The crust on the double edge blade was black and thick. Still, some viscid brain tissue was sticking here and there. Spawn plunged the sword into the steaming basin. The dry flesh started to melt under the effect of some effervescent liquor. The blade emerged a moment later, shining again, once more hungry for new blood. It's mirror reflected the face of the girl behind him. He turned around and grabbed the minutely carved hilt, covered with a fauna of fantastic animals and tightly covered with braided leather straps. The slave had lowered herself to the floor and was seating on her heels, beautifully.
"Tal, my Master," said she, "I have been given this for you, as I went to the village of Ka'Zahr, following your orders."
She handed him a rolled up scroll, with her eyes lowered to the floor. Spawn  took the parchment from her hands. "You are dismissed, Kulata." He said simply, turning himself away from the girl. He broke the seal of red wax with the dagger symbol of the tented camp, and placed the scroll under his oil lamp. He read, slowly, and not without some difficulty, the few words written in tight cursive Gorean letters.

Brethren,

I have an important business to discuss with you. It will likely be one of the most arduous missions one of our caste has ever engaged into since the times of Pa-Kur. It is likely you will not come out of this safe and sound - especially sound… But you will be well remunerated for you efforts, and gold always comes before sanity.

Meet me on the shores of the Issus river on the next gibbous moons.

The Master Assassin of the Dagger Island.

He moved the scroll slowly over the flame of the lamp. His face became bright for a few Ihns, before it was cast into darkness again.
