_____________L A W S  OF  T R E V E____________

IGNORANCE OF THESE LAWS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!

The City of Treve is a Gorean Sim:  It is a Force Collar, Kill, and Capture Zone. The City of Treve is a pleasure city and as such is an adult sim: if you are easily offended by nudity and open BDSM content, the City of Treve is not for you. No one under the age of 18 is permitted.

The City of Treve is known in Gor as a "Bandit City".  We are raiders, mercenaries and only survive by what we take and steal. THAT includes Free Women not of Treve.

There is a note card in the TP spot called "RP Theme of Treve" if you chose not to read it and understand our RP and our behaviour, then please don't be offended when we don't behave and act like a "Normal SL" Gorean City, offering you tea and biscuits and a cosy cushion to sit on.

We also have the outpost of MINUS, a village in the foothills, this outpost is outside of Trevan IC Law, but not OOC rules... it is a lawless place, for trade and initial contact with the City of Treve.

If you are from a group/sim that has female fighters (Excluding panthers) your RP is INVALID. please don't kidnap slaves, FW etc. and take them to a place where there are female fighters. WE WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE IT HAPPENED and tell everybody to TP home...

THE CITY OF TREVE AND VILLAGE OF MINUS ARE BOTH WELL HIDDEN IN THE VOLTAI RANGE.  HAVE AN IC REASON FOR BEING HERE IF YOU ARE FROM A CULTURE THAT WOULDN'T NORMALLY FIND THEMSELVES WITHIN THIS AREA.  "TRAVELLING" FOR THE SAKE OF SUCH, DOES NOT CONSTITUTE A VALID REASON.

Don't RP anything that is not humanly possible, especially STAY OFF THE MOUNTAINS.

_____________SAFE ZONES______________

THERE ARE NO SAFE ZONES. Visitors/Raiders may only leave the sim from either the dock area or the burial/graveyard area.

_______OOC (Out of Character) RULES_____________
(Embedded “Treve Observer Tag”)

1. OBSERVERS and OOC VISITORS
Observers (those unfamiliar with Gorean culture) are not expected to do anything except wear an Observer Tag. If you wear this tag, you will be a non-roleplaying character and should not interact with the Goreans in the City in open chat.  If you are on a guided tour then you may speak with your guide in IM (instant message).

We welcome those who are new to Gor and if you wish to learn more, contact a member of the city in IM, then the member of the city can direct you to a person that can give you a guided tour and explain our lifestyle further.

Due to our RP Theme, we will not give IC Gorean Visitors a tour of our City.  These will always be OOC.

While in our city:

1.1. Only appropriate Gorean attire and weaponry is acceptable. Gorean culture is close to early medieval culture in weapons and clothing.

1.2. All characters in this city will be humanoid or Gorean animals and of a legal age (18). No childlike avatars allowed either. Not allowed are furries, sprites, undead, or other non-human avatars.

1.3. Griefers will never be tolerated. Griefing is defined as acts, verbal or physical, that cause a detriment to others' roleplay and SL experience without consent to do so.  All griefers will be banned. Goreans who break our rules and principles will be ejected and if three Council Members agree, a ban will be enforced on Goreans.

1.4. If you must use an alt, roleplay wisely; if the use of an alt causes problems of any kind (OOC or IC), all known alts of the person involved will be permanently banned.

1.5. No open Voice chat will be allowed in the sim.

____________RULES FOR COMBAT AND RAIDS__________

(Embedded Approved Weapons Notecard)

We tried not to impose special rules about raids, and we hoped common sense would prevail,   BUT that is not the case......

*Raid Rules Quick List:*

Raid Ratio: 1:1 roughly equal numbers
Binding: 3 emotes
Aiding: 1 emotes
Unbinding others: 2 emotes
Self-unbinding: No
Lockpicking: 3 emotes
Grapple/Ladder: 3 emotes

-------------------------------------------------------

IF YOU CAN'T WORK OUT HOW MANY DEFENDERS WE HAVE, CAM AROUND AND IM SOMEBODY WHO LOOKS OFFICIAL and ASK!!!    There is also now a ‘defender counter’ in the sim landing box.

