There is no need for any of this.  I can tell you that I for one don't use lists or groups on the sim I'm on and the new BC rules which came out last year don't even mention allowed groups or lists.  Nobody really uses them anymore save for people who don't know any better.  Sounds like you are operating off of an antiquated and outdated approach to this.

I want this Gor rather than a Gor governed by lists and rules that choke the RP life out of everyone.  I want a Gor of mature RP.  I want a Gor of RPers treating other RPers as mature individuals.  I want a Gor free of lists.

Amen Sistah!! Here is a copy of our assassins rules at Hochburg, recently updated.

- Assassins
-Ok we are going try something new here and see if it works out. We do not obligate Black Caste Roleplayers to be trained or aknowedged by any sort of OOC governing group. However, if you come here to hunt we expect you to play the role properly and by the book. A legitimate contract is required without OOC motivation. You will be scrutinized and may be asked by moderators to provide records and logs of this information. If you cannot cooperate or are not willing to do so, then do not hunt here. First and foremost you will be held accountable IC for your actions and if you are not an asshat we will all be fine.

So basically here are your Black Caste rules:

1) no training required...just play the role properly
2) the contract has to be motivated by IC
3) you will be "scrutinized" and might be asked for logs of the hire
4) don't be an asshat

Just do the above and you can play as an Assassin in Hochburg? Do I have it right?

Yes.

No offense, but those rules sound like you wrote them on the back of a cocktail napkin.  They leave a Hell of a lot open for interpretation and don't even cover the basics.  But hey...it's your sim.  (Shrugs) I wish you luck.  You're going to need it.

And with that...I have had enough brain damage for one day.

Some of the best ideas are doodled on the back of cocktail napkins.  Hell, I've seen corporate structures drawn on menus...lmao.

As Aaron Sorkin said once:  “I wrote ‘A Few Good Men’ on cocktail napkins during the first act of La Cage aux Folles . . . I would come home with my pockets stuffed full of cocktail napkins.”

Cocktail napkin away!   Cheesy

Ive been reading all the talk on the assassin caste lately and ive kept quiet for awhile. However, now I wanna throw my 2 cents in the pot.

When I started in SL around a year ago, I brought my character from my previous Gor roleplay where I had played an Assassin for awhile. So I made my avatar in Second Life and thought to continue my rp from the past on a new format. I had been through all the training and what not in HTML Chat Rooms.

So I was a noob avatar with a rich history of rp and whatever. So I was buying my gear, checking out Sim's to travel to and such and met up with a pair of current SL assassins who proceeded to tell me my history didnt mean shit. I would have to be trained here in second life, kept out of other roleplay for a period of three months if not more. Of course, at this point I had met some nice people and found a sim I enjoyed being on so I didnt enjoy the prospect of going somewhere else for a few months and going through another series of training, something I had been through in a previous format.

So what I did was just put my character in disguise as various other roles and continued to play him as an assassin with or without some groups approval.

You know, it really shouldn't be a "Caste-Wide" issue that's debated.  There IS Caste Masters to EACH and every individual sim.  WHY do we need to argue what EVERY other Assassin does?  Was there not a thing that used to be called Role Play?  I don't let anyone tell me how to play Black Caste (I listen to ideas, I have changed myself a couple of times as well even from Assassins who certainly don't like me anymore) and I don't feel like even though I bitch and moan that I should be able to tell anyone how to play it.

What it should be is a  Sim-to-Sim debate of what it is.  Each individual Assassin of each Sim SHOULD work with the Sim Owners to make the best set of rules and reasons to what the Black Caste roleplay IN THAT SIM should be.  That's how I've always done it.  I've went into a sim I played on and I spoke straight with the owners saying I did not want to do the same shit that was being the standard across the board.

So each individual Assassin who is powerful and knowledgable SHOULD be able to work with Sim Owners when it comes to issuing the Sim Black Caste rules (not make them on their own but work together) in coming up in a way that seems right to their style of Black Caste.  Again it is the Assassins of those sims who have to deal with any of the Assassins who come killing so why not let them have influence on their own home?  OOCly everyone is supposed to be friends on their sim, working together to become a greater role play experience so they should be able to find common ground.

