I think we have talked about this before but the current construct lumping all of the same caste into a library or infirmary is not something found in the books. The person who ran the library was likely a librarian. A physician would not need a title for their own practice. A good example is Flaminius in the house of Cernus. It really didn't exist. Before his time in the House of Cernus Flaminius appears to be responsible for the research facility in Ar but that does not mean that is why/how he earned his title. I see him as being a Chemist/Researcher with no need for titles. That is more of an earth thing for ranking that you just don't really see in the books either because depth was shallow (no five layers of management) or they just didn't care. You have the role they chose and an apprentice and what appears to be an acknowledgement of who was the most "learned" and an administrative council position(s). I would love to see government and roles defined in a way that was closer to the books because they would really add tremendously to RP.
ETA: This does vary in the Warrior Caste where you do see some insight into military structure but even there it is usually played poorly in SL Gor. First Sword for instance meant the most skilled sword and he may or may not be in a position of authority.
I sort of always pictured the Caste in Ar as being very large (Ar was a huge city), and more...hmm...almost like a large University, perhaps? With very academic, intelligent people collaborating and perhaps even arguing and debating back and forth. Perhaps in such a large city as Ar, there could have been a need for a full-blown Council of Physicians because there were so many physicians in the city? I mean, think about it, you have soooo many specialties within the Caste, as well as with a large city like that, you'd have research installations, perhaps even large-scale hospitals, and then wealthy households and slave houses might also be employing numbers of physicians to care for their occupants.
I would imagine that there might be a council of each of the larger castes, just to account for the fact that you had a massive number of members in the city, and sometimes the caste is gonna have to get shit done (and that generally works best, it seems, when there's democracy, unless it's during time of war, hence the Administrator vs. Ubar argument).
I, too, would looove to see this played out in SL Gor, but I don't think we have the numbers to exactly pull it off. When you add in the fact that everyone in Gor wants to be a Chief, and very few want to be Indians, well...

It's kind of a pipe dream (but a good one!!).
