Oarsman
subcaste from the Low Caste of sailor.

Should get the recognition from Gor wide as much as all other caste, and still have the possibility to look 'righteous', grins. Good thing about Oarsman you don't have to say it out loud if you're a pirate or not.

Naval literature?, +facepalm+ get your Google search and lot's of coffee ready, this will be a long research.

Oh, tips, find some blog about navy, preferably Gorean, begins with ports or fleets, they already pack great deal of information, pointless to be brought it here.
Look for information that matters FOR you, start slow from how you move your oar to how you arrange with your friends when travelling in fleet.

Here's an example how to move your oars RP wise:

Down the boat came at a galloping gait, threshing over waves and flinging spray head-high; it bucked and it dove, it buried its nose and then lifted it, but the oarsman continued to maintain it on a steady course.
— The Winds of Chance
laugh.....

here's a quote (off Gor) to illustrate how a ship's hard turn:

The current would naturally run faster on the “outside” and consequently would tend to turn the boat round, and therefore the inside oarsman pulls his oar
constantly towards himself and the outside man pushes his oar from himself (i.e. backs water), to keep the boat straight.
— The History of Herodotus

But be warned, some gorean SL sims has ALREADY have rules of engagement on naval fleet battle, smiles. So keep your wisdom to yourself, ...until asked, and be polite.

One thing you can be sure of, you can be great company to go cross sims, and acknowledged in many cities, North and South, (no, doesn't really fit in in Sardar and Voltai), arrange schedule for travelling ships, etc, etc...Keep the brawls down *clears throat*.

+Smote his chest to salute+ ..To Lands End....~fin~*

I do too but sadly oarsmen have no caste.  They can be warriors, merchants working their way up to captain or even galley slaves but if there was a caste I would love to see it called the Caste of Semen...oops I meant Seamen.   Cheesy Cheesy

As they allegedly say in the Caste of Sailors, there's no more glorious sight than Seamen on your poopdeck.

Hey there is nothing wrong with Oarsmens, how do you think they get all those muscles??? As I said  in my Post my Fc is a umm Thessa Water Captian Privateer well not quite like that but  he has  his strong arm muscles. From his Ship.  You all rock Oarsmans.

The Gorean girl is, even if free, accustomed to slavery; she will perhaps own one or more slaves herself; she knows that she is weaker than men and what this can mean;she knows that cities fall and caravans are plundered; she knows she might even, by a sufficiently bold warrior, be captured (nomads)

I don't know about it being a caste or subcaste, but there were certainly oarsmen in Torvaldsland.  Here's one of my favorite quotes that mention them....

"She struggled, held. She had a fair throat, good shoulders; she was marvelously breasted; her waist was such that one could get his hands on it well; she might have been a bit broad in the beam but I had no objection to this; in the north it is called the love cradle; it was well adapted to cushion the shocks of an oarsman's pleasure..."  - Marauders of Gor.
