... name it as you wish.

It is a long one but, well haste makes waste.  Wink

[11:08] Sophiaa Farella: Tal Free
[11:08] Laja DeCuir: Tal Sophiaa*smiles warmly
[11:08] Sigiher Jacobus: Tal Ladies and Scribes one and all
[11:08] Sophiaa Farella: how nice to see you Laja!
[11:09] Laja DeCuir: Tal Sir
[11:09] Akasha Zane nods to Man and Lady "tal"
[11:09] Laja DeCuir: same to me Sophiaa
[11:09] Sophiaa Farella: and Akasha! I havent seen you in ages dear!
[11:09] Isabella Bergiere smiles and says "Tal" softly to the couple
[11:09] Laja DeCuir: I am sure we will find all a place in the libary
[11:10] Akasha Zane smiles "its great to see you Lady, I was away for some time"
[11:10] Laja DeCuir enters the libary. Slowly she takes one step after another, the fabric of her dress rustles gently with every move she makes. It is the blue of her robes that gives her in combination with her long red hair a special vibrancy.
[11:10] Laja DeCuir has poise and her attitude is affected by her pride. Her eyes wander across the seats and she sits down.
[11:11] Sophiaa Farella: ((ut oh..he'll be back))
[11:11] Laja DeCuir looks to the door of the libary waiting for the Magistrate to enter.
[11:12] Akasha Zane after she followed Chief Scribe she looked after herself to see does Lady Sophiaa and man she didnt knew follow but not seeing them she sit down silently
[11:12] Isabella Bergiere follows Laja in and takes a seat on a soft cushion next to her, feeling supported by the presence of the two other scribes.
[11:13] Laja DeCuir smiles to Sophiaa
[11:14] Laja DeCuir: take a seat dear Lady
[11:14] Laja DeCuir grins impishly as she realises three red heads

We had to wait for Sigihers return. In the meantime we had a short visit by Lady Arianwen who brought my wages. I deleted this one to shorten the chatlog a lil.

