Did you assume in roleplay that tarnsman use nothing but bows?
er...not quite.
"I suspect, however, that the truest reason is that tarnsmen, never having learned respect for the small bow, tend to despise such a weapon, regarding it as unworthy a Warrior's hand, as being too puny and ineffective to win the approval of a true Gorean fighting man." (Assassins of Gor, pg. 366)

"The tarnsman commonly carries, strapped to the saddle, a Gorean spear, a fearsome weapon, but primarily a missile weapon, and one more adopted to infantry." (Assassins of Gor, pg. 366)

well said Dove , but apart from a spear I have in my inventory that i can use as a sword, i have never seen a spear I can use from tarnback,  unless you know different?

MAYBE we'll get the meter makers to wake up and start thinking in range terms just for that purpose of tarn and tharalion combat.
Our gorean mounts tarn and tharlalion don't let warriors get close and slug it out, due to range limits of meter weapons.

I bet on a tarn saddle he could carry quite a bit with a saddle attachment for them. Right Dove?

unfortunately most sims do not allow hybrid weapons, and throwable spears tend to be just that. Its a shame, i prefer my spear over a bow any day.

well it's something seriously missing from our combat, the capability of fighting from  mounted animals, and page after page in books we have just that.
LCS meter lets me get the tarn doing damage wing/claw/beak and take melee weapon damage *swords spears you name it), *rah rah go Patrik* and a few more tweaks on health striking areas and it's perfection.
BUT we still don't have the melee range to fight tarnsman against tarnsman with the swords and spears..which is so written everywhere in the books, with both the mounts of gor, tharlarions and tarns.
Cracks her knuckles I' wanna see something besides the crossbows in the air, and men on tharlaions swinging at each other and hitting.
Yeah bloodthirsty I am, I LIKE seeing ariel combat and ground combat on the those animals of gor.

crazy idea but its late , do you think there could ever be collision damage from either a tarn or thalarion? i cannot imagine any of these beasts smacking into somebody and the person in question just gets up and dusts himself off like nothing happened.

actually Daved the Treve tarn DID do damage with beak and claws but it was hellishly diffiicult to get the  strike right, i think its been removed in the Ubar of the skies range but your right of course a huge bird plummeting to the grond and landing on someone will sting a bit if nothing else Smiley
