Now here's a great read of roleplay too, the concept of laws and caste codes, where the lines, and how roleplayers preceive them. Read this and think about yourselves defining them.

[18:14]  Revenge Sempati: Now, back to before the disturbance. Has my brother lost his mind offering a place tot he sleen that struck my companion?
[18:15]  Adoveea Rau dumps the issue into the men's hands and says pointing a gloved finger at Matrim and Vin "talk to them about it"
[18:15]  Vin Sosa: hey I didn't grant that sand flea permission to be here
[18:15]  Saitin Ansome: chuckles as he thinks about going back to his warm comfy office
[18:15]  Matrim Draconia: I dont know the particulars of any arrangement concerning who lives here and who does not.
[18:16]  Matrim Draconia: I see him around.. he hasn't caused me any issues and has been respectful towards me. *shrugs*
[18:16]  kiya Pawpad facepalms
[18:16]  Saitin Ansome squeezes gin's hand
[18:17]  Vin Sosa: thought I will say the sand flea is going to be sore today
[18:17]  Matrim Draconia: you give him a few lessons as well?
[18:18]  Vin Sosa grins
[18:18]  Vin Sosa: more than a few
[18:18]  Tinza chuckles
[18:18]  Revenge Sempati shrugs "Attempting to take free women of the Port, striking free women of the Port, attacking Port warriors after a trial. I hardly consider him one to not cause issues, more bravado than brains.
[18:18]  Matrim Draconia: I spent a while beating him around yesterday
[18:18]  Adoveea Rau gives Vin a look and says "those two were like two tarns wanting the same territory and were ripping up the sky and the landing pad all night long
[18:18]  Kira Sciavo: Master, May I bring you anything from the tavern?
[18:19]  Matrim Draconia: I'm not a politician.. if he offends anyone else he'll be into custody again.. if he attacks anyone he'll be put down again
[18:19]  Saitin Ansome looks to kira aye girl black wine first slave two white sugars none of that yellow crap
[18:19]  Matrim Draconia: Until i have an order to keep him out or arrest him then my involvement is the same as it has been.. protect the port
[18:20]  Matrim Draconia: Unless I'm mistaken in my duties?
[18:20]  Ginger Shamrock whispers to Saitin... "ever heard of Broken Rock Inlet?"
[18:21]  Saitin Ansome shakes his head no
[18:21]  Revenge Sempati chuckles harshly and nods "Aye the duty is to protect the Port and citizens."
[18:21]  Kira Sciavo smiles warmly..."Yes Master, black wine first slave, two white sugars" as she presses her hands to the cobbles and rises with an eager bounce as she quickly hurries to the tavern
[18:21]  Saitin Ansome: then whispers where or what is that?
[18:22]  Ginger Shamrock whispers back... "I don't know... i just got a message that they would like to talk to us about a trade alliance"
[18:22]  MacKena Soothsayer: i will return
[18:22]  Revenge Sempati slowly shrugs his shoulders "If I come across this fool, I will not bother with much beyond slitting his throat."
[18:23]  Saitin Ansome whispers back is that so well send them a map of how to get here
[18:23]  Tinza shrugs
[18:23]  Vin Sosa: I been trying to do that the last three days and they won't let me
[18:24]  Revenge Sempati: He is not of the Port, or am I mistaken in that as well?
[18:24]  Vin Sosa: no
[18:24]  Saitin Ansome looks to Vin I say slit away grins any man that hits a free women is worth much any way
[18:24]  Vin Sosa: he is a cocky little sword from sand sleen
[18:25]  Saitin Ansome: no his a what did they call him a sand gropper
[18:25]  Adoveea Rau: he's working off his sentence of 5 gold in the tarn house
[18:25]  Vin Sosa: sand flea
[18:25]  Adoveea Rau: and working with the tarns
[18:25]  Saitin Ansome laughs thats it a sand flea
[18:25]  Matrim Draconia: I thought 6 since he bet against me in the match yesterday?
[18:26]  Revenge Sempati: Then he has no protection of the Port, and I care little of his debt to you Lady Dove. He dishonored my house.
