Yes, as there is no such thing as kanda in real life I just picked cocaine (not crack) as a subject to use a research what effects a stimulant can have on the body.  And I recognize that the coca leaf is not considered addictive.  But years ago, with lack of knowledge by the general populace, that was the conception then.

And yes, like many other items in Gor there are different interpretations or simply many folks decide to act on the information in a way that makes sense to them.  There are so many things that people needlessly battle over.  It can create some confusion if folks have different beliefs when trying to engage in role play together; but I don't see an easy answer.  Other than to say that with some items, we need to have respect for each others decisions and somehow make it flow when we interact with folks of differing views.   Cheesy

I have mixed reactions to the "It's not mentioned in the books thing.  I believe that at times it inhibits developing a more colorful, three dimensional world; but at other times some of the additions have added some "rituals" or concepts that are either inane or even inaccurate by even by current Earth standards.  And these end up getting imposed on players as "you must learn this".   I continue to research and look into topics though; no longer blindly accepting what is considered by some to be BTB, despite their experience.

It's good to care; to try to educate ourselves and others.  But in the end, it boils down to understanding that we all have different approaches and beliefs.  We need to agree to disagree with grace; leave off the bickering and start having fun with our rich community of diverse players.  Smiley

Serena, wanna open pandora's box and start a thread on the use of herbs and or illnesses in SL Gor?  Laughs maniacally and runs from the room ducking!

Thanks for that Hawt.   Wink  Raises her fist in support of the native Bolivians !

I think you made a very important point Betony in that Norman may have misunderstood stimulant/narcotics, but my original post was really about how people relate kanda to the coco leaf - when actually all kanda has in common with the coco leaf is that it is a leaf, and that it is chewed.  The effects described in the book are the complete opposite and have nothing in common with it.

For me, if its plausable and makes sense in the spirit of the books then its not wrong so I wouldnt comdemn anyone using kanda in RP for medicinal purposes as its believable to me that it happened.  Most drugs are poison or toxic if not taken in the right dosage so I dont buy the argument that because its a poison it wouldnt be used.  And physicians clearly tested and experimented with drugs as we see with Flaminius and his work to try and find an immunisation for Dar-Kosis.

There are onlineisms and practices in all roles that are completely inaccurate and should be stopped, but I dont believe this is one of them.  It inhibits RP on something that could very very easily have happened, the most telling phrase being *not much value*.

As for the rest of the herbs and illnesses lol - argh... *runs*   Grin