[11:20] Laja DeCuir looks to the door of the libary still waiting for the Magistrate to enter.
[11:21] Laja DeCuir looks on to the Magistrate's gaze and adresses him with a soft and warm voice "Tal again Sir Magistrate!" she bows her head gently, just a lil to show him respect and recovers her poise.
[11:21] Sophiaa Farella turned, hearing some one approach..she smiled warmly, watching her FC find his seat
[11:21] Arianwen Mercy: well I suppose I whoudl let you be . smiles have a wonderful day .
[11:22] Sigiher Jacobus: walking into the room I take a seat and lean back into the chair smiling to the women in the room saying "Tal Free glad to see you all"
[11:22] Akasha Zane smiles to Ari "it is always pleasure to see you" she then look at Man and nods to him slowly
[11:22] Laja DeCuir: same to you Lady and thank you very much
[11:22] Arianwen Mercy: I will see you in the bank tomorrow Magiatrate I hope concerningt that money .
[11:22] Laja DeCuir: "Dear Sir Magistrate", she continues "I think you did reckon on my visit or at least you are not surprised. It is about the case of our Scribe Bella I need to talk to you about."
[11:23] Laja DeCuir: well*smiles impishly...it is more a sit in we have than a visit but it is much better this way
[11:23] Laja DeCuir pauses for an Ihn, her fingers slide over the fabric of her dress before she rummages in her pouch and pulls a scroll.
[11:24] Laja DeCuir pauses for an Ihn, her fingers slide over the fabric of her dress before she rummages in her pouch and pulls a scroll. "This..." she lifts her hand with the scroll "...is the last will of Bellas father I witnessed years ago. As far as I am informed you did receive a copy of that scroll before the trial started. However.." she waves aside..."let me begin with a ... question.
[11:25] Laja DeCuir: "You know that this scroll was signed by myself. You know that I am the Chief Scribe of Treve assigned by the High Council. When you showed me up in front of the Citizens who joined your trail, it seems you forgot that...lil...fact."*lifts her hand turning her palm towards him as to show that she would not wish to be interrupted and continues her speech.
[11:26] Laja DeCuir: "I am sure that you did not want to say, that the Chief Scribe that leads the Caste you are a member of, is not aware of the trevan laws nor wouldn't respect them. But at first blush you acted in a manner like you have doubts on the Chief Scribes integrity. The woman who holds the highest position in your caste and touched the same home stone as you did. That's irritating Sir and I think we need to get that affront sorted" she pauses and peers to the Magistrate.
[11:28] Laja DeCuir straightens her back as the Magsitrate does say nothing and continues "You know Sir, don't get me wrong but in case you didn't wanted to show me up maybe it would have been a good choice to cite me to the trail to get my testimony or talk to me prior to that. Especially because you had to judge over a case that affect the trevan Blue Caste. But well ... "
[11:29] Sigiher Jacobus: looks to the chief scribe smiling as she brings up all this material not looking flustered or upset in the least having expected the politics to arrive in his caste sooner or laster he waits a few minutes letting her words settle before speaking "on the contrary Lady Decuir I did not contradict you nor did I say you were incorrect. You did indeed sign a scroll of a citizen of Port Kar signifying that the scroll was true and correct for that citizen. However, he was not a citizen of Treve. One can hardly expect the laws of other cities to be held as true within our city or to allow their citizens to legislate our laws from outside regardless of the skill or level of the scribe they might hire
[11:29] Laja DeCuir smiles softly and takes a deep breath, beiing aware that this man is too much into a striving for power than to be able to respect her words. Also she knows, that it wouldn't lead to a solution to discuss the past she continues: "I am sure we can get all sorted and don't need to bother our Ubar or Ubara with it. As far as I know the trial was vever brought to an end and so we have a chance to get it solved still. What do you think Sir?" again she pauses, places her hands and the scroll in her lap and waits patiently for a answer which will hopefully be acceptable for her harmed honor.
[11:31] Isabella Bergiere listens quietly, to Laja nodding her head to her words
[11:32] Laja DeCuir: Well Sir I am afraid you are a lil wrong. I did not only seal a scroll of a man of Port Kar I sealed a scroll for a Citizen of Treve*points to her side "for that Lady here"
[11:33] Laja DeCuir: "As the Chief Scribe I had to care for her because she was of my or better...of the trevan blue Caste"
[11:34] Sigiher Jacobus: smiles back and continues "let us for example assume that I am hired in the city of Ar to litigate or to sign legal documents within the city of Ar. The man of Ar could not expect his actions or decrees to affect the people or citizens of Treve as everyone knows that the laws within the city of Ar end at her walls, just as the laws of Treve end at the very walls of Treve. In effect only merchant laws and weights such as they are might be extended beyond a city if they are agreed upon by other cities or principalities
[11:34] Laja DeCuir: So those papers are part of HER history meant to be set up for her not for the man himself who stepped in the land of dust anyway
[11:35] Laja DeCuir: Sir. I have the impression that you don't want to understand me. Are you involved somehow with the hous of Sir Cor?
[11:35] Laja DeCuir: you are right and that is not the point we need to discuss Sirt
[11:35] Isabella Bergiere nods fervently at Laja's logic and, feeling braver in company throws Sigiher a small look
[11:36] Sigiher Jacobus: Chief Scribe, I understand the intent of the man who is in the city of dust was to effect the policies and laws and abilities of the citizens of Treve. I simply cannot allow for men outside the city who are not citizens to be allowed to dictate our laws and people in even the smallest thing, for to do so would open a series of issues one legally or physically would hardly wish to consider
[11:36] Laja DeCuir: what is about the Citizen that lived within our walls, that Lady here, is she not protected by our laws?
[11:37] Laja DeCuir: she needed a document of Treve to get her fathers will noted. She came to me and because I don't accept papers from Port Kar I did travel to Kar by myself
[11:37] Laja DeCuir: and you want to tell me now that this is not a valid document?
[11:38] Laja DeCuir: that is ridiculous
[11:38] Sigiher Jacobus: the Lady in question did state she was a citizen of Treve as did the men who were arguing for her guardianship. If you wish to say a legal document signed outside of Treve may affect those citizens within Treve I shall go to the Magistrate of Ar and ask him to sign slave warrants for every Free Woman within the city both companioned and single.
[11:38] Sigiher Jacobus: let us see how the men of Treve would react to this decree
[11:39] Isabella Bergiere rolls her eyes slightly at his logic
[11:39] Laja DeCuir shakes her head about this subourness that sits at the other side of the table
[11:39] Sigiher Jacobus: Chief Scribe I am asked to interpret the laws of the city of Treve, not those of Port Kar even if they are signed by a scribe of Treve
[11:39] Laja DeCuir: Sir ... this example you gave is not really fitting
[11:39] Sigiher Jacobus: the laws of Port Kar belong to the city of Port Kar
[11:40] Sigiher Jacobus: and the citizens of Port Kar belong to that city and its laws
[11:40] Laja DeCuir: we did not signed a document of Port Kar
[11:40] Sophiaa FarellaSophiaa Farella's back stiffened as her hackles rose..her FC's logic was clear, concise and correct..she, of course, held her tongue, knowing better than to interfer in the matters of his caste
[11:40] Laja DeCuir: we did sign a paper of Treve
[11:41] Laja DeCuir: Let me try to summarise Sir. You are absolutely right adn it is not my intention to change the laws or carry those outside our walls or take others inside
[11:42] Sigiher Jacobus: no Chief Scribe, you signed a document of a man who left Treve and swore to Port Kar and then who wished his wishes of a man of Port Kar to reflect upon those of Treve, so in a maneuver of supreme legal manipulation hired the chief scribe of Treve to sign his documents hoping then they would have legal presidence over the free of Treve.
[11:42] Laja DeCuir: but if I - under trevan law - get some papers done for a trevan Citizen I expect that those are valid
[11:42] Laja DeCuir: and what is with the girl aat that time who was in the caareing of a trevan Citzen, does her faith count nothing?
[11:43] Laja DeCuir: you focus only on that man
[11:43] Laja DeCuir: what is with us wiht the citizens you - as a Magistrate - have to care of?