[18:26]  Adoveea Rau: Drakena wouldn't take the bet
[18:26]  Matrim Draconia: ah
[18:26]  Adoveea Rau: Revenge? My question to you then is this? what use are the laws
[18:26]  BratCatz Lyon returns to Vens side, not knowing what she heard that scared her to death but seeing no one else ran for cover perhaps shes just paranoid with all shes been through lately... she gets as close to him as she can for safety
[18:26]  Adoveea Rau: if personal revenge will be done anyway. throw out the laws
[18:26]  Revenge Sempati: The laws protect the citizens of the homestone, not outsiders.
[18:26]  Adoveea Rau: they're useless
[18:27]  Matrim Draconia: And what was the Magistrates sentence?
[18:27]  Adoveea Rau: The laws were what were used to have him stand in court. 25 lashes and 5 gold fine
[18:27]  Revenge Sempati: He is not of the homestone, he has no claim on the protections of the laws of the Port.
[18:27]  Vin Sosa: 25 lashes and payment to the village
[18:27]  Journey Otoole: Ha
[18:27]  Adoveea Rau: it wasn't protection that the sentence was for
[18:27]  Vin Sosa: was the sentence
[18:27]  Matrim Draconia: Then I think.. until his debt is paid it's our obligation to serve the intrests of our laws
[18:27]  Matrim Draconia: and our sentences
[18:28]  Saitin Ansome looks to Dove "useless I think not there there for your protection ,tell us whats to stop him from being resentful and returning to cut your throat
[18:28]  Revenge Sempati: So, if your companion was attacked and slapped around you would stand idly to the side?
[18:28]  Revenge Sempati: I think not.
[18:28]  Matrim Draconia: I would have killed him from the start
[18:28]  Adoveea Rau: Like I said, why bother with the laws at all? then? just do personal vengeance on everyone per person. None of the courts, laws throw them out
[18:29]  Saitin Ansome shakes his head at Doves silly coments
[18:29]  Revenge Sempati taps the hilt of his sword "This is the law I follow and my codes. Everything else can be corrupted and twisted for other means"
[18:29]  Adoveea Rau: lets all go personal every violation of our customs
[18:29]  Ginger Shamrock meditates for a moment or two
[18:30]  Kira Sciavo heads to the service area, tiny feet gently kissing the stone floor with each step, biting her slip softly her blue eyes scan the shelves as she rises to her toes, slender arms reaching to wrap delicate fingers around a mug. Slipping it from the shelf, berry stained lips smile as she shines it to a gleam and holds it before the bright lights of the hearh to inspect it. Ladling the rich brew into the mug and measuring two of the tiny spoonfuls of sugars into the mug and a pour of the milk, twirling the spoon around the mug blending watching as the sugars disappear and the color turns lighter. Lifting the mug to her cheek she tests the temperature making sure it is not too hot.
[18:30]  Adoveea Rau: So Revenge, you are saying that the sentence wasn't good enough, the laws didn't uphold the honor of your woman and all that
[18:30]  kiya Pawpad glances up at her Master
[18:30]  Adoveea Rau: that means nothing counts but what each person decides is right
[18:31]  Adoveea Rau: You were not here, you men arrested him, court was held, law consulted, sentence and fine given and done
[18:32]  Journey Otoole: ha
[18:32]  Saitin Ansome looks to rev now thats not completely right is it,is it not part of your duty as a warrior to up hold the law
[18:32]  Adoveea Rau: you would of rather just had some say "not my problem" others just kill randomly. Sklp the laws and their process and enforcement
[18:32]  BratCatz Lyon mutters to herself now he gets the luxury of playing in the tarn house to "work off " his gold his sentence was very light indeed