Don't RP anything that is not humanly possible, especially STAY OFF THE MOUNTAINS.
You may use a ladder/grapple to climb the walls but RP in a realistic manner.
No returning or rescue attempts for at least ONE HOUR after raids.

Any breaking of rules or laws in Treve, especially during combat, will render combat invalid. No excuses.

(Start New Embedded “Raid Rules” Notecard - and yes we repeated the first part, on purpose)

We tried not to impose special rules about raids, and we hoped common sense would prevail, BUT that is not the case......

Raiders are allowed a 2:1 ratio of males as are in the city (sim) at the time of the raid. i.e., send out your Scouts or Spies, create an RP-scenario around the combat, and create a reason why you raid.

IF YOU CAN'T WORK OUT HOW MANY DEFENDERS WE HAVE, CAM AROUND AND IM SOMEBODY WHO LOOKS OFFICIAL and ASK!!!    There is also now a ‘defender counter’ in the sim landing box.

Note that although you may avoid the actual RP of these events (e.g. rape), they have still have happened and the consequences should be RP'd.

(End Embedded “Raid Rules” Notecard)

______________ROLEPLAY Guideline and Rules______________

1. Role play in this city will reflect as close as possible to the series of Gor books written by John Norman. The roleplay in this city is strictly Gorean. We do not allow modern or Lara Croft/Matrix type appearances or weapons.

2. Except as otherwise provided by this code, all activity in the City of Treve should be in the furtherance of role play. Players shall keep out of character (OOC) conversations to a minimum and must use IM or double parentheses (( )) in chat when speaking in out of character interpretations.

3. Each Caste will maintain and regulate its own guidelines and expectation for admission and continued acceptance into their Caste. Each individual Caste will also maintain its own Codes of Conduct. Should you wish to apply to join a Caste, IM the Chief Officer of that Caste, or admin if there is no chief, for further guidance.

4. All persons legally killed during roleplaying will be considered dead for a period of 24 hours (1 day). The dead may observe but not interact during these 24 hours. The dead may take the form of a ghost, no other worldly beings are permitted, (no skeletons, angels, etc.)
4.1 All kills must be notecarded and given to the Admin and must include a prior 30 minutes of Role Play. NO dash in and kill people.

5. Members of the Black Caste must follow the laws of Treve. The members of the Black Caste will be treated as any other stranger regarding access to the city, UNLESS they carry the seal of Treve and a contract from the members of the High Council of Treve. This seal of approval will be given in RP, IC through a meeting with a member of the High Caste and the Assassin, who will review the reason. IC we respect the role of the Black Caste and will give confidentiality assurances to the BC. If an Assassin fails to abide by this IC, then he do not receive the seal from Treve. Though only Black Caste carrying the official seal of Treve, will be granted access to the city. The Council will send an announcement that Black Caste are to have their movements in and out of Treve severely restricted. Of course do all BC, bearing the mark of the black dagger on their forehead tracking down a mark need to follow the Unified BC Guidelines for tracking down and killing people as well.

5.1 Members of the following castes: Players, Poets, Musicians, and Singers may also NOT freely enter the city. If they will enter the City they will be blindfolded/hooded and the members of these castes shall never be armed.

6. Free Women (special section so you know how to act as a Gorean Free Woman. Might help if you also read a Gor book so we don’t have to put this in)

(Embedded “FREE WOMEN Treve” Notecard)

7. Slaves General Rules - as well a special section

(Embedded “SLAVES – General Laws” Notecard)

-----IN CHARACTER LAWS-----

(Start new Embedded “IC Rules” Notecard)
______________Trevan Gorean Laws ______________

1. Free Men wishing to visit the city of Treve may have an issue, be prepared to remove ALL your weapons and be bound and blindfolded and be escorted by an armed guard.

