Eight simple rules for visitors:

1. Take a visitor-tag/titler
Every SIM that allows visitors will provide a visitor titler at its entrance point. Get it, wear it.

2. Read the rules
Every Gor SIM will also provide a notecard with rules at the entrance point. Most of them also have a short paragraph on “What visitors should do”. Please read it.

3. Avoid open chat
If you are a visitor to Gor, you do NOT participate in the role play, which happens in open chat. You can write OOC (out of character) text in double parentheses ((lalalala))…. it is tolerated… which does not mean it is well liked.

4. Use IMs
In order not to interfere into the “play”, use IMs to talk to each other. You can even open a “conference IM” among friends.

5. Tour guide
Ask someone of the “locals” for a tour guide. (ask in IM). Even better: Ask someone you know who is Gorean to do it. You will be surprised how many people like to help.

6. Clothing / Weapons
Gor is based on the Classical World of Ancient Rome and Greece. Visitors in bondage gear, with firearms or other “I am so cool” items, with at least 20 bling effects on them are out of the place. Dress moderatly and respect the RP (role play)  of the other people. Even if the visitor tag does make you “invisible” so to say… you are not. A pink penguin will annoy everyone… visitor or not.

7. Avatars
Almost all the Gor SIMs are strictly limited to human avatars.  Werewolves, Nekos and Vampires are excluded, aswell. Just like No.6… its annoying.

8. Respect
If a Gorean is making you aware of a mistake… take it as a friendly advice. To talk back with an impertinent answer does not make you friends.

Might I humbly suggest that you don't use such jargon as "TP-in" when you're trying to communicate with newbies? I for one had to read it several times before realising you meant the "point where you teleport in". And I've been on SL for nearly 6 months.

Though in this case, I'm not sure what word would be more appropriate. Entrance Point? Landing point?  Undecided

Hmmm.... And perhaps point #6 should read:

6. Clothing / Weapons
Gor is based on the Classical World of Ancient Rome and Greece. Visitors in bondage gear, with firearms or other “I am so cool” items, with at least 20 bling effect on them are as out of place as dinosaurs... Actually, dinosaurs aren't actually out of place because we have all manner of giant lizards - water tharalions (like pleisiosaurs), high tharalions (like veloceraptors you can ride), winged tharalions (like pterodactals), broad tharalions (beasts of burden which pull wagons), marsh tharalions (a bit like crocodiles)... oh well, you get the picture! Anyway, please ignore the tattooed tough guys in 20th Century Goth gear - at least they're making a go of it and they'll catch on one day. We hope. So if you dress like a Roman, speak like Yoda and respect the fact that people will always be speaking in character around you and don't respond well to discussions about religons and wars that don't occur on Gor, you'll get on fine. Even if the visitor tag does make you “invisible”, so to say, you are not. A pink penguin will annoy everyone - whether you're a visitor or not. Grin

Thank you Kaile,
sometimes we are using "geek speak" and don't even realize it any more *grins*

I also changed parts of paragraph 6, but I left out the part about dinosaurs and tattooed Goth guys *winks*. I think the 8 points should be as short and as easy understandable as possible, as "Newbies" hate to read anyway.

But you put it into the wrong rules!
It's more important that the part about the clothes is a part of the normal rules, not to the visitor-rules.
I think the first sentence of the rules should be:
There are no Hells Angels at Gor - get rid of your leather pants and High Heel Boots

Originally I asked to translate this her post wchich she posted in a German blog. This text is available as a notecard at Wasteland's and Sand Sleen's entry poins.

... so maybe someone should  adjust the text there, too.  Wink

Hi bella,

no it does not give you the right to do all you want.

1. Most SIMs expect the visitors to be dressed in a sensible way.
2. If you "interefere" in any way in the RP (which can be as little as saying "Tal" in open chat), you are no longer observer, but become part of the RP.

On the other hand... if some girl would get the grand idea of running around naked as an observer and intentionally get on someones nerves and disturb the RP... I would not bother to capture her, but rather get her banned from the SIM... as I would not expect any good RP from this person anyway... not even bad RP.

Aye...please use Observer tags.  We will ignore you probably anyway if you look out of place or don't have a meter on.  I banned someone yesterday who was a neko...I ignored her first but she just kept creeping up on us and talking ooc.  She thought she was being Gorean as a "Wild Child".

Not all sims in Gor allow OOC the first thing anyone should do is read the sims rules to find out if this is allowed.  If it is not then either you don't go where it is full IC or you abide but what the rules are a visit.  There are many sims that a very newbie friendly even with out the OOC tag.  Rules have been writen for a reason for each sim and it is everyones responsiblity to read then before they engage in IC roleplay.  There are far to many who show no respect for rules and believe they are better than anyone else so the rules do not apply to them.  I am personally rather tired of these people and there lack of respect.  It doesn't matter how good they can emote they in my opinion are not good roleplayers.

i hate to say it but yes i have had the run ins with the occasional neko, drow, demon, or noob fresh from help island wether i was ooc myself in the market or in a rp and had the open ooc chat from them. m biggest peave is the (( )) and even the ooc testonese (*green chat) as i am rping and yes i am bad for it mostly to say hey rl is being a sleen brb if i am in a group rp to save time from iming about 10 ppl or so

If being owned is considered weak then ask yourself this...who has the freedom a free woman or kajira? To me a kajira is the most free of the two as only a kajira can show her sexual desires in public and has come to know that she is a true woman as were a Free Woman must hide her desires in public.

sadly this is th efate of any rp sim..there will be the constant noobs that will come not read or even accept teh notecards of the rules and in open chat insist on interupting the rp of others. sad but true...but there are those that are truelly ooc observers that were or are tossed/banned/verbally assaulted. I saw once a neko girl whom was wearing a observer tag in a sim and she wasnt interrupting but she did tell me she was curious to gor and wanted to observe and see if it was for her and was banned for having a tail. Now i can see that visually that would be distracting to some but sadly there was no reason to kick and banned when asked the person that in open said kicked and banned he said she had a tail..and when i asked did she banter in a im to you or anyone..No, she had a tail is why. I imed the girl and invited her to the sim i was apart of gave her a freebie dress that I had and she is still in Gor to this day shes kajira but she is a great rper and in my eyes a great addition to the city that she is a part of (*Not mine but another Sad  ) so all i ask and say is if they are obeying the observer rules partially consider maybe they dont know that there is a free dress or outfit so they can visually fit in but look at if they are actually causing problems and not just by their looks

Happens a lot and not only at newbees, some experienced Goreans do it too. Even wrong meters I see regular, thats basic I would say.

yes and it is sad..a friend of mine got banned from a sim for being a panther that came to the sky market that as soon as you land it gives you the rules and first thing in the rules is 'This is the OOC market and ALL are welcome.' she came to look at the various vendors and no sooner than she landed she was booted with a IM stating 'No Panthers allowed' myself i was kicked from same sim as soon as i rezzed for being ooc on my meter in teh same market. When eitehr of us imed the owner or even a so called mod of teh sim were were only told that we were muted. About a week after i was banned from teh sim i was capped by a citizen there and i had forgotten about my ban..it was funny as he asked why i wasnt tping i sent him the messege that i was given that i was not on the access list I was then removed and i laughed at them and him telling him that i normally honor capps but if i am expected to come to a hater sim then i will just say that it is invalid .... i dug out my logged im with the owner pasted it to nc gave it to the guy along with my and his im copyed as well and said this is why..and that all i did was go into their so called OOC market.....its funny that Port Kar has since gone through alot of Mods since then