[18:32]  Revenge Sempati: I just find it interesting a stranger was so protected and honored for attacking our citizens, I bet if I went to another city and slapped around their high physician I would soon be sitting on a spike.
[18:33]  Adoveea Rau: I hardly call 25 lashes and a 5 gold fine light
[18:33]  Journey Otoole mumbles lighter than you'll ever know
[18:33]  Adoveea Rau: would you call 25 lashes of a whip light?
[18:33]  BratCatz Lyon: yes
[18:33]  Revenge Sempati: I have given 25 lashes to men under my command for mere theft of supplies.
[18:33]  Vin Sosa: the way he moved last night Lady he never got those lashes
[18:33]  Adoveea Rau: I don't know about that Sir, that was the duty of the warriors I assume he was
[18:33]  BratCatz Lyon: i never seen or heard the lashes carried out either. It was to be a public whipping
[18:34]  Adoveea Rau: oh wait, SO failure of duty to carry out the law on that?
[18:34]  Kira Sciavo cups the mug between her palms as she softly pads back to the Master's feet, her joy of serving evident in each step as she approaches him, floating back to her knees she lifts the mug to him as she bows her head between her shoulders..."Master, I bring you blackwine, first slave. May you find it pleasing as well as this girl's service to you."
[18:34]  Revenge Sempati: I do uphold the laws of the Port, but as far as I am concerned a stranger does not have those rights.
[18:34]  Adoveea Rau: oh goody, law ignored after all, warriors doing the suggestions of the commander
[18:34]  BratCatz Lyon: but the one he offended was not present so i have been violated yet again by not seeing justice served
[18:34]  Saitin Ansome looks to kira as she returns
[18:35]  Adoveea Rau: all the ancient scrolls speak about how strangers fall against the laws of a city or culture and learn to their dismay what that means
[18:35]  BratCatz Lyon: and for attacking a FM of this port after sentencing should of been his death
[18:35]  Adoveea Rau: Like I said, every one casting judgment now, is telling me law and trials are nothing. Let chaos rule, everyone for themselves
[18:35]  BratCatz Lyon: how can you trust a man that attacks after a trail to work in the tarn house a man that wanted to take you away on a tarn and now wants to court you
[18:35]  Raggsguy Escape: listens silently to everyones speak
[18:35]  Saitin Ansome reachs out cupping her hands as he takes the wine from her ,thank you girl you have done very well you may tend to the others now, he lifts the cup to his lips and sips at his wine
[18:35]  BratCatz Lyon: you think you are safe?
[18:35]  Adoveea Rau: My issue is about the law
[18:35]  Kira Sciavo: yes Master, thank you
[18:35]  BratCatz Lyon: and he broke it yet again
[18:35]  Revenge Sempati: what law applies to a stranger?
[18:35]  Adoveea Rau: and it's process Lady Lyon
[18:36]  BratCatz Lyon: but he broke the law again after the ruling
[18:36]  Adoveea Rau: they walk into our lands , we require they follow our laws
[18:36]  BratCatz Lyon: what is his sentence for that?
[18:36]  Kira Sciavo: Master, may I serve you?
[18:36]  Adoveea Rau: Shall we hear also? no whipping? did that mean our warriors ignored the law too?
[18:36]  BratCatz Lyon: do not interrupt Kira can you not see he is talking?
[18:36]  Kira Sciavo: yes Mistress
[18:36]  Saitin Ansome: Dove the law is being unforced and the sentence carried out that doesn't mean the companion has to be pleased about the findings or that he cant seek revenge
[18:36]  Adoveea Rau: a waste of time to have court, law, sentence, everyone ignores it
[18:37]  Revenge Sempati: He attacks a woman of the Port, then attacks the Warriors. That is death in my eyes, who did the Magistrate order to carry out the whipping? I was not present
[18:37]  Saitin Ansome: I wasn't there so I don't know
[18:37]  Adoveea Rau: Revenge,. your words right there are why there are magistrates, courts and laws
[18:37]  Vin Sosa: the red caste