[11:43] Isabella BergiereIsabella Bergiere murmers, "Indeed. Do my rights matter not"
[11:45] Laja DeCuir: Tell me what Lady galiah bergiere - a trevan Lady - should have done instead of getting me to Port Kar?
[11:46] Sigiher Jacobus: Lady the issue at hand was between men and men rule Gor, unless you wish to challenge that as well? You see it was a matter of guardianship versus protectorship within the city of Treve. Those men each had their rights as citizens of Treve. The Lady was not the eldest member of the family who was a male within the city of Treve. It was not her right to assume the powers and abilities of the family for the men unless there was no single living male of the entire line available, which I know not to be the case
[11:46] Laja DeCuir raises her eybrow and looks to Isabella, is that true Lady?
[11:47] Isabella Bergiere nods, "It is true now, but it was not true at the time, Cor Tarrant has only very recently made himself known"
[11:48] Sigiher Jacobus: is it then true that you are related to the Ubara of Treve and claim her to be a member of your family?
[11:48] Laja DeCuir: so *turns her head back to the Magistrate...Please tell me what she should have done?
[11:48] Isabella Bergiere: i claim nothing. The ubara's mother and my mother are infact sisters.
[11:49] Laja DeCuir: at the time the Lady was responsible, Cor was not known.
[11:49] Laja DeCuir: he didn't know that either
[11:49] Sophiaa FarellaSophiaa Farella stood, wanting to cause as little disruption as possible..but she had to leave, a prior commitment forcing her hand.."if you all will excuse me..I have something I must tend to..I wish you all well" she said then looked at her FC.."I will return as soon as possible my Lord"
[11:49] Sigiher Jacobus: correct so when the Ubara companioned the Ubar of Treve she gave family rights to him as her companion. Thus when Cor Tarrant was not known, if no older direct male member of that family was living, then the Ubar would have been the eldest member
[11:49] Sigiher Jacobus: yes my companion, I look forward to your return
[11:49] Laja DeCuirLaja DeCuir smiles...be well Lady
[11:51] Akasha ZaneAkasha Zane notice Sophiaa stand and she smiles with a nod to her, seeing her leaving she return her focus on Magistrate and Chief Scribe listening carefully and looking from time to time to Bella
[11:51] Laja DeCuir: Did you find out if this was before or after the protector ship was set up Sir?
[11:51] Sigiher Jacobus: very well if that relationship and the other relationship was not known then she entered into the city of Treve without an eldest male member of the city in which case the eldest male member of her caste or if that was not available, then the Ubar himself again would represent her in any situation
[11:53] Isabella Bergiere frowns, "I thought tht it was then my right to select a protector, as I have to do again now Cor is enslaved"
[11:54] Sigiher Jacobus: if a lady moved from outside Treve to Treve and she swore to the homestone, and lets say her father was of Port Kar. If her father demanded her to FC a man outside of Treve would she listen to the Homestone and its rights and privilages or would she go agaisnt her very homestone and its powers, and leave it?
[11:54] Sigiher Jacobus: the lady stated at the beginning of the inquiry in court that she was a citizen of Treve with all its rights and privilages
[11:55] Laja DeCuir: well she would have to follow her home stone even if the emotional band of the relation ship to her father might be strong
[11:55] Sigiher Jacobus: she had every opportunity to tell me she wished rather to uphold the rights and laws of Port Kar
[11:55] Sigiher Jacobus: correct Chief Scribe, her homestone would come first
[11:55] Sigiher Jacobus: thus if she had no eldest member of her family within the homestone
[11:55] Sigiher Jacobus: and did not know of them
[11:55] Laja DeCuir: Sir, she didn't even have a chance to stay for her rights before everything wents out of order
[11:55] Sigiher Jacobus: then the eldest member of her caste
[11:55] Isabella Bergiere shakes her head, "I do not with to uphold the rights and laws of Port Kar - I simply wish to follow my father's last will!"
[11:55] Isabella Bergiere: *wish
[11:55] Sigiher Jacobus: or the highest ranking man past that would speak for her
[11:56] Sigiher Jacobus: if you wish to hold the will of a man of Port Kar over the will of the Ubar and the Homestone of Treve
[11:56] Laja DeCuir: if the eldest member of her caste is the chief scribe what will you say then...it doesn't work because she is a woman?
[11:56] Sigiher Jacobus: then I shall arrest you as a disident of Port Kar
[11:57] Sigiher Jacobus: if it is a woman that is the eldest of the caste, then it would fall on the highest ranking man of the city above her, which would be the Ubar
[11:57] Sigiher Jacobus: as I said
[11:57] Laja DeCuir: well*takes a deep breath
[11:57] Laja DeCuir: In this case we need to let the Ubar judge
[11:58] Isabella BergiereIsabella Bergiere looks around in confusion, "Arrest who Sir?"
[11:58] Laja DeCuir: I am sorry dear Sir Magistrate
[11:58] Laja DeCuir touches Isabellas hand...it was just an example hun
[11:58] Isabella Bergiere nods comprehending her suddenly
[11:58] Laja DeCuir turns to Sigiher again...you know Sir
[11:58] Sigiher Jacobus: we would have let the Ubar judge it correct, however now the Lady knows that there is a high ranking scribe in the city who was of her family, Cor Tarrant, and baring his ability to do so, there is also a senior elder member of the caste who would represent her
[11:58] Sigiher Jacobus: myself
[11:58] Sigiher Jacobus: as I am also of the caste of scribes
[11:59] Laja DeCuir laughs
[11:59] Isabella Bergiere looks worriedly to Laja, shaking her head
[11:59] Laja DeCuir: well you are not higher than the Ubar himself
[11:59] Sigiher Jacobus: of course not
[12:00] Sigiher Jacobus: however, will you have the Ubar designated to handle caste business when you have men in the caste of rank who can do so before involving him?
[12:00] Laja DeCuir: and even if you would like to be on power every where I am sure he would not let you decide on his issues
[12:00] Sigiher Jacobus: I am speaking of honor
[12:00] Sigiher Jacobus: not of power
[12:00] Sigiher Jacobus: I care nothing for power despite your beliefs
[12:00] Sigiher Jacobus: it is only honor and law I speak of
[12:00] Sigiher Jacobus: do not insult me again
[12:00] Laja DeCuir: you know Sir, if you would be of honor you would respect the role of the Chief Scribe and respect our Codes we have in the Caste
[12:01] Sigiher Jacobus: I entirely respect our codes and the chief scribe
[12:01] Sigiher Jacobus: however I also respect the law
[12:01] Sigiher Jacobus: and the law speaks first to men
[12:01] Laja DeCuir lays back and glowers at him
[12:01] Sigiher Jacobus: she does not have an eldest of the family so then it would be first the eldest male member of her caste
[12:01] Sigiher Jacobus: and then if there was no elder member of her caste it would be the Ubar
[12:02] Akasha Zane takes deep breath and look at Bella again feelings sorry for poor Lady
[12:02] Laja DeCuir shakes her head...are you older than Sir Jakes?
[12:02] Sigiher Jacobus: I am his elder in the caste, directly in rank underneath you
[12:02] Sigiher Jacobus: unless you declare him above me in rank
[12:02] Isabella Bergiere speaks up, "Please forgive me but I thought it was the right of a Free Woman to Choose a protector and only if she does not do so will the city administration become responsible?"
[12:03] Isabella Bergiere: If that is the case then I have chosen a protector!
[12:03] Laja DeCuir: that is what we all thought Lady.
[12:03] Laja DeCuir: I thought it would be only the way you - Sir Magistrate - said if she is under age
[12:03] Akasha Zane nods as she agree with both Ladies
[12:04] Sigiher Jacobus: again you are speaking Chief Scribe as if the decisions of women regardless of rank outdo those of men.
[12:04] Laja DeCuir sighs thinking that he surely would find a rule that would place him in charge
[12:04] Sigiher Jacobus: the man of a family being eldest always decide for a woman of the family
[12:04] Carin McBride: shall we see if there is any in the Bank or the Scribery maybe they need something *she looks to the girl with a smile* tal girl
[12:04] Sigiher Jacobus: she does not have an elder man of her family to decide
[12:05] Laja DeCuir waves wiht her hand ...stop please Sir
[12:05] Laja DeCuir: this is getting strange
[12:05] Saphire Kamala: tali looked shyly across and smiled " greetings slave girl"
[12:05] Whisper Whitesong: "i am called whisper, what are your names?" she says politely to the other kajirae
[12:05] Sigiher Jacobus: Chief Scribe I am speaking directly of the laws and rights of women in Gor
