Malcomb of Treve

« 26. October 2010, 22:34:43 »

I am honored to be the first to post a RP on the new board.  This entry describes a fun little job we did in Tancred's landing, I want to discuss both the IC and OOc aspects of how this was done, as it was very fun, involved 4 sims, and did not once require a mod be called.

It started as an idea to hijack a ship in port.  I went to see vivienne in Tancred's and we talked it over.  Some ground rules were established up front.
  • We agreed that we would not take captives, not thegoal of this raid.
  • We decided to use the new LCS system to try it out.  It worked fine, and we got no serious complaints about it.
  • They agreed to waive the raid ratio, knowing we would attack with 4 men, and they would defend with only two.  My hat is off to Vivenne and Tancred's for playing so well in this RP.

((all chat logs were modified to remove on line and other notices, and fix a few typos.))

Briefing and preparation as the team comes together

[15:47]  Randal Gloom: thats not a problem
[15:47]  Malcomb Danitz: this is not a Treve raid, you see,
[15:48]  Malcomb Danitz: so anythhing that identifies you as Venna or Treve nees to hide.
[15:48]  Vido Sciarri: jonas you need this new meter mate

[15:53]  Randal Gloom: i dont quite grasp sword fighting
[15:53]  Malcomb Danitz: ok, so Randal is bow, and the rest of us swords.
[15:55]  Malcomb Danitz: ok. the attack is like this: Randal, stay back and use bow. Vido and i will storm the ship. Jonas, will attack the trade post.
[15:56]  Malcomb Danitz: we will see what really happens once it starts, but that gives each of you an idea.
[15:56]  Malcomb Danitz: i only expect 1 or 2 defenders
[15:56]  Malcomb Danitz: Jonas, do you use the GM shields?
[15:56]  Jonas Kozlowski: yes
[15:56]  Jonas Kozlowski is Online
[15:56]  Malcomb Danitz: rthis is different
[15:57]  Malcomb Danitz: you must tap the shield for it to work, cant hold it down.
[15:57]  Malcomb Danitz: but i expect htis to be more RP than fighting
[15:58]  Randal Gloom: ok
[15:58]  Randal Gloom: what are we waiting for then?
[15:58]  Malcomb Danitz: ok, i am going!

At this point the raid was over, and we had a ship laden with cargo.  They pathetic efforts of four landlubbers to wrest the ship to our port will not be detailed here, but we are lucky that some of us did have sailing experience.

Malcomb of Treve

« 26. October 2010, 22:36:00 »
We sailed to a secret place to dispose of our cargo.  I had made prior arrangements to sell the goods, not thinking it wise to steal a ship and keep it under my pillow looking for a market.