[18:37]  BratCatz Lyon: Dove his little petty sentence was carried out i mean i am a mere woman one that can be man handled so what difference does it make he got what men feel is just my issue is that he ATTACKED after that what about DRAGO and HIS wounds and HONOR?
[18:37]  Revenge Sempati waves his hand at Kira, clearly in a foul mood
[18:37]  BratCatz Lyon: what is talked about here is AFTER THAT TRAIL
[18:38]  Adoveea Rau: to prevent personal routines
[18:38]  Journey Otoole knows but keeps her mouth shut to keep out of trouble
[18:38]  BratCatz Lyon: something you have no place in commenting on
[18:38]  Adoveea Rau: Lyon? if that issue was to be dealt with , that was the men's issue to deal with isn't it? they didn't
[18:38]  Revenge Sempati: I have never met a Magistrate that was of any use. When I deal with the enemy it is my codes that determine my actions, not some useless words on parchment.
[18:38]  Adoveea Rau: just as it seems they ignored the public whipping. Oh so again
[18:38]  Saitin Ansome sings softly "Oh happy days"
[18:38]  Adoveea Rau: Laws of a city mean nothing
[18:39]  BratCatz Lyon: well the commander has been gone and now you dare to emasculate his dealing with his own men?
[18:39]  Adoveea Rau: No, I merely point out about how the law is and what is it supposed to mean to a city, village, port, whatever, no one is above the law, except an Ubar
[18:40]  BratCatz Lyon: he hit the commanders companion... he got little whipping for it and gets to flirt with you and work off his gold. but he injured Drago gravely
and has not paid for that
[18:40]  Adoveea Rau: I don't flirt and that's a slander on me. thank you very much Aunt
[18:40]  BratCatz Lyon: he has asked for your hand in companionship and i watched him flirt with you
[18:40]  Adoveea Rau: And I did not respond. Now care to continue in this?
[18:40]  Revenge Sempati: I never heard of giving a stranger the full rights and privileges of homestone after assaulting women and warriors of a homestone. But I guess I am far too old for this world.
[18:41]  Adoveea Rau quietly says "Reno said he was to talk to you, that is all that is known
[18:41]  Saitin Ansome whispers to Ginger should we slide on out with out them noticeing ,he grins
[18:41]  BratCatz Lyon: nor did i say at any time that you flirted with him so where you get slander is beyond me
[18:42]  Ginger Shamrock whispers back... "no dear... this is interesting, we should stay and listen"
[18:42]  BratCatz Lyon: the man is youth scum of this world and is given graces where they are not due
[18:42]  Adoveea Rau: the phrase * gets to flirt with you" implies a flirtation accepted or acknowledged
[18:42]  Saitin Ansome chuckles I can see the claws coming out soon
[18:43]  Revenge Sempati: as you said before. This man comes to the Port, creates issues bruised my woman, injured my men to which he is tried and punished, and according to you I am expected to train him?
[18:43]  BratCatz Lyon: see it as you may perhaps you wouldn't jump to slander comments if you indeed were applaud by him.... or even allow him in your presence to work of such a debt if you didn't fancy him.... i do recall you stood up to defend him at the trial.... so maybe there is more then then you wish to let known
[18:43]  Adoveea Rau glances at the man in blue
[18:43]  Jakes Aeon: Tal Sir
[18:43]  BratCatz Lyon: why should he work for you for a debt against ME!
[18:43]  Jakes Aeon: Sirs'
[18:43]  Jakes Aeon: Tal Ladies
[18:44]  Vin Sosa nods , Sir
[18:44]  Saitin Ansome whispers to Ginger we could always take them to the arena and hand them fry pans couldn't we,grins
[18:44]  BratCatz Lyon: Tal Sir
[18:44]  Adoveea Rau coldly says to Lyon "there is death often in the tarn house, not life, remember that, he's flying untrained tarns"
[18:44]  Revenge Sempati slowly turns his head to look at the man, his manner and tone portrayal one of cold anger "Tal Sir."
