There are many references to Treve within several Gorean Books, and one of the main characters associated with Treve was Rask.

I have tried to summarise below the general theme, behaviour , details and attitude of the city and citizens of Treve.

As many of you will see, Treve is not a typical Gorean Society, and Trevans are not typical Goreans.

Treve - "The Tarn of the Voltai"  --quotes from various passages.

High in the scarlet crags of the larl-prowled Voltai mountains, sits a Citadel of men who live off the plundering of other Cities....

Treve is a bandit city, high among the crags of the lari-prowled Voltai. Most men do not even know its location. Once the tamsmen of Treve had withstood the tarn cavalries of even Ar. In Treve they do not grow their own food but, in the fall, raid the harvests of others.

The men of Treve are said to be among the proudest and most ruthless on Gor. They are most fond of danger and free women, whom they bind and steal from civilized cities to carry to their mountain fair as slave girls.

The People of Treve, though living in appearance by Gorean City structures, live of the plunders of its Raiding Tarnsmen, and of the hunting of its huntsmen, raising and growing little food of their own and they tend to be arrogant about their lifestyle

No woman, it was said, could be brought to the city, save as a hooded, stripped slave girl, bound across the saddle of a tarn. Indeed, even merchants and ambassadors were permitted to approach the city only under conduct, and then only when hooded and in bonds

There are many more quotes similar, but in summary,  the men of Treve are:

1. They are Gorean raiders and hunters.
2. They take what we want and when we want from others.
3. They have been to initimidate, threaten to get what we want
3. They are ruthless to outsiders and their enemies.
4. Trevans are proud and arrogant... believing all other Goreans are inferior.
5. Citixens maintain the secrecy of the city.. bringing visitors into the walls blindfolded and tied up.
6. They have no  known alliances to help them defend... often isolated from most cities who regard them as enemies
7. Trevens have sold their services as mercenaries to other cities... especially naval cities requiring the need for skilled tarnsmans
8. Men of TReve are masters of the tarns and the skies of the Voltai... only Thentis is comparable in its skill of the tarn in war.

Also of note...

1. Trevans show great respect for the Free Women of Treve who are known as proud and spoiled women, reflecting their pride and arrogance of being part of Treve.
2. The men are known to have have a fondness for stroking the hair of their slaves and loved ones,
3. Trevans will caim to be from Minus rather than disclose their true identity whilst scouting and spying.
4. The Tarnsman of Treve arm themseves with spear, crossbow, long bow, sword and shield.

""I mounted my tarn, that fierce, black magnificent bird.  My shield and spear were secured by saddle straps; my sword was slung over my shoulder.  On each side of the saddle hung  a crossbow with a quiver of a dozen quarrels, or bolts, on the left, a longbow with a quiver of thirty arrows on the right." (Tarnsman of Gor, pg. 64) "

I hope this helps you all develop your character in the context of being a a citizen of Treve and that your role play is enriched with this characterisation of the community you belong to.

how do people get to Treve nowadays? In short, because it has been roleplayed differently by incoming visitors.

Very few people know the location of the city.  So, as our OOC Rules and Laws state, there should be no IC visitors at the gates.

It is more commonly known in Gor that men of Treve often claim to be from the village of Minus.  Someone hoping to contact Treve, would ask around Minus.  Eventually, a guardsman or rarius will arrive.  If they deem it appropriate for the visitor to go to the city, the guardsman would disarm to the extent he saw fit, bind if necessary, blindfold, and or hood the visitor before calling the Tarnsman to transport the visitor to the city.  The same would be done in reverse to dismiss him or her.

Anyone finding their way to the gates or into the city must have a plausible, valid, rp basis for having knowledge of the location of the city.  Old roleplays, especially those that took place before the merger, are invalid.

Anyone with such knowledge would be viewed to be a threat by current citizens and would not be allowed to leave without some form of leverage to ensure they maintain confidence.

Anyone interested in the rp of Treve, considering applying for citizenship, or new to gor, should switch to ooc or wear an observer tag and not engage in rp.

Sophia and I did this very well... we met a man in Minus.. denied knowing where Treve was when he asked, suggested it was an old wives tale etc etc sat with him in the tavern... questioned him politely in an RP context why he wanted to go there.. and sophia confirmed it in IM that he wanted to join.

I hooded him, took via tarn to the city gates and inside the city, I untied him and removed his hood and we in RP introduced ourselves and it continued from there. A nice mix of OOC in IM and IC RP.

and more importantly, he will hopefully continue that type of RP when meeting other strangers looking for Treve.

simply put

a) we deny there is such place.
b) find out why they want to go and make a decision if we want to take them.
c) hood them and guide them there if appropriate.

Yes this is vital information. For me as a FW, if I chance upon a stranger, (any Free), what should I do? I mean I can't hood a man. So is it acceptable if I sent word out throught the group IM about any unfamiliar men heading towards the city?

So far as slaves go, I encountered one unfamiliar slave who claimed to be lost and cross and suspicious as I was, I sent her packing. OOC I had to log off thus the route I took.

Wanita, you should be very wary of strangers in Minus.  Although the guardsmen and rarii may patrol the area, your safety there cannot be guaranteed.  You should consider Minus as a dark alley in a bad part of town.  That said, you cannot allow anyone to see you running up to the city either, thereby revealing the location.  You should roleplay sending a message somehow.  otherwise get to safety (via the docks, or hide in one of the apartments) and then send word.  If you can do it without being seen, hurry and call the city tarnsman to pick you up, then inform the city when you arrive.

Unfamiliar or foreign slaves in Minus?  Strange.  What plausible reason would she have to be there?  I say her fate is in the hands of he or she who finds her, wandering, in Minus or the Territory of Treve.

@alana
girls venturing outside the gates is a matter for their owners to decide.  slaves weren't always aware of the way from Minus to the city themselves.  this kept them obedient.  if they are allowed down to minus, they are beyond the protection of the city, as is anyone else.  also, they must never be followed or seen returning.

Thanks Loki. As always, I always inform the Rarii or on one occasion, the Ubara of any strangers that I have encountered in Minus and yes, if I do make my way to the city, I always make sure no stranger is able to pin point my taken route.

My last encounter I managed to escape to safety when I came out of a building and as I turned a corner on the cobbled street, I was met up with a pack of wood sluts with their bows drawn.

Alas!... the troubling life of a dweller in Minus  Cry

It is good that this is addressed so that others may be informed.

perfectly acceptable.... if SL allowed a "shout" to carry more than 70m the city would hear it.  So it seems to me perfectly acceptable to ring the bell and for communication to cut and paste it into Group Chat.

There is a maker who has a bell that will ring you no matter where you are in SL. it is a whisper, and comes out in open chat. If you do not pay attention, you could miss it, but, that travels farther, should you like.

the word is "HELP THEM".. and no we dont use anybody to help us defend. Cos have found a way of getting the use of our warriors to defend their islands and join them against their enemies....  BUT .. you wont find them helping us to defend our home Wink

as for Rask... the Rask character in the books and is a well known mercenary captain of Treve who  swoops in and carries off the women

in SL...there was a man called Rask over 12 months ago..he seems to have left second life