2.Citizens and visitors to Treve, shall at all times demonstrate respect for the Trevan women.  We respect and protect our Free Women with the greatest of pride, considering them superior to all Gorean Women, even if they are spoiled and arrogant at times.

3. Crimes against the Home Stone, which might include, but are not limited to, theft of the Home Stone, vandalism of the Home Stone, treason, sedition, forgery of the city symbol on unapproved products, are subject to banishment, torture and death by impaling.

4. Any person may apply for Treve citizenship by getting an application from the Mailbox in the library and submitting it to a Council member.  A member of the High Council will contact the Applicant regarding the status of his/her application. Afterwards the Council (with at least three votes) will decide.  Your citizenship papers shall remain on file with the Scribes. Citizenship is a privilege, not a right, and thus it must be earned. You are expected to owe your allegiance to the city and work at supporting that city. All citizens shall show respect and deference appropriate to a free person's caste at all times.

5. Any form of spying in Treve, if found out, is punishable by death.

6. In the event that a citizen of the city wishes to change their Caste, a decision must be made by the Administrator/Ubar and agreed upon by both the elected High Member of the citizen's current Caste and their intended Caste.

7. Any citizen of the city may petition to be heard before the High Council of the city, for the purpose of proposing legislation or to air grievances. The citizen should first bring the matter to the elected high member of their respective castes by submitting a Writ of Grievance that can be obtained from any city Scribe. If of the lower castes, the elected high member of the lower caste will then bring the matter before the High Council. The passage of proposals into law will be approved or denied by decision of the High Council, however the Administrator has veto powers.  Any citizen may request an investigation of suspected illegal activity by lodging a citizen's inquiry with a magistrate or with one of their agents.

8. The judiciary, in both civil and criminal matters, will be upheld by the Caste of Scribes. Magistrates appointed by the Chief Scribe will preside over these proceedings. Judicial proceedings may be brought before the High Council upon the request of the presiding Magistrate or a member of the High Council.  In matters of a complaint of value greater than one silver, the defendant will have the option for a full hearing before a Magistrate.
Magistrates cannot preside over a case where they themselves are involved, whether they will stand to gain financially or otherwise.

9. The negotiation of trade or military alliances will be solely the responsibility of the High Council of the city. All alliances will be approved or denied by the High Council. Declarations of war may be made only by the High Council. All alliance documents will be filed in the Library.

(Special note: Treve defends its lands on its own; we stand alone and die alone. However, we will enter into agreements with other lands on the basis of our RP theme, which will usually be as Mercenary force or some other beneficial terms.)

10. A free person may challenge another free person to a duel, but that free person is not obligated to accept, unless the person is being challenged over ownership of a slave AND is a member of the Caste of Warriors. All duels and challenges between free people should be arranged between the parties involved and should take place in the Arena. In the case of non-Red Caste being challenged, the First Sword of the City will be the nominated to oversee that challenge.

11. Properly documented Fighting Slaves may only be used in defense of their owners or employers after the attacker approaches with a drawn weapon or during competition in the Arena. The use of male fighting slaves as offensive weapons will cause their Owners to be subject to imprisonment and/or enslavement. For further definition of the rules regarding Fighting Slaves see the Fighting Slave Permit available in the city Library.

12. All new city slaves are to report to the Head Slaver or the Kennel Mistress within 48 hours. Slaves will be given a new city slave folder and should begin to read and understand the slave guides. Any questions about slave guides should be brought to the Slavers or Kennel Mistress of Treve.

13. The slaver or citizen that has captured or otherwise collared the new city slave is required to provide documentation of collaring and file slave papers to the Kennel Mistress or Slaver within 24 hours. Kennel Mistress will file slave papers with the Scribes.   New slaves shall be seen by a Physician within two weeks to get their health examination.