[18:45]  Saitin Ansome trys not to laugh at what Dove just said
[18:45]  Adoveea Rau finishes with a mirror flat look at her aunt
[18:45]  BratCatz Lyon waves her hands dismissively.... one could be so lucky to see such.... i fail to believe it will happen that way the man needs to be working off debt to Ven and the scarlet of this port not in the luxury of a fine woman to look at
[18:46]  Saitin Ansome whispers from what I hear he was flying untrained tarns before he smacked her in the mouth so if you ask me its not a punishment his doing what he wanted to do in the first place
[18:46]  Adoveea Rau shrugs "then do it that way, I do not care, I offered for him to work at the house in order to get someone to test the tarns"
[18:46]  BratCatz Lyon: as far as i am concerned i will speak no longer on this dishonorable subject... my face will heal... but the man wont if he ever comes withint my space again
[18:46]  Adoveea Rau shrugs "you are within your codes not to heal someone not of the port, nothing wrong with that "
[18:47]  Saitin Ansome looks to the stranger Tal sir
[18:47]  BratCatz Lyon: dayum straight i will watch him bleed as i promised him
[18:47]  Jakes Aeon smiles watching them all talk over someone smiling widely as I do
[18:48]  Revenge Sempati growls low "Enough, the man will be wise to stay away from me, I have little use for such men under my command."
[18:48]  Adoveea Rau shrugs again, it shows that she doesn't care about that or the fate of the man if he gets injured
[18:48]  Saitin Ansome: well I am going back to my paper working the office its been amuseing if you will all excuse me
[18:48]  BratCatz Lyon she doesn't even dignified such ludicrous with a response
[18:49]  Saitin Ansome: I wish you all well
[18:49]  Raggsguy Escape: au ye saitin
[18:49]  Journey Otoole: well wishes Master
[18:49]  Raggsguy Escape salutes!
[18:49]  Saitin Ansome lets gingers hand go ill be back soon my love he whispers
[18:49]  Revenge Sempati looks to the man in blue beside him, speaking in a harsh gruff tone "Something we can do for you Sir?"
[18:50]  Jakes Aeon: just simply observing
[18:50]  Ginger Shamrock: see you soon love.... don't get any paper cuts... *grins*
[18:50]  Saitin Ansome turns and heads out
[18:50]  Saitin Ansome slaps Gingers ass as he walks off for her remark
[18:50]  Ginger Shamrock frowns at him.. "Ow!"
[18:52]  Adoveea Rau frowns after the man in blue "hmm "
[18:52]  Journey Otoole: may i serve You my Master?
[18:53]  Reno Beattie looks to the Commander "Ven, I am sure your companion has made you aware of what happened the other day with the taharian"
[18:53]  Revenge Sempati looks back to Dove "But if you suitor or indentured servant comes near Lyon or myself he will die. If the council forces me to accept him to the scarlet I will simply retire and deal with matter as I see fit. I might serve this homestone, but it is not the one I am sworn."
[18:53]  Adoveea Rau: I said no such thing to you Sir, my exact words were that my Father said he was to see you
[18:53]  Revenge Sempati: and I will kill hiom
[18:53]  Reno Beattie: Aye, the man is to see the Commander.....what he does with him is his choice
[18:54]  Adoveea Rau: and that is where *shrug* I see someone killed for something that the law determined the sentence upoon and done for. and so the law is ignored. gives a shrug "why bother with laws
[18:55]  Revenge Sempati: Then do not force my hand
[18:55]  Adoveea Rau: I have done nothing Sir but state what my father said
[18:55]  Reno Beattie shrugs "I can assure you adopted daughter, a man hits your Mother or even you for that matter....I will kill them with My bare hands... I will not dictate to a Warrior as to how to protect his own"
[18:55]  Revenge Sempati: My codes are above city laws. He attacked citizens of this Port, that is death. period.