[12:05] Isabella Bergiere gives him an imperious look, "but as you are aware I do have a protector, thus I do not need the city to appoint me a guardian"
[12:06] Sigiher Jacobus: Free Women are of course free, but only so long as men defend it and uphold that freedom
[12:06] Saphire Kamala: i am tali pleasure to meet you
[12:06] Laja DeCuir: the way we did handle it in Treve before you took over the laws has always been that ...
[12:06] Carin McBride: I am tasta nice to met you whisper
[12:06] Laja DeCuir: if a woman and a man agreed on protectorship we did set up a contract
[12:06] Sigiher Jacobus: simple because something was done in a particular way did not make it the law nor gorean, nor correct
[12:06] Akasha Zane look at Magistrate shocked, her mouth open as she stared at him
[12:06] Whisper Whitesong smiles, "nice to meet you both. i am still sort of new here, so i like meeting new girls."
[12:06] Laja DeCuir: as we did with Lady Pay and Sir Vic
[12:07] Laja DeCuir: we have a lot of woman in treve who are without a family Sir
[12:07] Sigiher Jacobus: yes, and in those cases the highest ranking caste member should have decided, and baring that the Ubar
[12:07] Laja DeCuir: never forget the trevan theme we are a City of bandits we aren't in the gardens of Ar or whatever...we a like a patchwork ...puzzled
[12:09] Laja DeCuir: not all woman in treve do have a protector, as you know pretty well
[12:09] Laja DeCuir: mostly they haven't, they are protected by the guards and the trevan law...well at least we all thought so
[12:09] Akasha Zane her look now was already scared as she heard him talking, she looked at Laja scared well knowing she was also without family in Treve and she for sure was old and wise enough to decide does she need guard or not, without any man to decide in her name
[12:10] Sigiher Jacobus: Chief Scribe of course we are a city of bandits, and we bandit those outside of Treve
[12:10] Laja DeCuir nods
[12:11] Whisper Whitesong: "Greetings Master"
[12:11] Laja DeCuir: and the trevan law does protect us FW, doesn't it?
[12:11] Carin McBride place herseld in the right stand position then lower her head before whispering "Tal Master"
[12:13] Whisper Whitesong presses the ice pack to her face and half-smiles to the Master
[12:13] Sigiher Jacobus: as I was saying we do bandit those outside of the city, but we do not do so to the citizens of Treve itself, we respect them and uphold them and have laws even if sparse between them which bind us under the homestone and uphold and protect the honor of all of us as citizens
[12:15] Carin McBride: well I will go see if my service is needed
[12:15] Laja DeCuir: yes we do Sir*smiles brightly and straithens her back, lost in thought for an Ihn remembering her touching the home stone...
[12:15] Laja DeCuir: But do you expect all FW having a protector named?
[12:15] Laja DeCuir: Mostly we don't have one
[12:15] Sigiher Jacobus: furthermore the person that the Lady might want to name as protector James Rarius has not been seen
[12:16] Laja DeCuir: why does Bella need one?
[12:16] Sigiher Jacobus: of course and for those women who do not name particular protectors then their elder male family members would do it if in the city, and if not then their elder caste members, and if not then the Ubar and his warriors would do so as they always have
[12:17] Laja DeCuir: yes but they do not have to be nnamed
[12:17] Sigiher Jacobus: it is wise for a Free Woman to have a protector to stop men from simply taking them as companions or if challenges of honor come up to fight in their name so they may not lose honor or more greatly
[12:17] Sigiher Jacobus: no, of course a Lady need not name a protector
[12:17] Laja DeCuir: but just to make it clear to us Sir
[12:18] Sigiher Jacobus: in that case the highest male family member would be it, or if no family, then the highest caste member male, and if not that then the Ubar, who would of course have his warriors to protect the free of the city as they always do
[12:19] Laja DeCuir: in case f.e. I will have to deal with challenges of honor, as I had to do with you*winks to him... it would be enough time still or better then one will judge over me anyway
[12:19] Akasha ZaneAkasha Zane thinks for a moment how he already said same and more and more she was thinking about his words she was realize he keep saying same
[12:19] Sigiher Jacobus: Chief Scribe if you had no protector and no elder family member and if a man challenged your honor then I would be proud to die in your name as I have great knowledge of weapons
[12:20] Laja DeCuir: I always did rely upon my home stone and the men within the walls.
[12:20] Sigiher Jacobus: however if you wished to not have a caste mate watch over you and had no family member or FC
[12:20] Sigiher Jacobus: then yes the Ubar and his warriors would watch over you in general
[12:20] Laja DeCuirLaja DeCuir swallows...Sir you...y..you are of the Scribes...in such a case I would prefer to have a warrior on my side
[12:21] Laja DeCuirLaja DeCuir nods
[12:21] Sigiher Jacobus: I am of the scribes now Chief Scribe, but it was not always so. I trained in Nyoka as a Lt of the Warriors, and prior to that I spent decades in the North, and was 2nd axe of Kassau by rank of arms and might
[12:21] Sigiher Jacobus: and I often defeat some of our men in spars
[12:21] Sigiher Jacobus: even to this day
[12:22] Carin McBride kneels outside the door she had heard voices inside but had gone to the bank first to see if her service was needed, she moved quietly just inside the door she smiled as she saw her Master but remained quietly untill someone noticed her, she had cleaned the Tavern as he asked along with tali now she wanted to serve and well maybe they could use some refreshments well she would atlist ask if they wished it
[12:22] Laja DeCuir smiles benignly...I know Sir
[12:22] Laja DeCuir: I heard rumors...well at least it is good to have a sharp quill and sword in our mid
[12:23] Sigiher Jacobus: to be sure I am no First Sword nor like Malcomb Rarius who are both superb, however, if no warrior was immediately available, and I was, I would think you would take some protection over nothing
[12:23] Laja DeCuirLaja DeCuir realises that carin had entereed the libary...her view softens a bit and she waves to her meaning to get her on her side
[12:24] Laja DeCuir: of course I would and I would be honored
[12:25] Laja DeCuir: Excuse me Sir but the thurst is killing me*rubs her throat...girl get me some water
[12:25] Carin McBride moved to Laja's side smiled at her as she settled next to her then looked across the table to her Master a more bright smile formed her lips still she remained quiet untill spoken to
[12:25] Laja DeCuir looks around awaiting others to order something to drink
[12:25] Sigiher Jacobus: looks to my girl and then to the Chief Scribe and says "I am sure my property would be happy to serve us"
[12:25] Akasha Zane rise her gaze as she heard soft steps and look at girl, at first nothing showing on her face but then she look again, she knew Carin was not longer free but she did not expect to see her, and seeing her on her knees was not something she wanted to see
[12:26] Carin McBride: yes MIstress would be my pleasure *she then looked to the rest to see if they wished something*
[12:26] Laja DeCuir looks to Sigiher ... I was happy to hear that our scribe slave does belong to your chain now
[12:27] Akasha ZaneAkasha Zane looking still at Carin she force herself on smile and says silently "water please"
[12:28] Carin McBride looked to Akasha "yes Mistress" then looked at her Master "would you like some paga My Master?" she asked softly
[12:28] Sigiher Jacobus: takes the paperwork of her sale and slides it over to the Chief Scribe saying "yes I decided I wanted her as Mine and her owner was in a position to sell her for two silver, which I considered a good deal considering her worth to myself and the caste in general as well"
[12:28] Laja DeCuir: back to our issue Sir...if we are all protected under the man of Treve can we agree that Lady Bella is free to name a protector or not?
[12:28] Sigiher Jacobus: if a woman seeks a particular protector then no she would have to speak to her family first
[12:28] Laja DeCuir looks astonished...two silver...well that is a good price
[12:29] Sigiher Jacobus: if she wanted not to name a protector then she would fall under the general protection of the city
[12:30] Sigiher Jacobus: so if the Lady Isabella wishes to name a protector she would ask her family, and if not her family then the eldest male caste member, and if not him then the Ubar
[12:30] Sigiher Jacobus: and she would of course have to ask the eldest male family member
[12:30] Laja DeCuir: So - if I do understand you right - if Bella wants to name a protector she has to talk to her family first. In case she doesn't want to name one she is a FW as every other FW of Treve?
[12:30] Sigiher Jacobus: smiles