________________ FREE WOMEN__________________
(In Concordance with the City  Laws)

This code and Gorean customs apply to citizen and non-citizen Free Women in the City of Treve. For purposes of this code:

1) Any panther girl, desiring entry into the city is to wear proper attire and refrain from wearing visible weaponry, as befits a Free Woman of Gor.  Those who break this law are subject to forced collaring for a period of at least 3 days.

2) Panther girls are not recognized as members of civilized society because they reject the collar as one of the three pillars of Gorean life.  No panther girl is exempt from these laws. Upon challenge by a Guard or Warrior having reasonable cause, a Panther shall identify her pack.

3) Female Outlaws and Mercenaries do not exist in Treve and are not allowed and will be collared and/or banned

4) Savage Barrens people, Wagon people, Torvaldslanders' customs will be observed in this city. ie, Free women and slave clothing, short bows and spears in possession of free women from these territories.

5) No Free Woman who may be asked or instructed to remove her veil for any reason, save by a magistrate preparing her for collaring.  The penalty for Illegal Face stripping (any face stripping done except at the order of magistrate) depending on the circumstance, will range from public flogging to impalement.

Free Women of the lower castes are not required to wear a veil but may if they wish to.

6) Free Women are allowed in the city tavern IF invited and escorted by a Free Male, BUT not MINUS.  If a FW is offended by what she sees in the trevian tavern then leave.

7)  A Free Woman can wear any modest jewellery she pleases, and may decorate herself however she likes except as outlined next in regard to earrings or the wearing of chokers that might resemble a collar. The only instance a Free Woman should wear earrings, is if she was previously a slave and her ears were pierced then. No Free Woman would willingly have her ears pierced.

Any Free Woman found to be carrying or brandishing illegal weapons will be subject to imprisonment and/or enslavement. Legal weapons for Free Women include daggers, whips, and hair pins. Examples of illegal weapons would be 'male weapons' such as, swords, long bows or any other large weapon, except in the case of those women who are of other tribes or Panthers which might use spears and bows. Free Women are not to engage in arena combat except during pre-arranged special events where they would be allowed to participate.

Cool Non-consensual sex with a Free Woman is illegal. Sex between a Free Woman and her Free Companion is conclusively presumed to be consensual.  FW may also couch their own red silk kajira/kajirus but are not to touch those owned by others. This is a collarable offense.

9)  A Free woman can sell herself into slavery but once the transaction is completed, it is too late for her to revoke it.

10) A Free Woman may voluntarily submit herself to another Free Person. Voluntary submissions must be witnessed by at least one other Free Person. The person receiving the submission may:
            A) accept the submission,
            B) in case of Warriors during a raid only, kill the person submitting, or
            C) accept the submission on behalf of the City of Treve, which shall be mandatory for submission received by guards, slavers, and persons acting as greeters for the city, provided that the collar may be private if both parties agree.

11) If a Free Woman kneels in nadu before a man, this is sufficient to make her a slave.  Her actions are interpreted as a gesture of submission. A Free Woman may kneel in the Free Woman tower pose (this is the same as the slave tower but do not cross their wrists before them or hold their palms up).

12) A Free Woman who is the Free Companion of another, will not be enslaved, unless by her act of submission.  However, in so taking this Free Companion as a slave, there should be some sort of compensation paid to her former Free Companion.

13) A Free Man who saves the life of a Free Woman and is not her Free Companion or Protector, thereby gains the right to enslave her or receive compensation in the amount of her fair market value as a slave. The Free Woman, her Companion, or her Protector may challenge a claim to such right, and the Administrator or the Magistrate will rule.

__________SLAVES - GENERAL LAWS ___________
(In Accordance with the City Laws)

Collaring and Submission in Treve

'Step before me naked,' said Rask of Treve. We faced one another, not speaking, he with his blade, and in his leather. I with nothing, stripped at his command.  'Submit,' he said. I fell to my knees before him, resting back on my heels, extending my arms to him, wrists crossed, as though for binding, my head lowered, between my arms.  I spoke in a clear voice. 'I, Miss Elinor Brinton, of New York City, to the Warrior, Rask, of the High City of Treve, herewith submit myself as a slave girl. At his hands I accept my life and my name, declaring myself his to do with as he pleases.'

