I'd like to present to all a new group in SL Gor which will be trying to offer those interested a Red Caste / Tarnsman training similar to the one available at the moment for Black Castes, to assure decent combat-skills, but more importantly a strong RP-challenge and recognition for those who manage to pass the trials.

In the end they will be able to call themselves qualified Red Castes and an elite among them.
Or so is the purpose. Besides obviously advertising it's existance this thread also has another purpose, mainly finding good inspiration on what types of tests and trials the candidates would have to face, so if anyone has creative ideas as to what kind of RP an 'elite' Red Caste would have to face then feel free to say so.

Below is the application form for our own brave Warriors that would dare to face the challenge, so people could get a general idea about what is expected from them.

Treve’s Brothers of the Wind – Elite Tarnsmen & Warriors
_____________________________________________

One of the most infamous cities of Gor, the city of Treve, for the most part lived out of raids. Having an army of tarn cavalries and fearless Captains such as Rask of Treve, the men of Treve would normally strike almost everywhere their tarns could take them.

Tarnsmen, riders of the great Tarns called Brothers of the Wind, are masters of the open sky, fierce warriors whose battleground is the clouds and sky; they are not forest people; they do not care to stalk and hunt where, from the darkness of trees, from a canopy of foliage, they may meet suddenly unexpectedly, the quarrel from the crossbow of an invisible assailant." Tarnsman of Gor, pg 63

"One does not learn to master a tarn.  It is a matter of blood and spirit, of beast and man, of a relation between two beings which must be immediate, intuitive, spontaneous.  It is said that a tarn knows who is a tarnsman and who is not, and that those who are not die in this first meeting." Tarnsman of Gor, pg 51

The Brothers of the Wind is an elite group of Tarnsmen.  The finest of Treve and the finest of all Gor.

************************************************

Criteria for being able to start your training as a BotW:

1. To be considered you must be a Warrior or Mercenary of Treve
2. You must understand that the offered training will be very challenging
3. You must understand that you might not pass the training
4. You must understand that upon failing certain keypoints in the training you'll be required to do certain tasks or alternative tasks with the same goal over again.
5. The training requires at least 1 month time for those who pass all tests at the first go. But don't be surprised if it takes longer upon failure. By becoming a candidate you agree to these terms.

You can still be a tarnsman of Treve, but the Brothers of the Wind are an elite of tarnsmen. It's meant to be something people can wear with pride and recognition across Gor. A challenge for true goreans.

Description of the training:

1. The training consists mostly out of missions and tasks handed out to you. During these missions you'll acquire mostly insight on Treve, the Warrior Caste and proper IC and OOC behaviour for a Red Caste.
2. Combat is also a very important part of the training and will be mostly offered on a basis of organized weekly tarnback CTF-games. But will also depend on the candidates own initiative on practicing both his bow and tarnsman skills.
3. Below is a progress section, this keeps track of your progress in the training and comments from the instructor, along with comments and logs of certain completed tasks.
(Log) = a log of completing this task is required.

*************************************************************

Progress:
-----------

1. Free Woman Capture:
- Taunt and observe a Free Woman in another city. (Log)
- Then the day after kidnap her. Question and interrogate her. (Log)
- Release her at your own discretion (or keep her as your slave.) 1 hour of keeping her in captivity is enough for the task.

Completed:
Comments of the Officer:

2. Huh:
- The details for this task will be made clear once the candidate gets to this point. (Both IC and OOC) It requires endurance and patience and proper OOC behaviour. It's a good idea to during this test to prepare for the following one. (3)

Completed:
Comments of the Officer:

3. Council of Warriors:
Answer questions regarding the Red Caste and Treve.
If one of the chosen veteran Warriors present dislikes the behaviour of the candidate, the candidate can try again in 2 weeks. A set of notecards (all pertaining BtB information) for study will be made available for this part.
**Erasure of his NC progress on failure.**
((Do not moan if you do not pass this part and have to start over again. If this had been Black Caste training you would've been killed at this point instead. And not even given another chance.))

Completed:
Comments of the Officer:

4. Boldness of the Trevan Warrior:
- Challenge a Warrior from another city for a duel with his companion as the prize for the duel, win and claim her as your own slave.
- If the challenged man refuses, this is to be understood and you shall issue him a kajira-canjeline instead and remind him that it's in the Caste Codes to accept this challenge. (The companion one isn't, so no dishonor in not accepting it... all the more honor for him if he would.)
You can repeat this quest over until you've succesfully challenged someone and claimed his slave. (Log)

Completed:
Comments of the Officer:

5. Raiders of the Sky:
Participated in at least 4 weekly organized tarnback CTF-games above Treve. These Sky CTF-games will hone your bowskills, tarnsman skills, as well as other basic raiding skills.

