Well... I have to go on the basis that Norman was writing in English when he made up the name.. and since there is an E at the end of the word.. this would give the first E its vowel sound.. ergo.. TrEeeeve.

However, since proper names are generally not bound to follow the rules of grammatical pronunciation, it could in Normans mind be pronounced as anything.

I shall summarize by saying I personally have always said Treve like "Steve.. Eve.. "

Wonder how it would be pronouced in Gorean though...

Gorean alphabet had 28 letters:

Eta, Tau, Al-ka, Omnion, Nu, Ar, Ina, Shu, Homan.

"In Gorean," said Bosk, "the most frequently occurring letter is Eta. We might then begin by supposing that the combination of blue and red signifies an Eta."
"I see," said Samos.
"The next most frequently occurring letters in Gorean," said Bosk, "are Tau, Al-Ka, Omnion and Nu. Following these in frequency of occurrence are Ar, Ina, Shu and Homan, and so on."
Slave Girl

Eta, for example, occurs two hundred times more frequently in the language than Altron. Over forty percent of the language consists of the first five letters I mentioned, Eta, Tau, Al-Ka, Omnion and Nu."
Slave Girl

One oddity about it, from the point of view of one who reads Gorean, is that it possesses signs for only four of the nine vowels in Gorean.

Maybe he is related to her...

“Peggy Stevens,” she said. I smiled. It was an Earth name.

Funny you english people can discuss how to pronounce such a simple word as Treve, when you cant agree on potatoes and tomatoes Cheesy

As from the 'out side' i enjoy the differences in hearing americans, brits and australians how different you pronounce things and some times even spell it - and in between that, there are the different dialects inside each country as well.

To me the most amusing is huge gab between the upper class british, where every one speaks every letter almost way too clearly, with small 'ooooh', 'ahhh' and 'Oh dear!' and the texan 'flat-having-a-potato-in-your-mout-when-you talk' dialects Smiley

Do you pronounce it like Steve?    Treeeeeve?

Do you pronounce it like Beverly?  Treehhhhhve?

Do you pronounce it like "Assholes stole my panties!"  or something else like that?

I tend to pronounce it The T as 'ekki-ekki-ekki', the R as 'pitang' the initial E as 'Zoom', the V as 'Boing' and the final E remains silent, unless I am alone or with somebody.. in which case I pronounce it as "Salmon T Sax"    (ekki-ekki-ekki-pitang-zoom-boing!)

Its a pity that I am the only one who pronounces it correctly.