Slave refers to any person owned by another person. Owner refers to a person who owns a slave.

"Own" and "Ownership" mean the right to possess and control a slave under these laws or the laws of a city recognized by the City of Treve and in accordance with submission statement from the slave.

1) A slave is the property of their Owner and may be used, disposed of, or destroyed as the Owner sees fit.

2) Any Treve Citizen who owns one or more slaves shall file all ownership records thereof with any Scribe of the City of Treve.

3) A Slave not properly registered with the city within two weeks of the Owner becoming a Citizen of the City of Treve or their collaring, whichever is later, shall be subject to seizure by the city.

4) No owner shall negligently allow his slave to be outside the owner's residence without a collar, which shall include a statement of ownership in her profile.

5) An uncollared slave entering Treve seeking a collar will be given a city collar. All slaves collared within the lands of Treve belong to the city first and will be branded as such. The kennels will own the  said slave and will remain the property of the city until Basic Training is complete before being offered back to her original captor, regardless of their previous skill level.

6) A runaway slave shall be held by the city.  If the Owner does not lay claim within seven days, the slave becomes the property of the City.

7) An Owner who fails to make inworld contact with his slave for a period in excess of 14 days shall be deemed to have abandoned them, and ownership of them shall automatically be conveyed to their Protector, the Owner's Free Companion, or the City, in that order. Likewise a slave who has not made inworld contact with their Owner for a period in excess of 14 days will be considered a runaway and hunted as such.

The freeing of a slave must be witnessed by at least one other Free Person. For a period of one hour after attaining freedom, the newly freed person shall be immune from forced collaring based on inappropriate attire. All records of the freeing of a slave must be filed with the Chief Scribe within one day.

9) No slave shall purposely or negligently strike a Free Person, except as described by the Fighting Slave Permit. Violation of this law is punishable by death.

10) No slave shall shall purposely or negligently bear or touch arms except at the direct instruction of their Owner and in the Owner's presence. It is an affirmative defense under this section that the slave is a Fighting Slave bearing arms at the direction of a Captain for contest purposes. However male fighting slaves must be properly documented to be able to wear or use weapons outside of the arena, they must also be accompanied by their owner or employer. Those not properly documented are subject to punishment up to and including death if the actions of the slave so warrants. Documented male fighting slaves may use the arena only if they are accompanied by their owner, protector, employer, the city lanista, or special consideration has been granted.

11) No person other than their owner shall purposely have sexual contact with a public or private white-silk slave.

12) The owner of a slave is liable: for damages resulting from his slave's actions; criminally for his slave's actions to the same extent as the slave, provided It shall be an affirmative defense to liability under this section that the owner took all reasonable measures to prevent the slave's action.

13) No person shall purposely interrupt a slave in the performance of any task assigned to them by their Owner.

14) No person shall purposely violate an Owner's restriction on their slave. Additionally, the perpetrator may be ordered to pay damages to the owner.

15) A Free Person may punish any slave at any time, for any reason, but shall be liable in damages to the owner for services lost as a result of harm to the slave.

16) There are 2 silk levels used in the City of Treve to help denote slave training and experience: White silks, and red silks (restricted and unrestricted).

17)  Slaves are expected to ask permission to leave if any Free person is in chat range. Exceptions would be if the Free do not answer after two requests are made, or a Free has already dismissed the slave.

18) Slaves of the city are not required to ask permission to enter public buildings. Slaves should ask permission to enter private quarters unless they have been invited to enter.

19) Slaves are not required to speak in third person.  If you wish to, that is fine, but it is not a forced issue, if a privately owned slave, it is up to your owner how you refer to yourself.

20) Slaves shall kneel in whatever manner they are told to by the Free. Except whitesilks.. they will always remain in tower.

21)  While city slaves are required to attend classes, privately owned slaves may also attend any and all city classes free of charge.
