For the sake of clarityl  Each of the sims mentioned played the same rp game with us.  Came with three or four "thugs" and either left notes in the middle of the night when nobody was around, or shouted it out as the departed the city that if we didn't pay extortion we would be raided into submission.  I made it clear that this was an example of two things...one,  each time the sims in question did this they were running in the 30 k traffic levels against our 10k, and had dozens of active warriors and two that despite our laws being rather clear that we did not wish to subjugate OUR hard working players who wished fervently to develop other roleplay than one that involved eating stones and spitting out grass while being dragged off after being filled with arrows, I would be told how Lame we were, how GE we were, how DISNEY we were, how Gor was dangerous and bla bla bla.

It made no sense from a Gorean perspective and seeing as our hard working people were contributing to the sim, donating for tier and spending their time with us, they got to have a say in how they wanted the rp.  I made it clear in my posts that this type of rp is totally one sided in favour of the sim with dozens of warriors, and that even if we were to prevail in battle and kill them all in our sim, they would be back again 24 hours later as if it was all a bad dream and start the extortion all over again.  If we lost, moreso the case, we would have our sim people who wanted to rp in our sim, instead locked up and bound in a sim that we had no way of matching forces against in mounting a rescue.  It was in a sense a rather interesting way to kill our traffic and enhance theirs.

I can see this being interesting once..maybe twice, but the sims who partook in this did it repeatedly.  And goodness knows we tried to accommodate while attempting to even the playing field with a 30 day kill rule.

We are just trying to do something a bit different.  All of y'all can do the same thing.  You are not obliged to accept our way, and maybe our way will prove to be unworkable in the end, but it is our way and it took a lot of work on my part ooc to get this respected.  I am not saying either that these sims are "bad" or heaven forbid not "BTB" seeing as none of us really have ever agreed on what that latter acronym really means.  I am saying that for US, having OUR rules this way was in response to our vision of how we felt a version of Gor would be played out.

I mention too that for five months we played with the giant conglomerate of Ironhall who had more warriors than I could count, but that we worked together in the background to develop a great storyline wireframe with which to mount RP.  It had a beginning, a middle and an end game.  We liked it.  THey liked it.  It worked well for us, and for others it may not have.  Freedom is a lovely thing.  We are all free to experiment, to try things, to set up cooperative epic storylines and play them out.

Traffic is fickle in Gor.  One day you are on top and one day you are on the bottom.  I hope those on the rise or on the top remember that what goes up goes down and to put themselves in the shoes of a small sim trying to develop their own path, and seeing it thwarted by others' vision of Gor, and insistiting, some even bullying, that it should be the wild west out there because "that is the way Gor was.".   Gor was far more than battle.  The rise of the merchant caste, the most powerful and richest caste in Gor, is a far more interesting story line, one that could well lead to war, or trade embargos, or a hundred other scenarios, but absent that, the day to day commerce of Gor - trade, banking, making goods and offering services, is imho the central theme.

Finally, ideas get expressed.  You can disagree.  You can voice your arguments, but shooting a messenger won't change the message.  Kharas came to us with ideas and enthusiasm.  He presented them to me and I answered him.  I don't post on the forums much because of just this type of vicious reaction.  It is far simpler to say, "I disagree" and list why than to sit and say "I don't like YOU because" and list all your beefs.  Lets kill discourse with rhetoric.  The Ayatollah would be proud.

Regarding Kassau's one attempted raid on your group, I would like to clarify a few things...  The reason you were flagged and tribute was called for...  was because your people were resetting their meters all over the place, continuing combat afterwards, and being generally hostile and uncooperative in the way of interacting with our people.

We thought it best to just make some generalized statement and withdraw as opposed to trying to take captives or such to get a bit more sustained RP out of the encounter...  as that usually only begets drama when you have people resetting meters and such.  Whatever the case, it was a misstep on our part to resort to flagging...  but it was the best we could do to attempt to salvage the situation.

There were missteps on both sides, however...

And Kassau has never had "30k traffic" and I believe we brought 3 men total in that encounter.  Overwhelming odds, I suppose.

I'm sure you know that already but just call a mod when that happen. The fact its one or ours does not make it more acceptable to reset a meter so if you call, I will be glad to be right there kicking asses.  Wink

Yeah, we're just being very cautious when it comes to things like that.  People have gone out of their way to brand us as GE, or pew pew first, etc...  so, we try to just retract peacefully without calling for moderators or anything like that to avoid any further complications or drama.  I think we can all agree that BtB has had enough of that over the years.

It is annoying when sims RP/combat ban one another because someone said something insulting 5 years ago OOC or whatever.

It is sort of funny that we still get accused of being a GE or pew pew sim, though, considering we've had maybe 1 raid in 5 days and continue to build a strong storyline base.  Everyone is so quick to judge these days, and mostly on hearsay.

I believe, and I can't remember, that the raid was called invalid because it had violated our raid rules.  Forgive me if I have the wrong sim here, but if I recall, there was a mod on our side called who determined that and everyone reset meters.  By everyone I mean the 2 men a verr and a small jit monkey that were here at the time...in other words...mostly unarmed and unmetered civilians.  your guys attacked a metal worker, a merchant and someone else who yes were metered but who were not warriors.  Hence I believe ratio was not follwoed.  I was not there, and again i may be wrong.  I named Kassau in that PRIVATE IM that Kharas posted because of that raid asking for tribute.  We had made it clear that we won't do extortion rp for all the reasons I cited earlier.

I do appreciate the fact that you withdrew and didn't call a mod.  At that time and it was some time ago, we were really not a combat raid type sim because we had virtually no warriors..maybe two or three if I recall in total.  We were not seeking raid rp, we were not raiding anyone.  It was several months ago when Clearchus was around that this got really silly and it was why we changed our rules to try to prevent the repeated daily raids there being threatened on us if we didn't "pay up."  They came on several occasions and walked around bullying unarmed people and shouting their extortion message all over the sim.  It then happened a couple of times with another sim which is still around and I won't name (again) and so it really became annoying.

Please everyone I mean no offense of other sims.  Kassau guys did do it once and we asked that it be stopped and it was respected.  It took us a bit longer with a bit more yelling and fist shaking to get Clearchus to back off.  I maintain the rp should be fun for both sides even if one side is losing.  There was zero fun in being extorted, the story could go nowhere, and we were in no position to retaliate or raid them.  That is the point here and nothing more.
