serene,

Ok, now I guess I am going to have to do the thing I hate the most, begin to quote from the books, wait, let me paraphrase, I like that better!

It is spoken in the books that the laws of the city extend to its walls. It does not extend past that. That, I believe to mean, goes the other way, meaning the people outside of the walls have nothing to say about the laws of that city.

As I said in another post, I would never go tell people what to do in a place I do not live, it is not my place. And, if I do not appreciate or like the rules of where I am I have two choices, adjust or move on.

Don't ask peoples opinions then hmmmm  Huh   Or post things on a public forum for debate and discussion.  Keep it in your private sim discussions perhaps?

serene,

I do not speak for others. I am just giving you my opinion on the matter.

I would ask for people's opinion, because it is good to get a lot of different view points, but then I would have to say that I must make my choice as we all know that one's choice must be of their own.

We can at least agree on that.  Choice is indeed a good thing.  Smiley

I have found that in my travels I was able to even agree with a Red Caste once.

If I can pull off that type of a miracle, I am sure agreeing with you isn't going to be as difficult!

I just wish BTB meant something other than not allowing a woman to carry a sword.  I also wish it actually started with reading the books which allow for many great stories that SL Gor has not even touched on while considering themselves so limited.

I love btb and i somewhat love that part of it. Now I can not stand nroamn. I cant stand his writing style, it bothers me. Now that does not mean I can not agree with reading so we can have different stories

I think there has to be a balance on how far you want to take the btb level versus how much good roleplay you want to see achieved. I can count a bunch of times where we had events that the roleplay was so brilliant that you really felt immersed in that world. The honest truth of it though it wasn't exactly 100% BtB and this was roleplay from folks that have read the books forwards and backwards.

In that I believe a balance has to be maintained. Sure book thumpers have their place I guess (although to be honest the ones i have come across have been complete btb assholes that just want to show off the level of nerdage they have achieved over the years by reading and breathing the works of the scary talented Norm).

And if Norm were to create a avie, visit second life Gor and see all the sims and talk to everyone. I don't doubt he would think we all got it wrong and that we are not really like the world he created. But you know what folks? THAT'S OK!

The roleplay we do now is not some script from the books that we follow to the letter or else it would be just an re-enactment of the chapters of the books themselves. We make our own stories and we follow the books as a guideline and not the by all end all of our roleplay. And yes there are rules meaning if we have a lifesize Godzilla attacking a Gorean sim then yes that is definitely not btb. So in essence we have to have a balance where the fundamental principals of Gor are observed and yet we have room for some creativity. I mean for Pete's sakes we have a battalion of great roleplayers here and alot of them can come up with some amazing roleplay. I am sure that if the basics are followed there is no reason we cannot have a good time with it.