[12:30] Sigiher Jacobus: yes of course she is
[12:30] Sigiher Jacobus: she has sworn to the homestone
[12:30] Sigiher Jacobus: every warrior of the city would die for her
[12:31] Carin McBride quickly rises to her feet to get the drinks desided she would bring water to them all in a can "be back in a flash with the drinks" she said
[12:31] Sigiher Jacobus: you understand completely Chief Scribe
[12:31] Sigiher Jacobus: bring me paga in the bowl carin
[12:31] Carin McBride: yes Master
[12:31] Carin McBride: My Master
[12:31] Isabella Bergiere sighs, "As it stands I have no remining male members of family as Cor is enslaved"
[12:32] Sigiher Jacobus: correct so then if you wished a personal protector you would ask me next, and then if there was no male in the caste it would then be Ubar
[12:32] Laja DeCuir: and if she would ... just in case ... like to choose one of the warriors as protector and would ask the Ubar for permission, would his agreement displace the familys will?
[12:32] Sigiher Jacobus: it would be rude to her caste to go over their heads directly to the Ubar
[12:33] Sigiher Jacobus: unless of course she acknowledges that that Ubar is the eldest of her family being her family member Ubara's FC
[12:33] Sigiher Jacobus: in that case the Ubar is her family
[12:33] Laja DeCuir: well but she could do it, couldn't she?
[12:33] Sigiher Jacobus: I would think that she could simply declare the Ubar her eldest male family member since Cor is gone
[12:33] Sigiher Jacobus: as he is the Ubara's FC
[12:33] Laja DeCuir: yes, that is right
[12:34] Sigiher Jacobus: and the Ubara is her family member as well
[12:34] Laja DeCuir: well, that sounds good to me
[12:34] Laja DeCuir looks softly to Isabella...did you hear that Lady?
[12:34] Sigiher Jacobus: but in general if she was not related
[12:34] Isabella BergiereIsabella Bergiere looks to Laja for guidance and nods at her words. she murmers, "Out of the two options presented, the Ubar would be the best option."
[12:34] Sigiher Jacobus: then I would think any caste leader would be insulted
[12:35] Sigiher Jacobus: and any elder caste member if the Lady in question went straight to the Ubar
[12:35] Sigiher Jacobus: and the Ubar himself would be overwhelmed with women
[12:35] Sigiher Jacobus: who he I am sure would handle as he often handles women
[12:35] Sigiher Jacobus: smirks
[12:36] Laja DeCuir: well I am the leader of teh Caste and I would always step towards the council or my Ubar in first place.
[12:36] Isabella BergiereIsabella Bergiere replies somewhat proudly, "Well it is lucky for me then that I am related"
[12:36] Sigiher Jacobus: Chief Scribe you would not let caste business go to the Ubar unless it was necessary
[12:36] Sigiher Jacobus: in this case she is related so she should go to him
[12:36] Sigiher Jacobus: if she acknowledges it to be so
[12:37] Isabella Bergiere: I acknowledge that the Ubara is my cousin
[12:37] Laja DeCuir smiels softly to Sigiher...you know Sir, our Ubar did never handle our woman with disrespect. He always respected the FW as long as those knew how to behave
[12:37] Sigiher Jacobus: of course, and if a bevy of women were always bothering him
[12:37] Sigiher Jacobus: I am sure he would find ways to make sure it stopped
[12:37] Akasha Zane nods on Laja words, she didnt liked way Magistrate talked about their Ubar
[12:38] Sigiher Jacobus: there is a reason for castes and for caste leaders
[12:38] Laja DeCuir: well
[12:38] Carin McBride carefully walked into the scribery with the heavy trey, she place it on the table then grabs the bowl with the chilled paga turn to face her Master with a smile spreading her legs just a little for his pleasure as she lifts the bowl to her lips pressing a kiss upon its side just below the rim, lowering her head before lifting her slender arms up towards him "Masters paga as he desired I prey Master will enjoy his strong drink"
[12:38] Sigiher Jacobus: and I am not saying anything that the Ubar himself would not say. He would not wish to have every FW of the city bothering him for personal protectors
[12:38] Laja DeCuir: the way you did explain it Sir, the role of me as a leader of teh Caste os worth not as much because you decided to rule everything
[12:38] Sigiher Jacobus: and if they did I know he would handle it in a manner that the women might not enjoy
[12:39] Sigiher Jacobus: no again I did not say that, you assumed I did
[12:39] Laja DeCuir: of course our Ubar wouldn't but I am sure this won't happen anyway
[12:39] Sigiher Jacobus: I am not in charge of the caste
[12:39] Isabella BergiereIsabella Bergiere shakes her head visably, not impressed at his veiled threats
[12:39] Sigiher Jacobus: I am simply the Magistrate
[12:40] Sigiher Jacobus: I am speaking specifically of guardian and protectorship laws
[12:40] Laja DeCuir: well but you say that you are the eldest male and you want to be in charge for the important matters in teh caste, won't you?
[12:40] Sigiher Jacobus: not caste laws nor caste leadership
[12:40] Sigiher Jacobus: in matters of guardianship should it come up I would be next in rank under you
[12:41] Isabella Bergiere mutters to herself, "For now"
[12:41] Laja DeCuir: ah well Sir - I am happy that you will let me doing my work again*laughs gently about so much courtesy
[12:41] Sigiher Jacobus: very well Lady Isabella, you wish to outrank me, I shall step down from the caste and step out of the city if you and the chief scribe feel I overstep my bounds and have no honor and wish to say it every chance you have
[12:42] Laja DeCuir: next in rank under me *she repeats his words*
[12:42] Isabella BergiereI shakes her head, "I have no wish to outrank anyone"
[12:42] Laja DeCuir: nor do I
[12:42] Laja DeCuir: again Sir...I think ...
[12:42] Sigiher Jacobus: then stop the insults, I am not insulting you
[12:42] Laja DeCuir: let me say it this way
[12:42] Sigiher Jacobus: I am speaking the plain truth of it
[12:43] Laja DeCuir: in the future it would be awesome if you would show the respect towards me as Chief scribe...I will explain to you how I mean that
[12:43] Sigiher Jacobus: reaches down and takes the paga from the tray from carin's hand tussling her hair and giving her a soft kiss and saying "serve the ladies girl"
[12:44] Carin McBride smiles brightly at him purring softly into his lips before whispering "yes My Master" she grabs the trey then walks carefully over to Laja
[12:45] Laja DeCuir waves aside...nobody is insulting you Sir...I really do appreciate the hard work you do and I am aware that the role of a magistrate is far away of an easy way of gorean life but...
[12:45] Isabella Bergiere sighs again as he seems to overreact to her words, "I am not insulting you at all Sir, only, it seems that you provoke everywhere you go and make enemies at every turn. I do NOT include myself in that group as i have respect for your knowledge but i would also caution you against provoking hot tempered warriors as I have seen you do so very often. This would solely be my advice to you as a friend, or if not friend then colleague at least
[12:46] Laja DeCuir looks to Carin as she cames nearby and smiles to her. Thankful she takes the glas and sips immidiately, feeling the cold water running down her throat...well don girl..that is perfect
[12:47] Laja DeCuir: shhhhh*looks to Isabella and Sigiher..."Please listen." she speaks up with a soft voice
[12:47] Carin McBride lower herself to the rug place the trey on the table infront of Laja grabs one of the goblets then turns to her closing her legs tightly before smiling up at her lifting the vessel over her head "Mistresses chilled water as wished, may it fresg you on this lovely day"
[12:48] Laja DeCuir strokes wiht her hand through Carins her...and continues
[12:48] Sigiher Jacobus: Lady I am not overreacting but stating a simple truth again. Please do not put more or less emotion upon me then I have myself done. Often people will respond with strong emotions to the role and power of the magistrate. I speak with conviction of honor built on decades of knowledge and I speak with a level of consistancy between each person and case so that it is the same for any soul in the city of Treve
[12:48] Laja DeCuir nods..Yes Sir but
[12:49] Laja DeCuir: the critism you have to face at is, that you work a lil singled out not inside our Caste
[12:49] Laja DeCuir: Please ...look
[12:49] Laja DeCuir: we have a case that was brought to you
[12:50] Laja DeCuir: concerning two members of our caste
[12:50] Carin McBride grabs another goblet and moved to Akasha's left side she keeped herself on a fashinable distance from her not wanting to displease her with her precent or her bare frame, with a smile she lifted the vessel over her head towards her "some water for the Mistress as she wished"
[12:51] Laja DeCuir: you never talked to me as the Chief Scribe before you did the trial. Of course you don't need to but I ask you not to show me up in front of the Caste members and the Citizens in teh way it was reported to me afterwards