And I am sorry to have missed Part III of a wonderful rp....all growing out of the visit of a comtemptable stranger to the Tarn House...which is where I always go for a little excitement any time of day or night!  With 20/20 hindsight and a recognition that I was not involved in such an intense rp I offer my view:

Both sides have made their case on the law and their caste and with some difficult choices indeed...all somewhat affected by their IC connection to what happened and to whom and to what was decided.  Vin could certainly have killed the stranger as soon as he drew his steel against Drago...and the law of the Port and Gor would have been served and no Magistrate would have been needed as such.

As Vin took the matter to a Magistrate, the ruling of the Magistrate then holds for what punishment, if any, was called for by both of the stranger's actions - the slapping of  Lady Lyon and the attack on Drago.  His sentence of 25 lashes and 5 gold is rather light and with the attack on Drago seemingly overlooked. To be impaled would not have been out of line. But such was his ruling and that is what stands if there are laws to be followed.

Rev though can still seek justice for what the stranger did to his FC and to his scarlet.  If he kills the man outside of the walls of Port then there are no issues for us to address. If he does this within the walls of our Port he would be subject to a decision as to whether his actions broke the law by going beyond what the Magistrate had so determined.

As a twist to this all, what protection of the Port's laws could Rev expect if the port is not his homestone (as I thought it was)? Rev is certainly no stranger, he is pledged to protect VVP and holds the position of Commander but as he stated:

[18:53]  Revenge Sempati looks back to Dove "But if you suitor or indentured servant comes near Lyon or myself he will die. If the council forces me to accept him to the scarlet I will simply retire and deal with matter as I see fit. I might serve this homestone, but it is not the one I am sworn."

But then again...the Magistrate was not of our homestone and so to what degree would his ruling stand if (better yet...when!) Rev gets his justice?

Is Part IV coming soon...?

To clarify the homestone matter, Ven's homestone is that of Cardonicus.  Misfortune that caused that city to sink is what brought him and his household to Vosk Valley, and that is the Cardonicus homestone he has pledged upon.
Ven did give an oath to protect the homestone and the citizens of Vosk Valley as his adopted home, second only to that of Cardonicus.  However, Ven has a long and bitter history of which he rarely speaks about anymore, but it is why he is the way he is.

On OOC level, it seems that anything that Ven does in regards to this now will only be seen as an act of revenge.  As for justice, that vanished the moment a stranger was permitted to attack two people, and allowed to leave with his weapons....oh, and a job in the Tarn House.  For a culture that impales outlaws when caught merely for being outlaws, it seems laughable a man that harms citizens is given a minor discipline of 25 lashes and a fine.  I guess if we capture any Torvies that come calling to destroy the PK temple, we just give them a spanking and a job cleaning fish.

Sure hope to see the next part.
Great isn't all this?
Just seeing what is law and what are caste codes is fascinating.
I admit freely in this roleplay I'm trying to help roleplayers learn and think about why we have laws for our places and what roleplaying actions out in courts with sentences should mean.

The other part about Drago being attacked and the sentence not being carried out are an issue that hasn't been looked into, and inquiries about that have to be looked into-that was not addressed by court or anyone in charge of the prisoner...

Dove didn't care what happened to the stranger -see routines of indifference and telling Lyon "your codes say you don't have to heal his injuries", and considered working at the tarn house a death sentence.
Psst heads up ooc information:..what no one has seen or heard about in roleplay is Dove getting advice from Bratz Lyon a week before any of  this happened, and telling Lyon she had a crush on a tarnsmen who has visited the tarnhouse, and sobbing out "he doesn't know I'm alive". Lyon advised her on how to act and what to do. (bet that made folks blink muahaha)

