What would in your opinion be a better "difference" in male and female combat strength on the GM meter?

Currently the GM meter has the optional region setting of "weaker females". Which means that a female avatar will take 15% more damage from all incoming attacks. Even if the hit indicator will say 40% damage, in reality they'll have taken 46% damage. (*Just confirmed this in testing with Kara Markova*)

I think a lot of people agree that the difference isn't big enough for a BtB setting and thus barriers and artificial OOC rules need to be put in place to avoid women winning a fight over an entire Red Caste. So what -would be- a better difference in damage taken?

And if let's say a Red Caste would only have to swing his sword once to take down a panther, would you still put up an artificial OOC rule to prevent panthers (or perhaps the odd crazed armed Free Woman) from trying to go violent in and on your city walls?

Perhaps the setting could be added as "Gorean city" to the optional GM region settings? So panthers still can have the same fighting power on their own turf, but severely weakened in a gorean city.

Well, the meter is ok, for the most part, as it stands. possibly if the reporting was a bit more inclusive.
Now I am not a scripter or builder so I am not sure how all that works but

1)Make the registering of hits show male female. You get to choose your gender in putting on the meter. NOw I know somw will say that the "voice" used at hits is revealing gender, I do not run with sound most days. And if I do and get into a battle who is grunting?

2) Make the meter register how the opponent is blocking shielding and with what. Shields as in a arm held shield or attaced hud shields whuch are illegal.

3) Make the meter register number of weapons struck with. As I understand it, you can wield 2 swords and it registers only one hit.

I didn't vote because I don't think gender has any bearing on how many hits it takes to down someone. Flesh is flesh.

Now if you mean how many hits would it take a female compared to a male and vica versa? Then I might have an input. I'd personally like to see a bit more tailoring of the overall meter settings to account for a body wearing no to little protection (i.e. naked slave to one wearing nothing but robes) compared to some level of leather which should absorb a bit more of a hit. Guess that takes it back to the days of an armor class systems that accounts for what is being worn. But that may require clothing/armor creators to somehow tie directly into the meter so the meter tracks the armor class rather than trusting the individual to be honest about the settings.

But this is a reoccuring topic that seems to generate discussion but never any results except for resurrecting the topic of LCS.

Wouldn't it be more Btb to have 4 settings (in order of strength) - Warrior -> Free Man -> Panther -> Free Woman/Slave?

With perhaps the current difference between Male and Female being the same for FM and Panther, and stronger settings for warriors and weaker for non-combattant-type women such as FW and slaves?  I would imagine that a panther girl would be better able to withstand damage than a slave or FW not used to combat at all, as I would expect a warrior to be stronger and able to take pain better than a scribe or merchant.

No becuase a slave cna just show her titties, and would distact the warrior, so that the panther could cap and rape him , all while he cuts and pastes the action to the free man , in ims , therefore making the free man jelous and promptly killing the slave, leaving the only one left a free woman in her city bored, and complaining that free men only rp with panthers.

So who constitutes a warrior?  Anyone who can swing a sword?  a Scribe can swing a sword does that mean he can be a Warrior? Is an assassin a warrior?  would a slave be stronger or weaker that an free woman?

If you look back at the LCS Meter, and the harrowing debates that resulted in that, which, BTW, totally took the attention away from how actually GOOD the Meter was... people didn't like the notion of one setting being stronger or weaker than the other, even when other factors, like speed and resilience were factored in to compensate.  I fought tooth and nail to get people to even LOOK at the meter, and when they DID, I received a load of positive feedback, but to no avail.

Personally I find even the SUGGESTION of changing the settings of the meter Ironic because many of the naysayers told me if it ain't broke... don't fix it..

I like them equal. We can't have the men getting lazy, can we? As far as I'm concerned these numbers aren't what makes an RP environment BTB. It's the roleplay that makes or breaks BTB. Max damage is just icing on the cake and personally I like to stick my finger in that.

In reality, strength is only one factor and not even the most important one in wielding weapons in combat. It's far more often about energy, balance, being grounded and centered, how you approach and engage the opponent, focus, speed, technique, flexibility, intuition, self-trust, flow, etc. It doesn't really matter how hard you hit if you're already beheaded by the time your blade meets its target.

Gorean warriors are superior because John Norman says so. Most panther girls, on the other hand, are all boobs, blond hair, and arrows with 12 year old boy strength and a biological penchant for enslavement. They have to be defeated because John Norman says so. Forget that panther girls are out there wrestling with vicious Gorean forest panthers and sleen, skinning them like savages, wearing their skins, and surviving off the land. Forget that they are intelligent, fast, and keen to their own environment. Panther girls are nothing more than disoriented collar meat in need of appropriate male guidance and direction.

Yes, all true.  And I would assume red caste and assassins would have more of all that prowess than your average scribe, merchant, baker, green, builder, etc., and a panther or taluna would have more of all that prowess than your average FW or kajira.

Maybe in Torvaldsland or in other places which don't have castes like the cities do, this might not be the case for the men, but as a rule, a full-time warrior would be better trained and better able to fight and win, than your average scribe.

Otherwise, you wouldn't need a special caste of warriors to defend your city, would you?

why not go retro active, and use mykels meter ((is that how you spelt his name?))

had classes, effects of combat, status of side effects

oooo yeaahhh...folks hated the part where he judged all ge sims that are non compatible and removed their use of the system

the meter works, you hit the person and they hit you back, until one of you pass out

maybe you should look at the quality of the roleplayers instead?

It's fine the way it is. Women are not physically as strong as men, but neither are we total weaklings. Trust me, I can pick upten larmas and hit you in the balls before you see me. I should gert points for that.  Wink And if a man happens into a dark forest inhabited by panthers, she has the home feild advantage as welll as a strong body from physical labor.  It would be unfair to burden her with an unrealistic weaker females option which would make it impossible for her to win on her own territory.