[12:51] Sigiher Jacobus: yes and as such I could not consult the members of my caste concerning their views because they would have most likely been at the very least assumed to be prejudiced by those outside it. I must be above caste when I am in court and I sometimes will be forced to judge those of our caste though it is not my wish, or rule a dispute between those of our caste as this was the case
[12:51] Akasha Zane smiles down on Carin with soft look "thank you dear" she says softly as she reach for a water from her hands and moving her veil on side takes a sip then look back at her "perfect...."
[12:52] Laja DeCuir: it is sometimes so easy Sir, just a lil talk, a small information and I am sure nothing would have happend and caused that much drama within our rows
[12:53] Carin McBride smiled up at her, she knew her friends had a hard time seeing her like this "always a pleasure MIstress" she said in a soft voice while reaching for the last goblet before resing to her small feet
[12:53] Sigiher Jacobus: I was approached by the Ubara who wished to be lawyer for the Lady Isabella. I went to the Ubara and informed her I would accept her as lawyer if she could do so and set aside her powers and title so as not to influence the trial and those within the courtroom for the duration
[12:53] Sigiher Jacobus: I could have come to you as chief scribe and let you know of my ruling prior to the presentation of the scroll, however the scroll was not presented to me until the very day of the trial
[12:53] Sigiher Jacobus: I could not have done anything better then I did
[12:54] Isabella Bergiere nods as that was a fair point, the scroll was not found until the very night before
[12:54] Laja DeCuir: you assume, that I would have tried to influence you? Again, I am the leader of the Caste and I should be informed of what is going on, second in case you don't agree with my seal set under a document talk to me and if it would be that you cite me to the trail to get my testimony
[12:55] Laja DeCuir: *trial
[12:55] Sigiher Jacobus: I made a ruling based on the scroll being presented to me the day of the trial and from the citizen of Port Kar
[12:55] Sigiher Jacobus: not to embarrass or deface you
[12:55] Sigiher Jacobus: if I had a chance I would have spoken to you beforehand
[12:55] Sigiher Jacobus: I did not
[12:55] Carin McBride lowered herself to the floor on Bellas left side a smile formed her lips the sight of this lovely woman always made her smile, kind and never a bad word sliped her lips, she lifted the vssel up towards her her chin resting on her chest while doing so and whispers "I brought you some water aswell Mistress"
[12:56] Carin McBride: vessel*
[12:56] Laja DeCuir: yes and you did the trial even if you knew that Lady Bella was without the lawyer that was appointed to her side, because our Ubara was not able to join
[12:57] Isabella Bergiere smiles down to tasta and accepts the water quietly, not wanting to interrupt the flow of converstion she whispers a "thank you"
[12:57] Sigiher Jacobus: the Lady went ahead with the trial not speaking of asking for further representation
[12:57] Sigiher Jacobus: ((aka she said she wanted to go forward without the Ubara who was on vacation))
[12:58] Laja DeCuir: Sir ...
[12:58] Laja DeCuir: beneath all the honor where is your heart?
[12:58] Isabella Bergiere nods her head slowly, "There was no-one else available and I thought the will made things straightforward. I was mistaken
[12:58] Sigiher Jacobus: there is nothing else before Honor Lady
[12:58] Sigiher Jacobus: nothing
[12:59] Laja DeCuir looks at him and smiles after those words
[12:59] Sigiher Jacobus: I cannot afford my heart to speak in the courtroom or be less then impartial. I would be thrown off the peaks to death fast enough if I let my personal feelings comes ahead of anything else
[13:00] Laja DeCuir: but you know our codes and you are a blue caste member Sir
[13:00] Sigiher Jacobus: of course I do and when I am able to follow them in the following of my job assigned me
[13:00] Sigiher Jacobus: then I do so with the upmost honor
[13:00] Carin McBride lowered her hands then looked to her Master with the shiny glimt she for some stranges reson always had when she looked at him, she crawled to his side and staid quiet she even keeped her thighs closed in respect of the women and also because she did not know how he wanted her to position herself
[13:00] Laja DeCuir: isn't it a matter of honor not to let a young woman run in her misfortune?
[13:01] Laja DeCuir: is it not a matter of honor to deal with everything in an equal way?
[13:01] Sigiher Jacobus: of course it is which is why I as an elder member of her caste am wiling to represent the Lady Isabella and I offered her advice on several occasions without cost
[13:02] Sigiher Jacobus: additionally I have always said to you I will be consistant and sometimes I must hold myself above even caste to make rulings in regards to the Homestone and its well being
[13:02] Laja DeCuir: even if the men rule in gor - would it not be a matter of your honor and sense of justice to get her a sentence that she could live with?
[13:02] Isabella Bergiere can barely contain an indignant remark, "yes you offered a collar", she exclaims
[13:03] Sigiher Jacobus: I said there was more then one path and you wished an honorable alternative. The entering into contracted collar of a Free Woman for specified time is both honorable and legal
[13:03] Sigiher Jacobus: you didnt ask me for further ideas
[13:03] Sigiher Jacobus: you stormed out
[13:03] Sigiher Jacobus: you assumed I was done speaking
[13:04] Laja DeCuir: you are a Magistrate Sir not the Ubar himself or one of teh Priest Kings...the responsibility you have to carry upon your shoulder is huge enough without expecting to feel the well being of teh home stone on your shoulders only. We all have exactly this in our codes Sir. We all serve our home stone
[13:04] Sigiher Jacobus: each of us will see their path of honor differently with the caste and the homestone and the position we are assigned
[13:04] Sigiher Jacobus: by defining this to you I have described how I view it
[13:06] Laja DeCuir sighs gently...Don't get me wrong Sir but I am afraid you need to learn a lot still. You don't have to be the lonesome fighter of law. We are your Caste, we all will be the ones who will back your decisions. But to do so you need to speak to us.
[13:07] Sigiher Jacobus: Chief Scribe when I am able to speak to members of the caste or should I have doubts or requirements of the caste of course I will seek you all out
[13:08] Sigiher Jacobus: I understand I am not alone very much so, but at the same time each case involves personal issues and feelings and some of those issues cannot be brought outside of my office or past court, and sometimes I will rule on items involving caste members themselves. Others must trust me outside our caste to see their sides
[13:08] Laja DeCuir: We are a team, a sort of family, you pointed it out very well before - you will be the eldest male in teh caste. Give us the feeling, that we can trust you and you will find the most allegiant people to join your side
[13:10] Sigiher Jacobus: there is no reason to doubt me Chief Scribe. My honor will have me die before one of you does or even sees harm. I protect you as I do my own family and property or that of the Homestone as you are caste sisters to me. I am a man of honor and deep conviction and although I cannot always speak to you or involve you, I am always beside you
[13:12] Sigiher Jacobus: finally notes the paga bowl almost forgotten in my hand and I tip the bowl up and I drink fully from the paga then wiping my face with my sleeve and putting the paga bowl down on the table absently
[13:13] Laja DeCuir straightens her back and looks on to the Magistrate's gaze once more. She lifts her finger and points at him ...however you young hot tempered man never show up on me that way again annd I will continue to adore your way to interprete the law
[13:13] Sigiher Jacobus: Chief Scribe if there is a way for me to involve you ahead of time I will when you are involved I assure you
[13:14] Carin McBride smiles at her Master thinking if he keeps using his sleeve to wipe his mouth she would get to see his strong bare chest again
[13:15] Akasha ZaneAkasha Zane taking sup from time to time she listens silently as they talked
[13:15] Akasha Zane: sip*
[13:15] Laja DeCuir bends over and pats Lady Bellas hand trying to look her straight in the eyes...will this path be one you are willing to walk on?
[13:16] Laja DeCuir: you won't name a protector and in case you need to be protected our Ubar will be the one because he is the eldest of your family?
[13:17] Isabella Bergiere nods, "Yes it makes sense to me"

