is not yet decided.

It was going well in the middle, at least to my RP area. Cor was in search for the Lore Keeper so he could gain access to Tyr's Fist records. But when the message went around we had to retreat, that came to nothing.

It happens sometimes and I salute Carter for showing immense maturity by just conceding to them and not making such a big drama over it.

And besides, I took down TWO northern barbarians!!!

I have to say seeing you dash in.. take two down and reduce the third to the point he virtually ran off when the others came was one of the best moments. I was certain they would drag me off to some Northern hovel before you intervened

I was seriously looking forward to this and have the chance to be able to get some "camp slave" RP going as I've not done it before.  Big thank you to Carter for putting up with my questions when I knew he was busy getting things underway and again when dealing with the various bitching sessions during the occupation.

Myst and I had some great fun ransacking the place for food items and bringing them back.  Next time I think I'll tether her to me so she doesn't get lost  Wink Ju joined us to haul a whole roasted tarks back we found in the long hall, when all hell broke loose.

I have to point out there is some miscommunication when it comes to slaves helping out defending.  Mostly I ran around with my rock in aim to draw out men to chase me into the line of fire of our guys (don't know if anyone knew that or not) and avoided beign taken down but when I saw a boy slave run by I just couldn't resist and beaned him a few times with rocks until Mr. Mod Man told me I can't do it.  My bad.  But still felt good  Grin

I'm looking forward to the next one and hope I'm permitted to go.  Will be cool to have other slaves group together to help set up the camp and get the booze flowing to the men.
