By the will of the Ubar all protectorships are now to be legal contracts of guardianship registered with the office of the magistrate. Family members or those women without family who elect elder male caste members as protectors and guardians do not need to do so.  Women who are also companioned need not register unless they wish seperate protectors beyond their FC and their FC allows them to have such a legally binding contract.
Protectorship gives the man the right of elder of the family to oversee all the females property and goods, all her actions, and those of the household.
As such, all protectorships within Treve need to be registered with the magistrate for a cost of one silver coin per contract to be considered legal and valid within the city.  Please refer any and all questions to the magistrate of Treve,

We should add.. a protector is legally accountable for your actions, your behaviour, your possessions and your Freedom  Wink

Guardianship in GOR was not just a friendly warrior..gorean protectors are not white knights like Sir Galahad or Lancelot.

I will not look after somebody else's slave like a puppy minder or baby sitter..dont ask me to protect a slave.. I dont protect my own hahahahahaha

I drafted a contract for someone a few weeks ago - am happy for it to be used as a template.  Will copy it below so you can all check it over and make additions etc.

I asked with the Gor wide blue caste group - no other cities seem to store records but they definitely did exist in Gor if the woman had no family, hence why I started recommending them IC when asked, and I'm pleased that Treve is moving in this direction as it's very BTB.

I tried to make the contract cover all the above points Sig has mentioned - yes, the protector role is more than just physical security.

If we want 'body guards' we can hire the mercs.

Here you go!   Am very very happy for comments to be made as it's the first time I've drafted a Gorean document from scratch.  I tried to use my FC contracts as a basis as a lot of the ideas are the same Smiley

As many of you know, I am interested in this issue, and i have wondered how long it would take for such a document to be drafted.  I agree wholeheartedly with the idea, and think it need to be done.  I looked it over and made a few suggested additions or comments.  Of course, each such documents would be unique, and drafted to suit the parties involved.  One major comment I feel compelled to make:

A Lady should not have multiple protectors.  They will often disagree on important matters, and then there is a conflict.  If she does, one must be desiganted as authoritative, and the secondaries must acknowledge such.  Some ladies have several protecors, and a contractual agreement such as this simply cannot work that way.

I have agreed with many of the comments on this topic, that all women of Treve are physically protected by all the men of Treve.  Protection in this sense is much, much more.  It can be a great source of RP, and also binds many of us tighter.  I am Snapper's protector, and becasue of that I am closer to all of the people that she touches, and now especially Colin, it seems.  I call her sister, and have a major role in her life, as she does in mine.

allo allo,

I'm new and still learning. Would appreciate some feedback. These laws protecting FW etc veto powers, letter of law over steel, contracts, are these traditional Southern practises? Do they do this in North aswell? Are these SL evolution items?

Curious,

I think they are "SL evolution items" as you called them. I have read 13 of the books, not all, so I could be wrong, but so far have seen nothing like this.

Luckily, the one I did is already registered.  Smiley

Mal I really like your revisions!

I will add them into my NC and hopefully Laja will concur and I can get this document added to the scribe pack Smiley

Vic - Nomads of Gor.  Aphris was protected and being taken care of by her guardian the merchant than a family member.

and protectors were registered with the council of a city in the books, I will dig out the quotes.

Thanks bella, especially interested in all these laws protecting FW and dictating what a FM can do to a FW, etc, if these are BTB or SL evolution. For example of what i term as SL evolution are the things like "limits" etc.

I like it too.

I agree that it's a SL evolution thing, because none of us has actually lived and grown up in a Gorean society, and we need to implement tools to make sure things that may have been done naturally, are seen and acknowledged in some way within the bounds of Second Life.  Just like we have a meter to assist us in combat, we need these kinds of documents and tools to make sure some societal concepts are taken care of.

This is the best example of "protectors, guardians" .. and it was to summarise

Aphris a wealthy young woman.. orphaned in some manner,, was under the protectorship of a Merchant who tricked her into entering an event that would have meant her slavery.. hence he could take ownership of her riches and properties which he subsequently did and she became a slave to a Tuchuk warrior.

Protectors sometimes didnt protect ..as I said.. Goreans are not all knights of the round table

Hm, I hire a BC on travels. Costly aye, but no hassle. Which reminds me to carefully look over my list of "protectors" but as fellow Magistrate I applaude this, Sig. And Carter, excellent idea...which of course is easy for me to say, I live on Teletus. Teehee Smiley

I do also think this is a good Idea , that way if there is any question as to who would have authroity over the said fw then it would be documented, we had a little problem with this because Snapper does have two protectors and Malcomb being the main ,, when she got in trouble for going into the paga den it was Malcombs discission to publicly punish her ,(( all talked over OOC before hand )) but the problem was ,, was that Frost was not told of this and he became very upset over it, which if Snapper had included him in on what was going on Im pretty sure and if there had been a said such document naming Malcomb as the head man of being her protector then there would not have been any problems. Now as she maybe FC with Colin she will ask him if the protoctership with Malcomb would still stand as Colin is away a lot and this would leave her unprotected if these documents were not set forth.as Malcomb and Katia are very important in Snappers life she would most likely still run to them

I agree Snapper.

This issue has caused me a bit of drama lately (LOL!  understatement!) and I also woulld have preferred it to be recorded officially and will do so in future if I ever have another.

James used to be my 'protector' and he paid Frost to keep an eye on me when he couldn't.
As far as I am concerned Frost was never my protector and I have said this many, many times both IC and OOC.

However, Carter became my guardian after the Cor/James legal thing,

As Carter is a very busy man (like the president of the US he says - I said more like Hitler  Tongue) I asked him OOC if it was ok to delegate to someone else and he said go for it.
As poor James had been away dealing with RL issues when I was threatened by a BC I went to Ace and he then became my protector.

I can see why it looks confusing from the outside but i have only ever had one at once.

However it was all verbal and I think official records would have saved all this confusion and my darned IC reputation.    I have only ever had ONE at once  Cheesy

I just want to understand this fully...
Olympia's protected by Cor who is an elder member of her caste... meaning she doesn't need to have this documented, yes?
Just making sure I read that clause correctly before I worry poor Cor who's gonna have enough things to take care of when he gets back.