[13:17] Carin McBride smiles at Bella as the quistion was said, she remembered how scared she was when Laja desided it was her time for her exame, a soft grin sliped her lips remembering how Laja teased her before telling her she had passed
[13:18] Laja DeCuir looks up to the Magistrate and glance at Akasha lil wrinkles surround her eyes as she speaks up"Very good. So we solved this one. Lets go back to work. Sharpen your pens and follow the path of honor."
[13:19] Laja DeCuir leans back a lil exhauseted by this conversation and sips again on her water, enjoying the cool water in her mouth and throat
[13:19] Akasha Zane smiles to Laja as she notices her look and nods slowly

yes a rather... interesting read.. though i will hate to inform you sig... as long as i'm still here and alive RL, i am still bella's guardian. she is not a slave that can be passed around like some form of property, or she would not be standing.. any further argument involving me, i would prefer to be carried out in my presence.. and if you have ANY problem with my post, i'd love to hear what you have to say in your defence..

James..

I am afraid James you are not right. I am sorry but well, I was not oblivious on that ruling either. I never dived into it that deep to be honest.
Of course you are free to be fond of Lady Bella and nobody would forbid you to have an eye on her. But the gorean law is as sure as eggs is eggs in that matter and Sigiher was not wrong on the law side and believe me I am close to sure that there will be less cases, where he won't have a firm grasp of it. Maybe he did not realise that the situation in the trial was about to escalate with such a hot-tempered warrior, but that is really the only accusation that could be made.

