The original post from Reven asked what do Free want to see in slaves role play and not what they don't like.

And THIS is one of the things that concern me.  Why?  Because it seems that the current trend is what other role players expect/want/demand whatever from the other role players who play slaves.  I think it would be equally fair if a thread were started and titled "The Free" with a question or rant from the slaves to share their thoughts, ideas, wants, expectations etc. from the other role players who are "free" in character.  Why should the slaves (in an OOC sense) have to cater and tweak and adjust their role play or characters or personalities to suit others?  Seems a bit silly when there are some pretty SORRY Free men and women role players who toss out weak posts, boring role play and have little to no sense of what THEIR own roles dictate or require.   

How many Free women have you met that act like total whores?  How many Free men have you come across who can think of nothing interesting to do or say to a slave other than requesting a serve?  Bah.  Double standards ... this is not something that should be prevalent in a role play environment.  We are ALL involved and everyone has a say, part, right to role play how they see fit and not have to worry about someone shooting from the hip to always be complaining about stupid nonsense.

As I have said in some of my other posts, I see plenty of awful slaves who think they are acting out a Disney princess role and I have seen Free treating the good slaves like they were not even part of the scene.  Balance.  There has to be a balance.

I thought Shyla had a very good point in the "Slaves" thread, so for the sake of balance, let's hear it.  What would slave players like to see in a free person, male or female?

Free Men:  I expect a Man be a Man.  Too many times I have seen situations where a FM doesn't take action where they should.  I can remember a time I saw a fight between two free women.  Both ended up half butt ass naked.  Yet of the 10 men watching not one jumped to collar either of them.  I remember thinking to myself...gee...what sort of guidelines are we going by here where no woman is in jeopardy of a collar, or any negative consequence, no matter what she does because the Men can seem to be arsed with keeping them in line, or in their place.  I would really like to see FM remember that Gor is a mans world...I expect a Man to be Man...

Free Women:  I don't have too many dealings with FW, but I have seen a few cases where a few seem to be dressed...questionably...I would expect a FW to have on more clothing than I do :/  If i confuse you for a slave on a BTB sim and you are a FW...something...isnt right...

It can make you somewhat complacent if in your role you are held to firm standards but the world around you isn't.

I was in that fight!  LOL.  And, it was an outlaw village, so the men where just betting on us.  I doubt men in a city would have put up with that at all.

It's more about where is the line?  You allow one behavior and then another and another and so on...and then it becomes this HUGE blur where FW are placed above FM.  I'm just saying!  Even with as entertaining as it was...your FW boobages are like a gateway drug

Addition to stay on topic:  I'm not only speaking to that one case as there have been countless others.  I'm just saying I expect a Free Man to act in accordance with what is in his rights... and not be trampled on by ill acting FW (or slaves for that matter).  I don't look to be coddled or anything like that, I expect to be held to the standards of the role I play and all the consequences that come with it.  And by the same token I would expect the same to be upheld for other roles.  If i cant spread my legs before a "modest" FW,...it doesn't make a lot of sense for me to see her titties bouncing everywhere because she isn't covered "appropriately"...

Please keep in mind, that we only collar what we want and maybe both women just haven't been interesting enough for any man to be put in prison before both could have been brought in front of the village elder or the magistrat.

It's really a sad state of affairs when it comes to SL gor when Elle in her longer then normal skirt (as seen in SL gor), her bare shoulders and tits hanging out is mistaken for a free woman!  Slaves didn't wear vajayjay bearing garments in the books  - they were described at times as wearing long draped looks. The thing that seemed to make them "slave" was the appearance of shoulders. 

Anway back to the OP. 

Free Men - Be confident and commanding in your presence even if your words are sparing. Don't think that the only way to be Gorean is to whip me or punish me or send me off on some task. Think outside of the box when it comes to slaves - we aren't all pain sluts or cocktail waitresses!  Women were chosen often as slaves for the looks AND for the intellect. Above all, don't treat me like I am some child either - STOP THE MADNESS - dont call me little one.

Free Women - If you want to be a slut then go be slave.  Imagine yourself a proper elegant woman:  Would Michelle Obama or Barbara Walters act all collar baity in public? I don't think so.  And don't run up to me during a scene with other slaves and yell "GO DO SOMETHING!"  Take the time to see what we talking about or doing then try and join in.

I would ask, why do we need to collar everything that acts up?  As Conall said, men only collar what is personally of interest to them, what they want to have at their feet begging for their touch.  Men collar desirable women, not bitchy naked ones.

It was talked about in the Slaves thread that men tend to want women to be women, to be full of life and personality, not being cookie cutter.  It seems the reverse is true for men though....that if we are not that cookie cutter GRR ARGGG collar you now ass hat we are not considered true Gorean men.

As for the two women fighting there are several factors involved, for Ven at least, that come into play before he may or may not do something.
- Are they of his home stone, or of the city he serves and therefore outside of his capture rights.  That is a key thing for Ven, not every woman is collarable by him, the codes suggest that one protects the status of certain women. 
- Are either of the women of his household?  If so punishment will be forthcoming but this recent rash of temp collar and beat a FW black and blue won't happen in his household.  and if you think that is too soft, try asking his first FC about matters.
- Are either woman of his caste and thereby shaming his caste by acting in such way.
- Are either of the women of interest to him.

