I often find myself role-playing on different sims and on parallel story-lines at the same time. They all relate to Shikhandi as a character but in a way that these stories develop at different IC times in his life, only roughly within the same period (I don't jump from young to old age). Since I only play this character and don't use alts to play different stories at different places, I find this is the best way to proceed in order to make the most of my time online. I would hate, for instance, being stuck, idle, at some point of one particular story, just because my RP counterparts are not around, so I simply jump to another scene whenever possible.

Of course some people prefer playing on a consistent and linear fashion, one scene, one story after another. I for one go back and forth in time, using flash-backs and flash-forwards so to speak. It is then my call to decide when one particular event takes place in relation to the others.

But I wonder how you guys proceed: do you manage your character's life on a linear time-line? Do you have a cluster of scenes going on in parallel such as I do? Do you prefer jumping into OOC when a story is stopped? Do you use alts to switch between one story and another?

I play my character in a linear time line.  In Gor I do not currently have an alt in Gor so will usually go OOC if no one is around.  For me that is just how my brain works.  Though the idea of your style is intriguing.

I do the parallel thing all the time, the RP is roughly in order and there are IC consequences but in general I jump from scene to scene.

For example I was in the middle of a RP with Shik a few days ago but had to leave because of RL -  we'll finish it when we are both free but it won't stop me doing other RP if I log on and he's not available.

I play two main AVS now.  Serene is linear as that works for her best, and apart from a recent slow down due to mainly RL - she is now back to being extremely busy again with storylines or writing poems/playing music.  If no one is around she utilises the Gorean custom of musicians being able to travel freely and goes off to find someone to engage but its still in the *here and now*.

Lorelei is more my Schrodinger's cat and exists in lots of different parrallel universes in SL with the events being clustered around different stories both past and current.   It could get confusing - but truthfully, it really doesnt - at least not to me.   Wink