=============================================================================

[16:09]  Malcomb Danitz: excuse me, i seem to be lost
[16:10]  Malcomb Danitz: Tal lilith
[16:11]  Malcomb Danitz: (( trying to find the dock ))
[16:11]  Lilith Illyar keeps her voice low and points to her left.
[16:14]  Malcomb Danitz: ok, men GM stuff again now
[16:14]  Malcomb Danitz: we are at xxxxxxxx, in the xxxxxxx.
[16:14]  Malcomb Danitz: i am a member of a group, and this is our ... storeroom.
[16:14]  Randal Gloom: boy had been behaving like a battle eager lout and a half wit, sending arrows at all sides until they lost their tail
[16:15]  Vido Sciarri: with a steel look in his eyes he pulls out his trusty weapons and prepares to do battle no matter what the odds
[16:15]  Vido Sciarri: pull out his bow and notches an arrow ready to shoot
[16:16]  Vido Sciarri: settle down son
[16:16]  Malcomb Danitz: ok, we are about to be met. Weapons away.
[16:16]  Malcomb Danitz: all weapons away, but handy
[16:18]  Malcomb Danitz steps forward to greet his contact. As i said, lady, A ship with 10k stone of goods, mostly iron, and some blackwine as well.
[16:18]  Vido Sciarri goes to pull on his beard but remembers just in time that its stuck on with custard " tal" i say in a heavily put on voice
[16:18]  Randal Gloom remained at the back standing guard with bow ready at hand he made sure they would not fall prey to an ambush
[16:19]  Malcomb Danitz intentionally avoids any introductions, and leaves his mask in place. "do you wish to inspect it now?"
[16:19]  Jonas Kozlowski looks around the unknown land
[16:19]  Lilith Illyar approaches and stops when she reaches earshot of the men without having to shout their business. Her eyes meet Malcomb's over both their masks. "Greetin's to ye." There is no use disguising much on her as her height and hair are like no other females. "Ye'd be doin' as we'd agreed then. Let's be seein' it." Her eyes never remain still, scanning the land.
[16:20]  Malcomb Danitz wordlessly turns to the boat. "Aye, you will be pleased."
[16:21]  Lilith Illyar moves to Malcomb's side.... silver orbs doing a rapid initial assessment of the vessel. "She'd be lookin' seaworthy. Few dings... but normal."
[16:22]  Malcomb Danitz: "its a sturdy little cog, and worth as much as half the cargo. I feel no need for a boat, myself." he beams with pride at his haul, and waits her word on value.
[16:24]  Lilith Illyar studies the craft... tilting her head.... eyes narrowing as she gazes upon it. "I'd be seeing the good afore we'd be talkin' further." Without waiting she boards (pretending) and throws open the cargo doors. Her hands had never strayed far from daggers as she had done so.
[16:26]  Randal Gloom: stood with his first arrow notched and eyes scanning the horizon for any imminent threat, he kept frosty
[16:26]  Randal Gloom: looking back nervously to the trade they were commencing, wishing it was all over already and they left with their rightfully earned pay
[16:26]  Malcomb Danitz watches her sort through the cargo, and smiles at her caution. "It will be a good earner for all of us."
[16:28]  Lilith Illyar hands raked through the beans... lifting them to her nose and sniffing... then allowing them to fall back through her fingers. Moving over to the portion of the hull that contains the iron... one curved Turian dagger leaves its sheathe, as silent as a whisper of the dead, and uses the end of it to tap on the metal to judge the quality by the ring of it. Without speaking, she stands... only a nod indicates she has made a decision. She moves back to the dock... once more to Malcomb's side. Not one to rush business... "Ye and yer men are welcome to be comin' into the meetin' hall. The goods'd be safe enough here."
[16:28]  Vido Sciarri: .me casually inspects his finger nails never having really been apraised of the full plan but watching it come together "one would hope so M.............harry"
[16:29]  Malcomb Danitz knows the iron is sound and well milled, cast ingots for a smith to use. "The hall is fine then." he motions to his men "Let's go , lads."
[16:30]  Front Door: Lilith Illyar is at the door.
[16:31]  Lilith Illyar locks the door behind so that no unwelcome guests can follow. With a gesture, she motions to the servery. "There'd be plenty to be drinkin' and eat. Have yer fill."
[16:31]  Malcomb Danitz: "No slaves?" he looks at her a wide grin, but seats himself at the table. "Can ya find your way clear to set some mead, lady?"
[16:32]  Vido Sciarri i hold up my hand " none for me lady i dont drink"
[16:33]  Randal Gloom: was the last one to follow and close the door behind them and just since he trusted nobody he would make his way upstairs first and check the place making sure it wasnt a carefuly constructed ambush they were talking into
[16:33]  Lilith Illyar lifts a brow... giving Malcomb a sharp glance. "Here ye'd be helpin' yerself. If'n yer legs be broke, ye'd be mighty thirsty." For one that has resided mostly in a cave, this was the extent of her social graces. "Now... we'd be talkin' value. What'd ye be thinkin' she's worth?"
[16:34]  Vido Sciarri smiles a little ans is happy he didnt ask for anything the smile becomes a chuckle
[16:35]  Randal Gloom: "all clear lads" he gave them a nod as he walked down back to the door where he stood at guard
[16:35]  Vido Sciarri: "wel done laddie i am proud of you"
[16:35]  Lilith Illyar rests elbows on her knees... then lifts one hand to remove the mask... which had not been worn for their benefit as it were to begin with.
[16:36]  Randal Gloom: grinned under his mask "I have a good lineage behind me"
[16:37]  Malcomb Danitz settles himself to talk the horse trade. At 20 coppers a stone in Ar for iron, the metals itself is worth 10,000 silvers. Then that ship, and other cargo is worth another 5,000 to the right buyer. But i do understand the 'discount' nature of this transaction. So why dot we say 10,000 silver for the entire shittery?"