I find it amusing that for years heard the behind the back comments regarding Ven, especially due to his lack of not punishing free women in public.  That because of not making a spectacle out of things he was not a true man.   


Think all roles need to have a basic understanding of the essentials for that role, the common behavioral framework from which you then add on the personality and quirks of the character.  Can you have a slutty FW...of course, but have to accept that might end up collared, or that others will ignore or insult you. 

I have to say though at times when you have a FW that plays out being a prim proper high woman...and she has an AO that has moves that would make a pleasure slave blush, you might want to rethink certain things.

Free Men:  I expect a Man be a Man.

I see this a lot - in profiles, in forums, in conversations. What people seem to forget is that Gor was NOT full of dominant men, but that Gor was a planet on which men are dominant by default. There would be some men that would enjoy being all masterly dominant macho man, but other who just want to be... well, men who are deemed dominant by their society.

Ask ANY real life dominant (experienced one). We do not like having to be "always on" and the same applies to anyone playing a truly realistic character.

Free Woman would range from she-urts to ubaras, peasents to high caste.  I love seening people roleplay them differently!  From fights in the streets to tea in the inn.  

What I don't like to see is woman showing too much breasts or legs.  Woman that send slaves away from rp for poor reasons.  Woman that are overly confrontational with men and don't have the grace to accept the punishment when it happens, or who learn nothing from being punished.

Now, about free men..lol.  My biggest pet peeve about free men are the ones the roleplay such distain for ALL free woman.  I would just emote or say that their mother must not have hugged them enough to foster such feelings.

I'm not saying you have to, but when women are allowed free reign to do whatever they please with no consequence well... It just turns into a group of men who look as if they are being lead around by their dicks...

As I said, where is the line?  I'm not talking about a bit of personality.  I'm talking behavior from a FW that would be expected from a Slave.  Not saying slap your personal collar on it either.  But where is the consequence at all if no man ever takes ANY action?  ((generally speaking and not true of all men of course)).  It isn't limited to just dress either.  I have seen FW take being free as a golden ticket to being able to speak any way they wish.  I'm not sure how that includes being insulting or demeaning to FM without fear of retribution.  If a man wishes to be so submissive perhaps he should be playing the slave instead?   I would just expect a Man to take a stronger stance... or maybe any stance at all...

I see a vast difference between letting a woman do whatever she wants to and letting a woman reap what she sows, or even finding humor in a woman's antics. I personally like a man that understands he does not have to throw a collar on everything with breasts that acts out. A man that understands that sometimes letting the free woman embarrass herself while he laughs at her, or places bets on her that she'd win - lose - end up in the infirmary - be arrested, is a real man in my book.

I believe that the general male population of Gor is exhausted from putting slaves and women in their place. I'd like to see Free Women be the prudes we're well known for and learn to have some fun with men without having to resort to slutty ways to obtain it. Of course dress is a big thing but that should be a given. OH and those AO's. Yes, please women, take the flirty slave AO's off!

and you're right, they probably are exhausted.  I'm sure the issue existed long before i was around.  It would just be nice to see FW play a BTB FW instead of acting as a slave would at times ...and the same for Men.  I suppose it's give and take, good and bad.

I have a more colorful interpretation of how a free woman should act, there is so much more to the role of  than the frigid woman that so many expect us to be.

The scene when Dina of Turia offers herself to Tarl, teasing him about not being able to afford a slave, and not ending up collared over it makes me smile. The part where the young free woman is screaming at the man because the wind blew her veils, and then she pretends not to know him when her parents arrange a companionship makes me laugh!  Or the she-urts hovering around in little packs, all offended that a slave dared to try and be one of them only to scurry off when threatened by some men.  All these scenes and more show that there is more to being a free woman than sniffing in distain at slaves and drinking tea. 

I’ve always wondered as well.  Free woman that were once slaves…are they expected to be frigid once again?  How would they be expected to tame the fires that man brought out in them?

I look at it this way.  In regards to slapping a collar on someone, the moment you do that, you are responsible for that person.  Not all men see it that way, but I do.  Whether it means they spend all their time with you, or share your tent, whatever, they are yours until you take action to sever the owner/property relationship.  

I take it seriously which is why I hardly ever own slaves.  Sometimes it is hard for me because I have so many other responsibilities--Caste duties, training, contracts, admin, BC mod, etc--but I do my best.  

Same goes for a captive.  A captive is a liability until you kill or release them in the sense that while they are in your custody they could try to escape, kill someone doing so, they will need to be watched like a hawk, bla bla bla.  

So would I as a man be inclined to slap a collar on every FW I see acting up?  Not unless I wanted to be a slaver and have a harem so big it would make a Sultan blush.  It's easier sometimes to ignore the behavior and go on your merry way.  Some FW out there are committing "suicide by cop" and forcing the issue because they WANT you to collar them, which puts the FM in a bad position because he is forced to act or look like he doesn't give two shits if he doesn't.