For all the other sims that don't have Black Caste, just use the standard of Black Caste role play laws that's going around now.  Why change it, we're all droned into doing the same role play and following the same rules so at least there is some sort of standard no matter what anyone's opinion on it is.  It's all one view of the book which is fairly plausible even though I argue saying it's bad. (It could be worse.)

If an Assassin is trained, untrained, or fake, It should be the own Sim player's choices of how to handle it.  They are the one's that have to deal with it, not the entire Caste.  For the people saying that "1 player hurts the look of the entire Caste" since when?  Hasn't ever happened since I've been playing, usually it's a collaborative effort of fuck ups (which should be respected, people are trying) that cause issues.  I feel if we all personally acknowledge to the own Sim owners that the Black Caste in their sim will be different then the whole but still with the good Black Caste nature intended.

And to respond to main subject point lists are here to make it easier to police.  If there needs to be a list of anything it's the Master Assassins.  Of every individual Assassin?  Yeah it would be cool to see how we are growing and to see the competition, but that's not necessary.  If you get too many students and wanna send them else where a list of just the Master Assassins would be a good thing for that.  But then the sims would start saying "you're not a Master Assassin unless you're on the list." and the fight would spiral all over again, but at least it would be for only a smaller percentage of Assassins then the entire caste.

@Marcus

What you would be considered is a rare situation.  There really is soo many players saying they have the background and are more experienced in it then just Second Life and for the most part they are always lieing.  But then again some of them come to surprise us and achieve greater things then we could of ever expected.  I know one who is referenced to young assassins as informative when really he showed up way back when the same way you did.

It's alright to play it secretive, no matter what anyone says.  However, no Assassin in their right mind is going to defend you or back you as an Assassin because no one knows for sure that you're good enough.  So from there you're at an uphill battle.  Not only do you need to prove yourself to the sims, but when you enter a sim that has an Assassin on it that off the bat doesn't want you there because you didn't train.  So now you're at a competition with the Assassins of the sim to prove you can and are an assassin and that is no easy task.  Especially since the idea that you're not real has been casted on you.  Those who can do this and play as a good Assassin and prove themselves to be self-sufficient the way they are don't need training.  However the majority may fail even due to the OOC shit that will be slung at you and that's not an excuse.  You see how all these forum posts are, player ready to kill other players due to a difference of agreement, you must be strong OOCly and ICly, you must be able to prove your case to a court that is already siding against you.  It's not easy, but it has been done, can be done, and will be done if you're a strong enough player.  If not, you can go around and try to find a Master Assassin that will back you and put his name infront of yours to give you a right of passage to make your own name.  As that is what is a teacher does for his own student so if you gained his trust enough and proved to be a valuable player and a good person maybe he will do so as well.

I have a serious, non bashing, pure curiosity question.  Please read this in whatever tone would make you go all..."Hey. Good question!"

If the list is made for internal BC reasons of training, etc why is it passed out to the general public? What is the purpose of John Q. Public having that list? Is it like a Killer Phonebook so people know who to contact?

I also have a serious, non bashing statement. You can read this with a touch of cynicism.

Poor roleplay etiquette isn't the fault of the list or anyone that makes said list. It's the fault of the person who thinks roleplay entails opening your inventory to make sure the person at your gate isn't pulling a fast one on you. It's as bad as tag and profile reading, listening through walls, and "knowing" things because Suzy Gossiper told you in IMs.

It -would- partially be the fault of the list maker if it's passed out with the intention of being able to catch those pesky impostors and their silly notions of lying in roleplay. But really, in the end, list or not we're all responsible for our own roleplay etiquette and maturity.

It is stated in the notecard that this an OOC tool originally created for sim owners to use (paraprhasing there)  It's not intended to be a list strictly for BC use

You know what totally pisses me off. Bakers that can't cook for shit in real life. We need a Bakers R Us group. Or better, a list of people that can REALLY cook. No wannabe Bakers in MY Gor!

/sarcasm off

Randall: The list I'm talking about is the one passed out through the gor-sl.com in world group. It sounds like it's an OOC list used by (insert group of BC here) that for (pick a reason) gets sent out in a Gor-wide in world group each time it gets updated by (pick a person, cause I never pay attention).

Maria: Thank you.  Smiley  I don't think I've ever kept one but I see them in the group often.