[16:40]  Lilith Illyar replies in her slow, methodical way of doing business... first unhooking the cloak and letting it drop from her shoulders... unlashing the flask at her waist and drinking of the ale within it and replacing it before finally answering. "Ye'd be figurin' a mite high, trader. Yer figurin' if a buyer could be found fer the tub." Her eyes meet his... all of this pure business and expected.
[16:41]  Malcomb Danitz: (( OOC comments from the victims: 16:44]  Malcomb Danitz nods at her expected reaction, and makes his best tharlarion traders face. "I can see your concern, and of course you take a business risk, as we risked our lives, Lady. But i am willing to be reasonable and take half the full value, lets agree to 8,000."
[16:46]  Lilith Illyar steel gray gaze locks with his... her face the essence of stone. "Aii... I'd be seein' ye riskin' yer life. It'd be the same to be findin' her buyer." Taking a deep breath as if it's a great effort to turn loose of such coin... "I'd be offerin' ye 6000." Her gaze never waivers.
[16:47]  Vido Sciarri makes no comment or sign on hs face but is not finding it easy considering the numbers being discussed
[16:48]  Malcomb Danitz settles back then stands and head to the mead barrels "Done!" he proclaims, the haul being more than he had hoped.""let drink to a fine start to a fruitful relationship!" He stomps over with a broad smile and pours himself some mead.
[16:49]  Lilith Illyar watches him agree so readily... and only then does she smile... sharp teeth glittering. "Aii... to many more."
[16:51]  Malcomb Danitz lifts the tankard of mead, unfamiliar, as he normally uses a horn, but he still slurps is deeply. "Drink up boys, then we are off home."
[16:51]  Lilith Illyar leans back on the cushion... relaxing now that the discussion of business is concluded. Her eyes follow Malcomb... "Do ye want to be collectin' yer coin tonight or will ye be by to be gettin' it?"
[16:52]  Vido Sciarri: "i think tonight if you have it lady" i chime in bfore anyone can answer
[16:52]  Randal Gloom: came into the middle and took up the vessel rissing it in a toast "for gold and glory"! he cried and poured the drink over his shoulder
[16:52]  Malcomb Danitz looks down to her and grins. "tonight indeed." the mead is again assaulted, and he looks a triumphant smile to his fellows
[16:53]  Vido Sciarri: "he has always had a drink problem, that is finding his mouth "
[16:53]  Lilith Illyar nods... "Well enough," and stands. "I'd be sayin' fer ye to stand here... no one'd be follow'n me. There'd be some dangerous spots fer those that ain't familar." Her face gives them a knowing look.
[16:54]  Malcomb Danitz: "we will await you here"
[16:55]  Lilith Illyar pauses before the door... listening for any movement outside before she opens it and long legs carry her swiftly to her destination toward the black caste camp.
[16:55]  Front Door: Lilith Illyar is at the door.
[16:55]  Vido Sciarri: anything comes in that door thats not that woman with the coin is going down
[16:56]  Vido Sciarri: with a steel look in his eyes he pulls out his trusty weapons and prepares to do battle no matter what the odds
[16:56]  Vido Sciarri: pull out his bow and notches an arrow ready to shoot
[16:56]  Malcomb Danitz: Fair enough, mates.
[16:57]  Randal Gloom: yawned "they wont dare"
[16:57]  Randal Gloom: tis profitable for us all, they have no reason to betray us.. I dont think
[16:57]  Malcomb Danitz refills the tankard, and hits it hard, tops it, and stands back.
[16:57]  Front Door: Lilith Illyar is at the door.
[16:57]  Vido Sciarri " where there is much silver at stake you would be surprised what people would dare
[16:58]  Randal Gloom: see - he shruged seeing the woman return
[16:58]  Lilith Illyar walks in... holding her skirt up with the coins carried loose in it. Letting the hem drop.... the equivalent of gold falls to the floor and cushions.
[16:59]  Malcomb Danitz watches her fine figure as she enters, and he smiles warmly to her, all the more lovely for the coin she carries.
[17:00]  Randal Gloom: gasped seeing such an ammount earned in a day's work., eyes shifting to his father, smilling
[17:00]  Malcomb Danitz: "so for shares it 'll be 1,200 per man. I need a bit more to cover my expenses." He starts to portion out the gold and silver, allotting 1,200 silvers to each of the three men. "Plenty more coming in the future lads."
[17:00]  Lilith Illyar motions to the pile of glittering metal laying at her feet. "It'd not be silver, but I think ye'd find it spendable."
[17:01]  Malcomb Danitz: "gold is easier to pack, lady, and always welcome!" he stands, taking the ert of the horder for his own.
[17:01]  Lilith Illyar: (damn chat lag... sorry guys)
[17:01]  Vido Sciarri nods having spent it already "remember i used to be a pirate boy " i say softly for randal only
[17:03]  Lilith Illyar crosses her arms... a smile playing now about her lips... her mind already calculating ten tons of black beans... more valuable than the ship and iron combined. "Yer welcome here fer business anytime. The upstairs is where ye can be sleepin'."
[17:03]  Malcomb Danitz heads out to the door feeling the press of time, and th weight of the coin. "I need to be off to my home now, Lady." He strides out the door with no further formalities.
[17:04]  Front Door: Lilith Illyar is at the door.
[17:04]  Vido Sciarri: we done
[17:05]  Malcomb Danitz: we can TP home from the dock
[17:05]  Malcomb Danitz: (( i need to run, thank you all for a great little RP. ))
[17:05]  Vido Sciarri: well done lads
[17:06]  Randal Gloom: (thanks was fun)
[17:06]  Malcomb Danitz: so
[17:06]  Malcomb Danitz: NC this and take it Asea to get paid for it
[17:06]  Jonas Kozlowski: also thank
[17:06]  Vido Sciarri: be well all back to Venna for me
[17:06]  Malcomb Danitz: or to Ari in Treve.
[17:06]  Malcomb Danitz: i am off
[17:06]  Vido Sciarri: well done jonas