that is everyones complaint, and that the port lacks a full red caste with full understanding of what the duties are and the confidence to do what is right by men of gor. All that sandman has learned is he can behave anyway he wants and a judgement rules that wasnt carried out and he gets to train in the tarn house the main reason he came, fully armed as a free man instead of a prisoner in chains to work off his debt. The whole part of punishment is to do just that PUNISH.. and there has been no follow through for his punishment. All the men of the port has hit the nail on the head, the man should be impaled for his crimes against the port. however many men like VIN was TOLD he was unable to follow through and kill the man due to laws and courts. He has been left with his weapons allowed to come and go... doesnt sound like a prisoner to me at all. But its not for a mere woman to say or dictate it is up to the MEN of the port to follow through. Unfortunatly our Commander... or should i say the Commander we had in place since he has stepped down, Has to work in real too many hours a week and has been given zero communication IC about what has taken place. How could he do his job as commander to repremand the men that didnt do their job correctly if in char he has no communication. Even the High Captain Raggs was COMPLETELY unaware of the events. not much anyone can do without the expressed communication of players IC. and since when can a woman that was not involved with the crime suggest how a debt to the port can be fullfilled? Does that fall back on the Magistrate that over seen the hearing? But again that man was not a man of the port. The players involved needed to follow through with communication and see that the right thing was carried out. Basically time for the Men to pick up the ball... Admin, Scarlet, Gaurds, Magistrate ect ... the men of the port. Also time for the Men of the port to put women in thier places when they interfer with the work of men. I for one did not get involved when the men left him armed and brought him to trail armed and unbound... IC I was told to allow the men to do their job... it is not my place to speak out and question the men in power... ooc were things overlooked? Oh yes they were... was punishment carried out as ordered? No it wasnt... the question is ... what are the Men of the Vosk Valley Port going to do about it?  I look forward to the continued RP and IC Lyon will be hiding in her home until she knows the threat of this man has ended. She is not safe now at the port knowing he can come and go armed for she is the one that brought him to trail to pass judgement on him breaking the laws.

I'll answer that about working at the tarnhouse as punishment

Taking  on the responsibility of other players roleplay and dealing with someone, what hours they are on,  moving the roleplay along, etc. is a rough routine for many, they have their own roleplay and priorities.
In roleplay, a court fine was given of 5 gold. The stranger of course, doesn't have those prim coins.

From the Trial

[2010/08/06 12:50]  Shayne Aridian: Therefore, I find Bayard Naxos guilty of assault and battery as he confessed and sentence him to receive 25 lashes on his bare back publically administered. In addition, he is to pay a fine of 5 gold to the city as a reminder that youth only leads to the wealth of knowledge when its impulses are overruled with the wisdom of maturity
[2010/08/06 12:52]  Bayard Naxos: then 5 gold only I would rather do that spending time in the tarn house paying of my debt.
[2010/08/06 12:53]  Shayne Aridian: what you prefer is of no concern to me, Bayard
[2010/08/06 12:53]  Bayard Naxos: hell make it 10 gold to repair her bleeding mouth
[2010/08/06 12:53]  Shayne Aridian: The Rarii of the town will take him into cusgtody and administer the sentence at a convenient time
[2010/08/06 12:53]  Vin Sosa: you don't get the idea do you
[2010/08/06 12:53]  Adoveea Rau looks rather startled then thoughtful "let him take the lashes, and as for payment, your honor I would take his dept into the tarn house, and he can work it out"

Action is taken by Dove to resolve this idea of how the man can resolve the punishment to the town, in labor.
OOCWise: No one else stepped up to do something about this fine debt owed to the Port,. I pay salaries and commissions to other players, and there at the sim constantly, so I can handle the responsiblity of the roleplayer and  this roleplay issue by having player in working at the tarn house, and oocwise assist that roleplayer to learn more about roleplaying in Gor.

From Trial Aftermath -Roleplayers speaking about it:

Action of Dove is to state she took on the debt to have someone test the tarns
OOCWise: I'm telling other roleplayers, take on the responsiblity of this roleplayer then, roleplaying with them and the debt in roleplay. I threw it open for anyone to take up and work with them.
*Grin* A few know what testing a flight program is like. It's fly the tarn, I adjust the program, you fly it again, over and over for a few hours at a time tell me exactly what's wrong or what needs improvement. If you want to do other things in roleplay, you don't get to, you're testing out the tarn. It's why tarnsmen test for a short time and run off, they want to do something else. Roleplay wise you're training a tarn, OOCwise: you're testing a program over and over and over...*zzzzzz*.

Posting rp's that take place in VVP here on this web site are suppossed to serve as a way of our people knowing what happens when they are not in-world.  It is hard for everyone to know what happens when everyone's time in SL is sporadic covering many RL time zones and RL life in general.  I have suggested that people send out periodic notices to everyone in the VVP group about major events that occur so at least they are aware of them and everything happening around them.
Next time I am in I will remind folks to sign up and visit this site to stay informed.