Completed:
Comments of the Officer:

6. Healthy Competition
A duel on tarnback (with bows obviously) against another candidate high in the skies above Treve. Only one can win. The other candidate can try again in a month. Should he have recovered from his injuries by then or not have died from the fall.

Completed:
Comments of the Officer:

This is all fun and well in RP, but in a city where you cant buy a slave from the kennels without OOC consent from all parties involved or have anyone do anything they dont agree with OOCly, wouldnt this constitute a breach of OOC rules? Many Men and their slaves have connections that go beyond mere RP and i would doubt they'd go along with this.

I think Mord then part of the challenge would be to find a suitable canidate for the challenge without such OOC ties.  It does make the challenge a little more difficult.  OR an option would be to win the slave and sell her back to her owner at an inflated price.  That way the slave doesnt have to leave their sim.

I actually would have liked to have seen as a part of this testing... a gauntlet based on swordskills.  While bow combat is very popular in SL, I never felt as though it was the spirit of the books that warriors' only viable weapon was the bow.

I do applaud you for trying this with the red caste though Anarch and look forward to seeing how this all fleshes out.

well Thyri when you are flying a tarn usually you do use a bow  ,so we emphasise the bow rather than the sword ,of course you are expected to be able to use one ,but it is a BOW/Tarn thing

Well it seemed to be more of a warrior thing than a tarnsman thing.  Which was why I was asking.

Commander of the Brothers of the Wind,
Anarch of Treve

Thanks for any kind of input and ideas!

Well honestly, if you want this to be a group for all of SL-Gor...you kinda destroyed that with the "Must be a Trevan citizen." I am sure alot of us would be interested. I, for one, am always interested in finding someone with my skill level on a tarn to train with. I have also read over the rest of the criteria, and alot of it seems to be just that, trevan concerns. Where would you hold the classes. I am sure there could be a true neutral area where the training could be held. No blood shed or war issues would be shared. If this is still a good idea to you, to have a universal group for this, I would be interested. Though, it would not be of trevan.

He did mention it would be similar to the one available for the Black Castes, and if it's the one I'm thinking of, you have to be a member of their BC camp to participate in that one. I don't see any juxtaposition with this statement, though for those who may be unfamiliar with the strict rules of the BC training camp, I can see where there might be some confusion.

BC training = Must be a member of the BC camp
BOW training = Must be a member of Treve

Would be neat if there were a more open group, but then you get a lot of people flaking out. Seems like a true commitment is what Anarch is after.

Just my take on it.

Hmm well with that statement. Lady Dove has been wanting me to create a couple things around the Tarn House to keep things...spiced up. I am considering holding Tarn Sparring Tournaments and Racing Tournaments, just like there is for sword. If this idea sounds good hit me a nc. I will be watching this post to see if I was missing more on my previous statement.

Just make it clear that you don't intend to keep her... she's just going to vanish after a few hours anyway.  Most everyone has a capture limit.

OK time for me to speak now. I have been a member of BOW and an officer now for many years when it first started in treve and I did my test under Havoc.
Recently somebody else took over and oh nobody knew I was a member so was told to fly the course and if I did a good time I would believed and I think I had a very fast time for the advanced course.
Now somebody else comes in and it looks like oh lets just start again well I am sorry after three years of loyal support for Treve and many old friends trying to get me to leave but I stayed through thick and thin. BUT there is no way I am going to do all this course again as one I dont see that I should and also I do not have the time anymore.
Was nice knowing you Treve but it as been going downhill now for a while and to me this is the final straw.

The list has been cleared to set it up properly this time.

Gaining the title should be an accomplishment and we will keep overseeing that the BotW, an elite among Red Castes, will remain passed on from veteran Warrior to veteran Warrior.

All people that used to have a officer rank in the BotW have been placed in a "Warrior Council" that will assist in mentoring and giving advice to other officers or Warriors. Their assistance obviously also will be valuable for the training and screening of new BotW candidates.

We have gotten quite alot of candidates, veteran Warriors from all across Gor, for the new BotW, which has to become the Red Caste equivalent of the 'feared' Black Caste training. The new training itself has as purpose not only being a screening but also to offer interesting RP venues and fun!

In order to level the playing field and assuring that it's a clean 'elite' we had to clear the roster. The organisation of it as it was before was a bit too chaotic, and the focus on the training and screening is alot more on actual BtB RP right now, as well as obviously motivating people in a positivate and fun way to practice their combat skills as well.