And Carter well he does not have a clue.*smiles benignly But due to gorean society he will be in charge because he is the eldest and highest male family member to Bella, who is a cousin to our Ubara. So when it comes to terms of protector ship, he will be in charge.
A FW cannot chose a protector as she likes*looks to Pay and sighs gently, knowing that she would not like this part and continues
She may choose a FC, well at least sometimes ...

Not all are friends of reading the entire chatlog so I will try to summarise that part.

Protectorship in general
Every FW of Treve has touched the home stone as the men that live within the citywalls. We will be protected by our family, Caste or every warrior of the Red Caste. The trevans are bandits but of course they treat their FW with respect. We are their jewels, their bandit princesses or at least they should protect us alike. We are the ones that need to be protected for the sake of the home stone. The harm that could be done to our home stone in case of captures through strangers is too big. Never forget we are mostly FW of high Castes. And beneath that we are wonderful women *winks
However every FW is protected through the sword of our guards, hence the Ubar himself as the highest rank of the Red Caste. But never forget: we are FW and we need to behave alike. If we don't the men will rule us and we will fall.

Protectorship in person
If a FW feels she should have a protector named, she needs to follow the law and the gorean society structure. That means, she cannot choose a man she likes. It would always be the eldest member of her family that will be in charge. If she is without a family - as we find often in Treve - the eldest male member of her Caste will be in charge. If there is any male member the Ubar will have to undertake that task.
*looks up to Sigiher...I think that is all or did I miss something?

@Pay
Though if Victor is not the eldest male of your family he can't be your protector by gorean law. In case you don't have a family in Treve, well it would be one of the slavers I assume, that need to be in charge

This was as intense an rp as I have ever had the pleasure to be involved in from beginning to end and I wish to thank all those who have been part of it.  Lady Laja you have summarized the findings exactly and correctly and thank you as well for all your hard work.

*laughs ... don't get mad at me, tell our Magistrate to hide such rules deep in his pouch*winks
In your case we only have to add one more line, I think. I have no problem if Carter agrees to delegate his task to Vic and we note that. I can't imagine that our Magistrate will have anything against it either
