I'm of the Green Caste.  If you catch me on duty, I will be wearing green.  If not, I might be wearing blue, purple, or red. And as the second quote indicates, some reserve the caste colors only for ceremonial functions.   Read on:

Needless to say, caste members do not always wear the caste colors. For example, a scribe would normally wear his blue when working but not always when at leisure. Goreans are fond of color and style in their raiment. They tend to be careful of their appearance and often delight in looking well. (Witness of Gor)

OR

“And if I dressed in such a manner that my caste would not be clear,” she said, “it is no more than many women do upon occasion. Surely some women even reserve the caste robes and colors for such things as formal occasions, and some even for ceremonial functions.”

That is so true!  I don't wear black all the time. I have a few brown outfits I wear during my down time.

Though admittedly I have a decent stock of blue dresses, I thoroughly enjoy my riot of colors... my reds, browns, creams, white, teal, cranberry, anything BUT blue.  I usually save my fluffy stuff for special occasions, much like described.

When I was in Pravus a few years back, we had these wonderful sashes in caste color.  I also like the idea of armbands as well but the ones that I see in SL Gor seem a bit bulky.

I wear all colours - patterns - textures ...  I have never thought a Caste had to wear its colours unless its for a formal event or in the course of serious work.  Thanks for sharing that Betony with everyone !

I have even been known to wear purple just to annoy Ubaras.  And it works.  Grin

Even as a Warrior, i tend to wear brown most of the time, being "stationed" in Minus. This ofcourse also ties in with the fact that i am a Treven Mercenary, but its not the garb that makes the Warrior, it is his way of life, his stance, his demeanor.

When I was living among the southerners, I would rarely wear a blue outfit.  Usually just an armband, if that.  I've always favored the look of brown and gray on my avatar.

About robes of concealment:

In this chair, in graceful lassitude, weary, sat another girl, though one whose features, as she wore sheaths of pinned veils, I could not well remark. I was startled, discerning the volume and splendor of her robes; they were multicolored and brilliant in their sheens and chromatic textures, and so draped and worn that, particularly at the hem, the diverse borders of these various garments seemed to compete with one another to win the observer’s accolade as the finest, the most resplendent, of all. About the robes and over the hood and veils of the garmenting were slung medallions and necklaces of wrought gold, pendant with gems. On her hands were white gloves, fastened with hooks of gold. Beneath the final hem of the innermost robe I saw the toes of golden slippers, jeweled, and scarlet-threaded, sparkling in the torchlight.

Another great quote!  Thanks Poisonous!

I started this quote collection because I grew weary of the derisive comments (usually negative thought emotes) about not wearing my caste colors.  I will fight "fire" with "water" and share these 3 quotes with the next know-it-all.   Grin

Here's another quote if you don't already have it.....

“You have drawn a weapon against me,” I said.
“You are of the warriors?” said the fellow. He wavered. He, too, knew the codes.
    “Yes,” I said.
    “And he?” asked the fellow.
    “He, too,” I said.
“You are not in scarlet,” he said.
“True,” I said. Did he think that the color of a fellow’s garments was what made him a warrior? Surely he must realize that one not of the warriors might affect the scarlet, and that one who wore the grimed gray of a peasant, one barefoot, and armed only with the great staff, might be of the scarlet caste. It is not the uniform which makes the warrior, the soldier. -  Magicians of Gor  pg 129

Thank you Betony!

I wish our caste of greens knew this better too. I have so often been scorned for not wearing green - usually by other physicians though. Once i was healeing a man, suddently hit by an arrow. I nearly were not allowed to treat him because my dress was pink. 'How can you be a physician and in pink!?' - Well, i do not have a green spare dress to just jump in, in the middle of the streets of Gor and i should think my skills in removing an arrow should be more important for him, then the colour of my dress - well...isnt Gor just colourful and lovely Cheesy
