Thanks for other quotes shared!  I am building a note card to share the next time I get assaulted for wearing a pink dress when I tried to medically assist an injured person.  Roll Eyes  (Leave ‘em to bleed to death while you go throw on a green dress.) It's ironic, but I often find the person wagging their finger at me at times like this isn't even wearing their caste colors or is a kajira running around in silks doing her daily chores.  Laughs!

I read the books of course and somehow the quotes about the helmets just slid passed me! It sounds like the helmets were an integral piece of the uniform of a killer.  Yet when I search my memory, I have few recollections of SL killers wearing black helmets?  Gak! I'm probably wrong and will get a flood of angry posts now.  LOL

Since we are in a graphical environment; it helps to have to color cues.  To enrich and color our world (pun intended) we need to learn our roles; as well as have an understanding of other's role to give depth to this SL world of Gor and castes.  But what I see is that there was some flexibility in what was worn in Gor. Whether SL, RL or the books, there is a diverse group of people with diverse tastes some of what is affected by regions, situations and cultures.  There were some hard and fast rules for the wearing of caste colors; but then for every one of these absolutes, there was a counter quote for other regions or situations. As Maria indicated, we need to establish tolerance and respect for others viewpoints and tastes . . . and hopefully these are supported by the books.  (Although some of our choices in garb are confined by what is available to us commercially in SL; some are simply a matter of taste or what some RL pocketbooks can accommodate.)  The display of caste color WAS very important to a Gorean; however, not all wore them 24/7, nor had an exclusive right to a color.

Here’s another thought … As was brought up in an earlier post; many had brown or gray as part of their caste colors.  This is consistent with the dye materials of more medieval societies.  Black was actually a very difficult color for dyers.  I’m not sure how this “science” plays into Gor as it is such a wild mix of technologies; ranging from the very primitive to highly advanced. Shrugs . . just a thought.

Apparently Tarl Cabot had access to "Just For Men" hair dye on Gor though when he went in disguise as Kuurus.  Wink

Found another quote for you Bets in Explorers:

"In his best, a slaver will usually wear blue and yellow robes, or robes in which these colors are prominent He will, normally, in his day-to-day business, wear at least chevrons, or slashes, of blue and yellow on his lower left sleeve."

Exactly... and I believe this description applies to everyone on Gor - all castes where the caste identification is really some marker or something - not the entire outfit.

But I'ma still gonna get me a big all-black long robe with the blue and yellow stripe on the left sleeve just like Cernus! That way all the free can be scared of me, not just the stock. I mean animals. I mean... -sighs- ...kajirae. >Smiley

Mhm, as far as I know they did not wear the caste colour at all in Tyrus and Cos but the colour of the city...

I don't think Warriors should -often- wear anything else than Scarlet. Mostly because they were military men, they were on duty 24/7 pretty much, and busy with their Caste work and ethos 24/7.

They also were, I believe, fiercely proud of their Caste. And it's even recognized in the Warrior Codes apparently that the Warrior Caste at occasions would hang the scarlet banners of it's caste from many buildings and city walls... Once again in an act of pride of their Caste.

I remember getting flack once from an assassin when I was wearing a mixture of black and red in my uniform though. I mean... I wore a scarlet kilt with black edges, a scarlet cloak with black edges and a black tunic... I found it a bit odd he specifically picked on my outfit, considering there are Warriors out there that are fully clad in black leather 24/7... At the moment I wear full scarlet with silver and gold here and there though.

I am with Anarch on this, I am very proud of being a Scarlet and my outfit will reflect that unless I am not at Tyros and want to go unnoticed. That does not however, mean I wear only Red. I have several outfits that are maybe only 50% red but it is always there, I remember one Incident with a Killer where he tried to pick at the fact I was in a black outfit, he failed to notice somehow my Cloak was red and black and that the outfit was as much red as it was black I would also point out that this was before I completed my Trials and was not yet a member of my Caste only a petitioner, since then I have only worn the Tyrosan Warriors Uniform given to me when I completed my Trials when I am on duty.

One of my Favorites quotes, while not quite Gorean, is certainly something to ponder
"What kind of a Man is a Man, That does not strive to make what is His Better."