I guess this is where different peoples approaches come into play.  Myself, I consider anything in the forums pretty much as OOC information and therefore won't use it to drive or influence Ven's actions.
It is nice to keep people in the loop, however the slippery slope is that it soon becomes "Oh, just go read the forums" instead of having actually interaction and communication in game.  It is the same with notices, one can rely too heavily on them and they either get ignored or take over everything you do.

I highly agree with both Mercy and Ven the forums are for ooc information to keep you in the loop but communication always lacks in every city in role play and hopefully people can learn that its vital and needs to flow from player to player besides it simply adds to more RP amoung players to hear the "gossip" of the day and then lead a player to where he or she needs to go to gather the information in role play. Obviously players are going to be on different time zones, real life always takes presidence there is nothing wrong with writting a scroll out in role play and leaving it for a player as a "report of daily happenings" so that when players do return they are not without knowledge of what has happened. I know I require such communication in the Infirmary when physicans and apprentices do anything I am to be made aware of this.. it adds to RP for inventory flexes and helps me to carry on the RP of follow up care for players. It should be done with all the castes and players to simply do a Report of important facts for things to continue to Role. Nothing worse then having to take a few days off of the game cause of RL work or obligations and coming back flooded to massive IMs and chat text just so you know where to start your day it henders being able to actually role. just food for thought...

Well said men! I look forward to the continuation of our ongoing stories.... and lets not forget about the numerous scouts showing up from the north and looking over the port... if you see them... communicate to others make them aware ... harsh times are coming and it should be fun for all!!!

Really I personally find notecards are a royal pain in the ...*ahem*. I tend to hit delete delete upon getting any.
Rather do catch up with forums, or roleplayer themselves, then have to sit and read a ton of notecards, the bane of many tedious hours for many players.

Yes notecards are a pain, but for me necessary evil because apart from the gossip I get from Lyon the rare NC is the only thing that spurs me to investigate matters that occurred in the sim.  Even the forum only highlights certain events, much of what I need to know on a regular basis to make decisions never makes it that far, and much is overlooked.  However it seems it is expected that everyone runs up to every single person and asks them about everything that occurred during the day, not a very productive usage of time.  I used to send notices to warriors regarding city gossip or talk around the hall for them to be aware of but past experience taught me majority of that gets ignored anyway.

As I keep getting reminded, it is just a game for fun time and such tedious details make it more like a job.  Personally I prefer a dozen notecards summarizing a days events than be bombarded with bullshit everytime I log in over stuff I have no idea happened and being told the my men and I are not doing our duty.
yeahhh..the end is a bit of a rant.

In my thoughts the man should have been enslaved for his crimes as any common criminal, especially do to the fact that he was has to work off a debt to the city.  Being enslaved for his crimes would also restrict him to the city, not allow him to carry weapons and also force him to show respect to the city.  That is since it was not the sentence of the court to put him to death. As far as Ven's arguement about killing him, that is fully within his right because, the man did dishonor his Free companion and his house.  Honor Debts do run long and strong, tho if the man was enslaved then he would no longer fall under the codes of honor as he would be a slave.  I also agree with the statement that he should not be able to roam free and armed especially after making two attacks on the citizens of the port. Since he was not jailed nor enslaved nothing forces him to pay his debts nor stops him from just leaving the village or even attacking another citizen of the city.  I am a firm believer in allowing one to learn from his mistakes but it is unfortanately that he did not, so it is simple that he can not learn nor should be allowed to be given the chance to attack again. It seems his attacks on citizens are getting bolder and bolder, what is next? Will we allow him to go as far as killing a citizen or sexually assualting a free woman. Think of it this way, when an animal attacks people it is killed, not given a chance to keep attacking people.  We have had several attacks on different citizens of the city by people not of the city, a free woman slapped, a warrior attacked and a free woman kidnapped and enslaved.  We have to make it clear that the citizens of the village are not free targets to allow anyone to harm or kill.