to sumamrize, these logs only show some of the RP.  Upon returning to Treve with my share i ahd to pay off the city and give the banker a cut.  We were all still quite rich.  This was a group effort by many people in four different sims, and it brought traffic and interest to all of them.  But at the same time it was kept small omn purpose, never impacting the lag of a sim.

I plan a few more jobs yet, and i feel this is just what a Trevan raider ought to be doing.

Tal, Everyone!

Question: Does this group operate like raiders?  Or more like collectors of goods for resale/redistribution?  I have to laugh at myself ... the two sound very much the same!  The physicians of Treve have been tossing ideas around regarding interesting and relevant role play to add to the mix of regular every-day life in our city and it was suggested that we ‘discover’ a deficiency of sorts … one that might necessitate the collecting of items to remedy the problem.  With that being said, and after reading this post, I was curious whether or not we could enlist the services of such a group.  Not only would this generate some fun role play, it would give some of us an opportunity to doing something different and outside of our regular duties, if you will.  Kind of touching on what Mord …

Anyway, I’m still trying to figure out the particulars but thought now might be a good time to ask, since this is a new venture.  When I see Betony again (online) or Carter (since he was part of the discussion) I will follow up and post more to the open/general forum.  The 'hidden' Green forum is where we have been chatting about options.

Thanks for any input.  If I am way off, just kick me off the boat.  I’m a damn good swimmer so it’ll be alright.  Wink

Cheers!

I think this is perfect RP for Treve red caste.... Small groups of warriors/mercs.... targetting merchants, trade caravans etc.

We are all after all "Raiders of the Voltai" from the "bandit city of Treve"... it shouldnt always be about attacks on cities or wars.....

Lets just remember.. the spoils need to shared in some manner with the city and citizens

Quote
Vika was a bandit princess, accustomed to be clad in silk and jewels from a thousand looted caravans, to sleep on the richest furs and sup on the most delicate viands, all purloined from galleys, beached and burnt, from the ravished storerooms of outlying, smoking cylinders, from the tables and treasure chests of homes whose men were slain, whose daughters wore the chains of slave girls

The Black Kaiila is made up of persons from all walks as long as they are ruthless  in their pursuit of profit.  It's not just for raiders... I've been obtaining and selling information for years on Gor... and any goods in any many they are appropriated are accepted.  The more creative, the better.

Our main focus is on RP and not combat... in fact, engaging in too much combat and drawing attention to the BK IC is a good way to get booted from the group.  People in our line of work can't afford too much notice.  We recruit the most unscrupulous, imaginative and active emoters that Gor has to offer.

If you want to know more details about the Black Kaiila, read the sticky posting that I've placed on the general post for the BK.
Thanks for your interest.

Starting off with some great replies, so let me get to each in turn.

Mord is high on my list to include in this, and I know he hass experience in this type of activity.

Shyla, very interesting.  We operate jsut like Trevan raiders ought to, taking what we need, and making a profit, as well as supplying the city.  So an RP to go get some needed medical supplies wold fit perfectly

Carter, your larcenous banker nicked me for 1,000 silver as tribute to the city, and also kept a slice for herself, an other great RP, I loved it.  So the city did quite well, thank you.  I am currently arranging selling stolen good to Minus.

This does take a bit of imagination, and i do try to avoid a lot of meter combat.

Just to add something...

The Black Kaiila is separate from what Treve raiders do.  We buy, sell or trade any goods we can get our hands on if we think it will turn a coin.  Goods from the Treve raiders are accepted as they would be from anyone else, but don't get us confused with them.  Also, the Black Kaiila has  a presence throughout Gor, not just in Treve.

And as an aside... because of the nature of the business, we pay no taxes nor homage to any other than perhaps a few spare coins from the "front jobs" that most of us have.

It's great that you have questions... it means you're interested.  Smiley
have a profitable day,
Lilith
